Sierra Homebirth

From my first consultation with Sierra Homebirth, I knew Jessica was the midwife I wanted on my birth team. She spoke with clarity and the conviction of experience as I asked her question after question. I wanted a homebirth, but needed to process my own fears around it. My intuition was that Jessica had a fierceness about her. I sensed that if complications were to arise, she would not only have my back, but the skill to ensure the safety of me and Baby. She did.When my active labor stalled, she expertly guided me through exercises which brought about the imminent, natural, and safe arrival of Baby. I did face complications post-birth which necessitated a transfer. Jessica was my fierce advocate through the whole process.I am a huge fan of the midwifery model and am so grateful that I had Jessica and Stefania by my side. I have so much respect for them and the work they do in this world. I truly feel Sierra Homebirth is a gift to the community.

Jessica and Melanya exceeded our expectations for midwives in every way possible. They took me on halfway through my pregnancy (when I decided a hospital birth just wasnt for me) and immediately made me feel as if Id been with them the entire time. Not only were they knowledgeable, professional, and looking out for the best interests of both baby and myself in a medical sense, but they consistently nurtured a space for my husband and I where we could both share our fears and hopes for the birth and parenting in general and receive invaluable advice on so many more things than I even knew could be discussed with midwives. They were a phenomenal support for both of us during my 21 hours of labor, always attentive, aware, and anticipating each detail and need. That support extended far beyond just the birth, and they responded beautifully to other baby-related medical issues I had postpartum. Nine months later, I can say I consider these women to be my friends, and Id absolutely recommend them to any new or repeat parents a hundred times over.

Jessica and Melanya are amazing. We had our second and third children with them and I would recommend Sierra Homebirth to anyone. In the sessions we had before the birth they always created a calm and comforting environment where my wife and I were able to ask any questions we had.In the births themselves they knew exactly what to do and ensured that everything went smoothly. They provided support for the birth itself and also supported my wife and I emotionally though the entire process - they were amazing.After my oldest son was born he had to spend some time at the NICU. It was very hard for my wife and I, but we were in constant contact with the midwives through the entire ordeal and they even came to see me at the hospital for moral support.I cant recommend Sierra Homebirth enough. Jessica and Melanya are friends of ours to this day and we are very lucky to have met them.

Professional and Personalized Care. I am so glad we chose to have a home birth with Sierra Homebirth. It was the most beautiful time of my life. They were able to provide critical information and allowed us to make informed decisions for our new family. As the father, I felt that they took great care of Mama and really included me and answered any questions I had. They provided a lot of extra information and suggested reading based on my inquiries. They even let me help catch our baby! I cant thank them enough for facilitating the most beautiful moment of my life! Birth is magnificent but can be a bit scary. Sierra Homebirth really helped demystify and smooth it out so we were as comfortable and confident as possible. They provided great postpartum care as well. Jessica, Melanya, & Abbie are amazing!They walked me through everything I needed to know at every step, listened to and respected my wishes, and were very supportive, knowledgeable, and loving at the birth without being overbearing or intrusive.My husband was me throughout the birth, physically supporting me when needed and working with the midwives to ensure things were cared for so that I could remain fully present within the birthing space.With their assistance I was able to experience the birth I had wanted for my first son ~ at home, in the water, pulling my child out from the water to welcome him into his new loving family within our own sacred space. I am so very grateful to these wonderful women!!

Jessica is not only my midwifery partner but also I chose her to help bring my two boys earth side. Each had a complication at the end necessitating a quicker delivery. Her firm yet calm direction allowed me to complete the birth with strength and confidence. She lovingly and professionally included my husband when he joined our prenatal visits as he and I decided how many visits he would come to and the role he would play as my main support person. During the birth she helped guide him when needed and gave us space to move through some deep parts of my labor and was there when I needed her. I really enjoyed her maternal energy despite how much fun we have together in and out of the office. Jessicas professionalism and intuition is also top notch as is her patience. Did I mention my first labor was over 24 hours! Thank you for being a stellar midwife partner and the midwife for Enzo and Asa forever.

We had a great experience with Sierra Home Birth. Birthing at home is intimate and transformational. Its not just the birth that you need to consider when choosing a birth team. Its a long journey that includes prenatal and postpartum appointments. Jessica and Malanya bring experience, confidence and authenticity to their practice. We felt comfortable and supported, whether we were calling at 3:30am to let them know the baby was on the way or texting with a question about breastfeeding a week after the birth. They were focused and helped keep me grounded during the birth. If you are considering them, dont delay! Their client slots for each month fill up! Im really glad they were able to be our support for this special life experience.

My experience of Sierra Homebirth was wonderful. It was everything that I needed in terms of support; knowledge and expertise in all prenatal care, patience, caring listening, experience as mothers themselves. Alongside all of the necessary prenatal supervision I appreciated being heard and when things got interesting (my body was not initiating labor on the expected timeline), they were solidly there to support and try everything possible. I ended up birthing at the hospital, but was able to birth in essentially the way I had wanted to at home and Im not sure I would have had the strength to really go for what I wanted without the added help of Melanya being there for me so solidly. She helped my husband and I together to reposition our baby during labor as she wasnt descending in the way we would expect. It made such a difference and now that it is all over, I cant imagine it being any other way! So, 5 stars from this 42 yr. old 2nd time (after 17 yrs.) mom who had multiple unexpected issues that needed addressing over the course of the pregnancy and birth. We are all so grateful for the loving & effective care.

