Lena Speck Hopkins, MD PA

I think if you read the negative reviews on this doctor, youll see a lot of issues with the office staff and appointments. I will book an appointment about 4 months in advance because its the only availability and will base my vacations and days off work on that appointment only for it to be canceled without notification. I have to call before appointments because I live in Mcallen and have to drive an hour to get to the office. Once I actually drove out there only to find out my appointment was canceled. Then they make appointments without my consent and charge me fees for not showing up. I also have been told that during an annual I cannot ask the doctor any questions because then my appointment will be charged different and will have to be rescheduled. So I guess this is a doctor that wont take 10 minutes to talk to her patients, according to the office staff. After years of this, I finally am giving up. There needs to be a serious revamp of the staff.

The staff and Dr Speck were awesome!!! Never felt comfortable with a Dr. Before but she was amazing quick to explain everything to me and would personally respond to my questions in the messaging portal they have set up🥰 yes at times it took a while but understandable she had allot of patients definitely see why now👏THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. YOU AND YOUR STAFF KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING🫶 God Bless you each♥

The ladies there at Lena Speck, Hopkins are great. Very communicative and the fact that there was a cause for concern on my part, I was immediately scheduled an appointment the same day. Customer service is great, the doctors there are great, and they care. I wish Dr. Speck Hopkins still worked with pregnant women and delivery, Im sad because I dont want to go to another doctor for my next pregnancy. All in all, great work environment.

Dr. Speck-Hopkins is incredible! Excellent treatment during my first exam with her. She explained everything to me in a very clear manner. She was also kind and friendly. I especially loved how Dr. Speck Hopkins really took her time to explain my conditions with me as well as potential treatment options. All of the staff was great – they were helpful, patient with very, very little wait time. I would highly recommending Dr. Speck Hopkins to friendly and friends.

If I could rate this doctor and office zero stars, I would. They lack empathy and focus more on their cosmetic practice. I had the worst experience with Dr. Speck and her staff. I received concerning results from blood work and no one called to inform me. I had to find out the results on my own almost two days later via email. When I let Dr. Speck know that I wasn’t notified by anyone about my results all she had to say was “okay, okay.” For every office visit with Dr. Speck, I had to pay a co-payment even if I was only there to receive results from my sonogram and MRI. I’ve heard that other offices do not charge you just to go over results. After receiving my worrisome blood test results, I was not made a priority. My MRI was scheduled about two weeks away which AGAIN no one informed me of my appointment date. I had to call and find out on my own. When I got to Harlingen Medical for my MRI, they informed me that Dr. Speck’s office never sent the orders. After my MRI, I requested to be referred to Dr. Levine (a gynecological oncologist) at DHR, and Dr. Speck was unprofessional stating she didn’t like Dr. Levine because she had a bad attitude. When I was finally “referred” to Dr. Levine, Dr. Speck’s staff sent a cover letter with only my name and DOB (with no medical records). All they did was waste my time and add stress to an already stressful situation. To top it off, Dr. Speck sent me a certified letter “terminating patient-physician relationship.” Trust me I had no intention of ever going back there. I DO NOT recommend this doctor. Save your time and money and find a doctor who genuinely cares about your health.

Dr. Speck-Hopkins has trained a really wonderful staff. Very professional and comfortable atmosphere! All of the employees are friendly, and the office is efficient. They respect your time. They are helpful & ready to answer any questions you may have. Dr. Speck-Hopkins is thorough and knowledgeable. She’s very easy to talk to throughout your appointment. I’m very happy to be a patient at this establishment.

I like Dr. Lena a lot! But her office staff is terrible! I hope, Dr.Speck will read this review. I had to call to her office many times during the week before my surgery until they finally sent my orders to the hospital for surgery that was scheduled for Monday. I went for my pre-op to the hospital but the hospital didn’t have my orders! They finally sent it on Friday! Now I’m sitting and waiting for them to re- send properly written order for my mammogram! They sent incorrectly written order! After this review I was rejected to visit this doctor. Unbelievable experience.

