I want to share my disappointment with a recent experience at a medical practice. I initially chose this place because they had a black OBGYN. However, during my appointment today, they turned me away due to an unpaid balance that Ive been asking them to resubmit to my insurance. Despite driving 40 minutes to get there, they refused to see me. The OB doctor herself advised me to schedule the appointment for managing my medical diagnosis through their patient portal, even though she was aware of theTherefore, I am highly upset and disappointed because I am going to have to leave this practice because I see that this practice cares more about financial gain than the actual care of their patients I did what I was supposed to do. I contacted my insurance I contacted their billing department. I told them to resubmit the payment. They are going to tell me that they did that back in December. I recently contacted them sometime in May because they sent me a notice saying that they were going to send the bill to collection then I did not hear from them again so I assumed that the situation was handled. However, once I got to the appointment, they turned me away for an appointment, they they said I needed!!!Also the girl at the front office told me that the person that made my appointment no longer work there and that it wasn’t my fault because I did my part!!! Which I did!! ….This experience has shown me that this practice prioritizes finances over patient care. I regret to say that I cannot recommend this practice to anyone. Despite the rarity of black OBGYNs, I had hoped to establish a connection here. However, given the circumstances, I have no plans to return..

This group bought or merged with the practice I loved without my knowledge. I won’t go back. They have started charging Medicare patients a large out of pocket fee for services not received or wanted. I made sure with the practice & the doctor that all I wanted was what Medicare paid but was billed anyway. Billing bumped it to Central Office without success. I’m not giving up. This is so wrong.

They’re dropping BCBS. They send emails saying BCBS is dropping them - but why did the same thing happen 5 years ago? They don’t care about their patients, they just care about the money their insurance is going to pay them. All of their practices are going to discontinue it & in a few months they will come to “an agreement” & they cycle will repeat. You want us to call and beg for you? Why don’t we just go find other providers who put their patients first… who don’t cancel their ultrasound appointments last minute & then are “all booked up” when it comes to rescheduling.

This review is in reference to the Newport News Branch. What is your customer service person speaking like a robot ? She repeated “ I will have the scheduler contact you tomorrow “ three times as though I am a deaf person and cannot understand her. What a rude and hostile behavior for asking the most basic question about cancellation policy. If customer service people don’t even have basic information then why call them customer service. And please create a proper database of your patients so that you can pull them up based on phone number. Try spelling out your name when you are Indian in the US , its a nightmare! Easier systems are now available please use them!

The receptionist or whoever answers the phone is rude and unhelpful. I had been a patient of Theresa Whibley for close to 35 years but since I hadn’t been in recently I was told that I would have to be scheduled as a new patient and since I was now on Medicare she said she wasn’t sure I could come back. My oldest daughter was also a patient and when she went in to see Dr. Whibley she explained the situation to her and she immediately went to the front desk and scheduled an appointment. The receptionist told her that they had tried to call me but when I checked to see what number they had, they had a number that was used back in 2005 when I first moved back into the area. I had given them my cell which I’ve had since 2006 but obviously whoever is in charge of updating patient contact information never did this. I know I had given my correct information but perhaps when Dr. Whibley joined this group and the patient information got transferred, it didn’t come in directly. Terry and I are friends and she took care of /delivered my last two daughters. Now that she has retired (well deserved) and I have to start all over again with someone new, I’m not sure if I have future problems that they will be addressed in a timely manner. Terry is the reason I followed her from her previous office to this new one. Having worked as a receptionist in a medical practice there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for people being treated in such a rude manner when trying to make appointments to get health care. Also it was very apparent that people on Medicare (although I have supplemental insurance are not welcomed in this practice. This unprofessional treatment of people by the front desk personnel needs to be addressed and fixed immediately! I’m dismayed by the number of people who have had a similar or even worse experience than I did. You are building a very negative reputation in this area.

Poor customer service. Received an email my appointment was cancelled. Unable to reach them on 2 seperate occasions/days and there was no option to leave a voice-mail. I finally reached them, but was told a new appt would be 2-3 months out. I already waited 2 months for the appt that THEY cancelled. I brought this up and there was no solution offered. I asked them about not answering the phone, said they were short staffed. Called my doctor for a new referral. I would not want to go to an office that doesnt answer their phone, cancells your appts and does not offer a more convenient one, and is short staffed.

On Monday 6/27/22 I tried calling to become a new patient, the lady who answered the phone hung up on me 2xs before I could actually speak, so on the 3rd time I called to schedule an appointment she told me she would transfer me to the appointment line where I would leave a VM and someone would contact me within 48 hours. I politely declined and let her know I didn’t want to do that. She said “good, now don’t call back here nomore” and hung up on me. I called back & asked for her name, she hung up on me again. I call back to ask for a supervisor she hung up again. I called back she told me that her supervisor isn’t available at the moment, so I asked to be transferred to her supervisor vm, she hung up again. This is not a place I would like to be seen at and would not recommend anyone to go here!! I see why they have horrible ratings. This office is distasteful to even have someone like her welcoming patients. This is really a 0 star rating!!!!

Even though the practice is busy, I can rely on responses to my phone or patient portal questions. The physician personally sends a note for each lab report. I feel well respected, welcomed, and cared for as a patient and a person. The physician knows me and my family situation and cares.

I can’t say enough about how amazing this practice is. The front desk gals are so nice and the three doctors I have met have all been amazing! I had a painful issue and they got me in the next day. Can’t recommend them enough!

Although most of the staff and some of the doctors can be great, the management of this group is HORRIBLE!!! Management takes a my way or the high way approach. If you want to feel like YOU are the customer, this is not the place. Stay away. Far, far away