My husband and I chose Sierra Homebirth for the birth of our first child in September 2017. Jessica and Melanya were absolutely amazing! The appointments were great, night and day difference from my OB I originally had. They were always just a phone call or a text away when this first time mom was having her freak out moments. When I came time for our little man to actually arrive they answered our calls and drove over in the middle of the night with smiles and assurance. I cried at our final post-partum appointment because I was going to miss these beautiful ladies so much.They will be my first phone call after my husband next time I see a plus sign!!

The only way to give birth!! These ladies are amazing!! My husband and I had one hospital birth and one home birth. The hospital birth was due to our previous baby having multiple medical complications. When we met Jessica and Melanya we knew we were in good hands for our second birth. They went above and beyond what any ob or medical professional had done for us prior. They set us up and supported all the proper prenatal testing, gave us so much more education and support than the standard medical system every did. Every prenatal visit we spent at least an hour in their loving and supportive environment, answering all our questions and educating us how to do our best each step of the way. From the simple gestures of tea and hugs during our prenatal visits, to step by step reading materials based on our decisions and choices. They always listened and supported our decisions never pushing any of their views or opinions on us, giving us the facts and support we needed- so different from the medical system. They came to our home and even included our dog in the pre-birth setup as well as helping us prepare our home. During our pregnancy we had anxieties and concerns which even outside of appointments Melanya and Jessica made themselves available to give us the support we needed. When that magical time came and we went into labor they were there, monitoring our baby and me to make sure we remained safe, giving me and my husband just the right words of encouragement and physical support. After care after birth was just as amazing and more, they had all the right tools to care for me and baby, they spent so much time and made the whole experience enjoyable, caring about each detail, and making sure we felt confident and comfortable with our postnatal care. Breastfeeding became a bit of a challenge for me and they even made themselves available via facetime to support me and remind me the proper techniques on the same day they had already been at my home. They know and understand this process, there is so much love, skill, and more than I can express in words that these ladies provide. They are amazing and so special! I will recommend them to all and any of my friends, family and and woman in this community.

I received excellent pre-natal, birthing and postpartum services from Sierra Homebirth! I felt well cared for all around, and especially during the birth and during the follow-up visits! Both Jessica and Maylana were supportive, present and very wise. I am deeply grateful for their support before, during and after the birth of my son.

I love midwife Jessica! 😍 She is truly passionate about midwifery and about serving the Grass Valley community. She is an incredible person with so much love and compassion. 🤗

Jessica and melanya are both amazing people and amazing at what they do. Thay where both very kind compassionate and professional. I couldnt have asked for a more beautiful and amazing birth as we had with the help of them. Me as a dad felt especially appreciated and that both Jessica and melanya helped me feel prepared and appreciated thru the whole experience start to finish. My husband and I had an amazing experience with our birth with the midwives from Sierra home birth. They supported me, my husband, and toddler all thru the transistion of brining another life into our family. These woman go above and beyond to be compassionate and so supportive. I never could thank them enough for helping me have the second home birth I wanted to have even tho my pregnancy lasted right up to 42 weeks. Highly recommend this midwife practice to anyone in the area looking to have an exceptional home birth experience.

I am so appreciative of Jessica, Melanya and Abby for their care, thought and professionalism. My wife and I were treated fairly, had multiple opportunities for education and understanding and ultimately had a successful home birth. Jessicas care and honest enjoyment of her job is evident as she assisted in 4 other births the same week as ours and still offered my wife and I the assistance we needed to bring our child into this world without fear or injury. During our preparatory visits we put our concerns on the table often debating issues that were challenging for us to work through as a couple. Melanya and Jessica offer an unbiased perspective and education to guide us without leaning one way or the other. I even had some significant challenges when a family member passed only weeks from our due date. I was overwhelmed in my concern and emotional trauma but in a phone call Melanya was able to talk me to a place of understanding and even offered a follow-up call to be sure I was ok. There are few things that will challenge your marriage like pregnancy and birth, having an experienced team to support you and facilitate educated choice is a great relief. If I could do it again, I would do nothing differently and gladly choose Sierra Home Birth as our midwives.

My own personal Charlies Angels! Melanya, Jessica, and Summer where amazing supports. Each one came with there own super power. From Melanya holding great space and telling me jokes when I needed, Jessica leading me into mantras during the final faze of labor, and finally Summer holding me up like a solid tree while I was activley pushing. Theses ladies know what they are doing and show up with you during pregnacy, labor, and post with devoted, love, care, and attention. Please include them in your birth!

I cannot recommend them enough. Everything you could want in midwives. I think of them as the Three Wise Women who attend birth.