Good appt times, semi-flexible schedule. The girls in the front & nurses (techs?) are always so nice. Clean inside. Ms. Lena Speck is easy and kind to talk to and makes the experience less scary. Cuz we all know sometimes the gyno isnt the most fun! I definitely recommend this place to any gals out there debating where to go. They also take Ambetter which is good.

My visits to Dr. Speck Hopkins are always pleasant! The staff is very friendly from the warm welcome provided by Ms. Rita, to the nurses, and finally with Nurse Claire and Dr. Speck Hopkins!! I recently had a hysterectomy done and can’t thank Dr. Speck for her warm consideration and patience through the entire process! This is a very emotional and difficult procedure, I am glad I was under the hands and care of Dr. Speck.

I saw Dr Lena Speck Hopkins & Claire throughout my High Risk Pregnancy. I was well taken care of from beginning to end. The staff is great! Nice, friendly and very helpful. All of my questions and concerns were addressed and answered by either the providers or nurses at each visit. They would return my calls within an acceptable timeframe. Follow up calls were made to me when I would go to the ER. Overall Ive had a great experience, I really cant thank them enough for taking such great care of us! :)

Dr. Speck Hopkins is amazing I officially met her for the first time because I needed to have a procedure done she was so nice and funny kept conversation with me until procedure began and even walked along side as they wheeled me to the room. I was nervous the whole time and her and my nurse Pricilla made the experience so much better. I am very grateful for them and the staff at office for being so amazing through this difficult time.

I was a patient of Dr. George Speck. He was amazing and his staff was amazing. So when he retired I decided to stay on as a patient of Dr. Lena Speck Hopkins. I expected to receive the same level of service. Wrong!! Her staff is the worst I have ever dealt with. They are rude and unprofessional. The nurse takes days to return phone calls. They fail to send prescriptions to the pharmacy in a timely manner. I was constantly having to call the office to remind them to send the prescriptions. Dr. Lena Speck Hopkins is a good doctor but unfortunately not worth having to deal with her staff. I will never recommend this office to anyone.

Dr Lena Speck Hopkins is always very gentle, sympathetic and really spends time listening and evaluating you during the visit. She is quick but thorough and always answers questions and does not talk down to you. She is respectful and careful to explain so you can understand.

Great customer service and patient care. The office staff, were very respectful, courteous and professional. The office waiting area is very comfortable and has a pleasant atmosphere. The nurses and front desk staff make you feel welcome and well informed. Doctor Hopkins, explained the procedure in terms that I could understand and made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure.

Dr. Speck and her staff were amazing! From the moment you walk in, and see a “Feel free to remove your mask, we’d love to see your face” (or something to that effect), until you chat with a sweet lady telling you about all the amazing services they provide before you leave the office…. you feel totally welcomed and comfortable!

If I could leave Zero stars I would. The staff would not work with my wife’s medical needs. All she needed was a Dr’s authorization for a medication that she needs. The office said that they did not have time to do that and I would have to call my insurance for a different medication. My insurance does cover the medication and only needed a Dr approval. Again they stated that they would not do it because it is time consuming. They said if I was dissatisfied with their service that I was more than welcome to go to another Dr. From our experience it seems that they have lost touch of why they are a medical practice and do not genuinely care for their patients needs, instead they are more concerned with the cosmetic stuff that they offer and the money that comes in.

Going to a new gynecologist is always nerve wracking but Dr. Speck Hopkins and her phenomenal team made me feel so welcome and cared for. I would definitely recommend you visit this doctor and her team!

So Sadden that Dr. Speck will no longer deliver babies .....shes delivered my last 3 babies and it has been wonderful having her as my OB/GYN. She has a way of making you feel comfortable to talk to, I absolutely love her!! Special thanks to APRN Claire Acevedo she is the sweetest and always takes the time to answer every question I have. Other doctors Ive been to usually seem like theyre in A rush but the staff at Dr. Specks office always take theyre time and do make office visits feel special. I highly recommend Dr speck and her staff !!

Dr. Hopkins had delivered both of my babies and has taken care of me before I had babies. She and Claire are amazing and truly care about their patients. The staff are all friendly and are quick to take care of anything that is needed. I am so sad that she isn’t delivering babies anymore but I plan to take advantage of her med spa services.

Dr Hopkins, Claire and her team are amazing! They are so welcoming. They genuinely care about their patients and actually explain everything to you. I couldn’t have found a better doctor.

Dr. Speck is not only a physician, she is a very caring person as well. She makes you feel as though she is also your friend. I have been seeing her as a gynecologist, esthetician, and pallet therapist for at least 10 years. I highly recommend you meet her. She is, in addition, radiant and fun to talk to about your intimate care.

Dr. Speck was very professional and reassuring. She answered all my questions. Loved that she had me sign up for the patient portal and provided me with lab results through the portal versus having go back to the office and pay another copay.

I have been a patient of Dr. Speck Hopkins for 5 years now including the delivery of my two sons and removal of precancerous spot. I am now pregnant for the third time. I recommend Dr. Speck to all of my friends and have had a wonderful experience with her. As an anxious person, I feel that Dr. Speck helps me to feel calm and answers all of my questions.

Having a female gynecologist was the best experience I had. To be able to speak to some one about personnel issues and having her understand my concerns made me extremely content with going to her office. I saw Dr Hopkins for my last two pregnancies and both experiences were great. She’s easy to talk to and she makes you feel comfortable at all times. Cant thank her enough for delivering two of my babies.

Dr. Hopkins was very kind at 1st meeting. Tyler is also very kind, the lady who did my sonogram was always very nice. The front desk staff is another story. They belittled me due to my employment. There was 0 compassion or understanding, she made comments against me, thinking the line had disconnected. They told me I could not select my own vitamins. They lost my paperwork, rescheduled my labs, didnt call in my prescription, I was hung up on, or they dont answer the phone. Charged me but have not reported what I have paid towards my deductible. They treat patients as if we are a bother to them. I was excited to work with Dr. Speck now I am discouraged

This was my doctor for the past 3 years and I was very happy with her services, that is until I found out I was pregnant. I called to make an appointment and the receptionist told me to find another doctor that Dr. Speck would not see me anymore and hung up. I was so excited and had spoke with Dr. Speck about my worries and issues I had that would keep me from getting pregnant on my last visit with her and Now that I am pregnant I am so disappointed that they just told me no and turned me away.

Lena Speck Hopkins, MD is incredible. Not only has she taken care of my health concerns, but she is also lovely to speak with. I felt listened to. I am extremely pleased at the reduction in time by not commuting to the upper valley, but rather receive self care services locally. What a world of a difference!! Staff is always courteous. Dr.speck is an amazing dr. She is patient and have had her for many years. My belief is any doctor should take a few minutes and listen to concerns. Although I have felt many times embarrassed thinking my question might be dumb dr Speck actually doesn’t make you feel that way.

I have been a patient for a few years and Ive been seen by both Dr. Speck-Hopkins and PA Acevedo, and I love working with both. In addition if you need some skin care products, the Alastin line is TOP NOTCH. The aesthetic services are great as well. Vanessa is super sweet and helpful and can help you get taken care of! :)

I highly recommend Dr. Hopkins.She has an impeccable passion and knowledge for her practice. She also has an amazing staff, very caring and supportive.I recently moved here from the Austin area and she was referred to me by several of her clients. I have been extremely impressed with her expertise in the fields she specializes in.

I am very upset with this office....they have been confirming my appointment since February 3rd via text and then also confirmed my appointment a day before. I was almost out the door for my appointment February 10th when they called to abruptly cancel because the PA had called in sick and the doctor was in labor. More than anything it’s the lack of professional etiquette , whoever the lady was that answered the phone was very rude and very “ I don’t know what else you want me to do”.... be compassionate for your patients ESPECIALLY when they don’t feel well. I requested time off from work specifically for this appointment, for it to be abruptly cancelled. I will not be returning or recommending this office to anyone.

Dr. Speck is the best! Thorough and kind. Always willing to take the time to explain and explore options. Yearly exams are thorough but quick. No time wasted in cold exam rooms. Would recommend this practice to anyone.

I’m now going on 19 weeks pregnant and have been going to Dr Specks office since I was 8 weeks. I was scheduled to have my anatomy scan tomorrow which I was really looking forward to and received a call a little while ago that the Dr is no longer taking my insurance. So I ask the receptionist what does that mean for my appointment tomorrow and she said we’re going to have to cancel it and I am going to have to find a new doctor. As a first time Mother it was very disappointing and unprofessional to tell me the day before my appointment that it’s canceled and not even make any recommendations or have any type of empathy especially in a situation like this with COVID-19 happening. And to top it off I still haven’t even met the Dr. I’ve only been seen by the nurse practitioner. I chose her office because I heard good things about her and her dad was my moms doctor but I will never recommend Dr. Lena Speck Hopkins to anyone.

Dr. Seck Hopkins has been my doctor for over 14 years now. She and her staff have taken wonderful care of me throughout the years. The office is beautiful and the staff is knowledgeable and kind.

Dr speck is always so helpful and always available to answer any questions I had throughout my pregnancy. Also super helpful after with my options for birth control after my pregnancy and just a very nice person.

First new patient visit since relocating from San Antonio ... efficient check in process and minimal wait time. Practice encourages use of patient portal for requests and other communication; I love this! Looking forward to building a relationship with the staff for years to come.

I was worried about having my baby down here in the valley., I wasnt wrong. I felt like a number down here. Her office looks nice and I was tired of looking for a good dr, as the previous dr I was seeing, wasnt in network anymore. After my second visit, I left due to rude front staff and not feeling a connection with the dr. I gave her a second chance hoping shed warm up to me but no. When I voiced my concerns to her about high percentage of c-section here in the valley and I was afraid, her response was well see if your baby behaves. Like Really?! Nice looking office but looks arent everything.. sad Drs here in the valley treat patients like theyre all on free healthcare. I have insurance! They dont take care of medical records transfer either, wouldnt see me until I brought my records and that was me in tears my first visit. When I did see dr Lena speck, it felt rushed, and I also had to ask her for genetic test! Like really?! she has similar reviews on other sites so I know Im not overreacting. Glad to know others have experienced the same here, unfortunately.

Do not give them your time or business. Front office staff is incompetent and are very rude and also went as far as disclosing private information about myself to another individual. Dr. Speck is not there to get to know the patient and explain thoroughly, so if your looking for that go elsewhere.

Even a one star is too much of a rating for this place. This is the worst! I mean THE WORST clinic i have been to for my first pregnancy I should have just stuck to my previous clinic. The staff is very rude and unprofessional. Dr. Infante has not made me feel like I have been taken care of in terms of giving me the best prenatal care. Very disappointed. I came to this clinic with high hopes because of the good ratings, but from what I can see now there’s a trend for this clinic and bad patient care. If you want to come here all I have to say is DON’T you’ll be disappointed.

Horrible customer service. Office staff is so RUDE! No compassion for their patients. I was floored at how the receptionist spoke to me on the phone. I truly wonder if they speak that way to the patients in front of the doctors. If I knew the name of the woman I spoke with on the phone, I would definitely put her on blast. Two thumbs down!

I have been going to lena since I moved to the valley 15 years ago, she delivered my twins and daughter. She is one very intelligent amazing doctor and I wouldnt recommend anyone else. She answers all my questions, helps with anything I need and is very friendly.
