I cant tell you how much I loved my delivery experience at the Midwife Center. Capable, empowering, encouraging women surrounding me while I gave birth. Never felt like I was just a number because each person takes the time (and has the time! Lets be honest, hospitals are just bigger and whether nurses would like to or not, there isnt the same ability to stop for the one) From all of my appointments to follow-up care, my experience was great! The facility is wonderful too - having a tub to labor in (and deliver in if you can/want to) was wonderful. I really loved the ethos of the center and felt completely at peace through the journey of giving birth.

I cannot say enough good things about TMC! If I could give six stars, I would. Ive had the privilege of birthing three children there within the last few years, and my experience each time has been absolutely wonderful! The midwives and nurses are all extremely knowledgeable, skilled, caring, and kind. It is clear that they care deeply about the work they do and the women and families they serve. My appointments never felt rushed, and the staff always took time to answer my questions thoroughly and kindly, without making me feel like any of my concerns were silly or strange. If I had questions later, I could call or message them and always got a prompt response. When laboring there, each time I felt extremely well supported, and the midwives and nurses gave me the attention I needed (so encouraging, helpful, and gentle!) while also giving me the space and time I needed to labor naturally. With their help, I was able to have three wonderful, natural, unmedicated births. If youre looking for a place to have a natural birth, I cannot recommend TMC enough! The facility itself is extremely clean and comfortable (you dont feel like youre in a regular doctors office, which is nice!). The birthing rooms feel like bedrooms, but with all the medical tools and resources you need for birthing (including tubs for laboring or for water births). They also offer lots of resources and classes for before and after birth, and their lactation consultants are fabulous. Thanks for the amazing work you do, staff of TMC!

My experience at The Midwife Center truly changed my outlook on healthcare and has set the standard for what services and treatment women deserve. The Midwife Center offers pain management and plenty of support for the IUD process - services that I never knew were even an option. Ill be happily returning for annual visits and any other services I might need in the future.

I wanted to love this place and the people. The total opposite happened. It was my first child so I was very nervous and very excited. My first appointment, my midwife showed up late and in her socks and was checking the clock constantly while I would be speaking to her. The second appointment was okay.. more normal. And my third the lady was super rude to me and by this point I had enough (I will not disclose names). I decided the peaceful water birth I so desperately wanted to have was out the window. I moved to Magee Midwives’s where I was treated with respect and care. Glad I switched when I did.

Coming as someone who didnt start care with the midwife center until after 20 weeks pregnant, I 100% felt the 180 flip in my care during pregnancy. I was recently told, and I think this applies to the midwife center: its one thing to have a doctor to let you make your own choices, its another to have a medical staff who is a resource to you in your choices. My dream was always to have a natural birth and the OBGYN said they were going to allow that to happen, but once I switched to the midwife center, I felt I was leaving appointments with more information on best practices of birthing naturally. The office is very well decorated, inviting and homey. The staff was very friendly, respectful, and informative. I really appreciated all the classes and additional support offered both before and after birth! I am so grateful to all the staff who assisted myself and family during labor. It was the most peaceful, joyful, empowering experience of my life and that says alot in todays society! I felt I had very competent caring people surrounding me, helping me to make choices throughout the process. The part I struggled with most postpartum as a first time mom was breastfeeding and I was so grateful for the lactation calls and appointment! Hormones may have played a role :P, but I cried tears of joy for how grateful I was for the midwife centers care for me. I cant say I have another birthing experience of my own to compare it to, but I know I plan to have my next birth with the midwives again.

Amazing care and support from staff! Really treated me like a person and not a number. All treatment was on my time and never felt rushed or forced/coerced. Really listened and worked with me and my partner to help prepare for and deliver our newest addition to our family. Thorough in care/explanation of treatment, staff always walked me through what was going on and kept me informed. Helped us have the birth experience we were hoping for. Would highly recommend!

The midwives, nurses, and staff at TMC are all wonderful. They treat people like people instead of patients. My husband, my son, and I all appreciate the care and support we received throughout my pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We have now added a healthy baby girl to our family who came into this world in an environment that supported her needs in a holistic way. I want to give a special shout out to Emily, the midwife who delivered our baby girl. She made me feel safe throughout my labor and delivery and was very considerate of my needs. Thank you for your excellent care, Emily!

TMC has my heart forever. I birthed all three of my children under their care (one back during mercy days, one at the old facility and one in the new digs). My last baby was even born at the height of the pandemic. Honestly cannot say enough about this place and these people. After each of my babies I actually felt sadness at my 6 week check up bc it was over. I truly trust these women and believe whole heartedly that they CARE about the families they serve. I feel so thankful that Pittsburgh has such an amazing facility for birthing people. I had such empowering experiences with them that I felt pulled to also get into birth work and am now a doula and birth photographer. I have the unique opportunity to see inside lots of different birth spaces in this role and I can say without a doubt that TMC is is just, special. I never hesitate in recommending them to my own clients and its a great joy when I have the opportunity to work along side TMC midwives and nurses. #1 TMC fan girl. Also 100% worth noting-best cheesy scrambled eggs in the city hands down.

I have given birth here for both of my children, both experiences were wonderful and I would not go anywhere else. All the midwives are supportive and want the best experience for you. They are quick to respond if there is an issue and I never felt unsafe during my pregnancies and labors. The front office staff and phlebotomist are also all very friendly and helpful. I loved my time with Juls for mental health support both during my pregnancy and postpartum. I know the midwife center isn’t for everybody however if you are looking for an alternative to hospital births, this is a great place to check out!

Cannot recommend TMC highly enough! I had my prenatal care as well as labor and delivery and postpartum care through TMC in 2022-23 with my second baby. Every appointment left me feeling calm, confident, and like I was supported. I also did a birth refresher course, which was perfect for a second time mom. My entire care team was attentive, positive, and very in tune with me during my labor and delivery. Through The Midwife Center, I received prenatal care for my first child (thought didnt birth there due to breech presentation) and annual gyne exams and screenings. I saw a counselor for mental health support during my first pregnancy and attended postpartum support groups (where I made some great friends!). I also received IUIs with donor sperm. In other words, Ive experienced a lot of The Midwife Centers services! Not every single element of every experience has been perfect, but theyve always been open to feedback, taken accountability for any missteps, and made an effort to improve. What I appreciate most about the midwife model of care is that I know I can count on having a someone who can help me consider scientific evidence AND my own needs and preferences as I make decisions about my health. The staff at The Midwife Center work intentionally to create a safe, welcoming environment for all people seeking care, and I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking a more personal healthcare experience.

The Midwife Center was incredible for my entire pregnancy and birthing experience. The prenatal care was exactly as I had hoped for, recommendations are made but the decision making is really left up to you. Every appointment begins with the midwife asking if you have any questions or concerns. I’m starting to miss being there so often for appointments! I’m a first time mom and my labor was fairly long, everyone we encountered from phone calls at the beginning to the nurses and midwives that were at the birthing center, were so supportive the entire time. I felt safe and cared for the entire time. The post partum follow up has also been great, including the lactation check in calls and seeing the lactation consultant- Cheryl, who is such an awesome nurse. So knowledgeable and reassuring.

I wish I would have listened more to the reviews that made me so nervous when I was pregnant. By the time I had entered my third trimester, I started to wonder where the “personalized” care was that was advertised to me. The majority of the midwives made our appointments feel rushed. Some of them were as short as 10 minutes. And they were very impersonal. When I was in labor, the nurse kept telling me to rest and get back into bed even though that was the opposite of what I wanted to do (and needed to do). Reflecting on the experience, it was obvious my baby was having positional issues and I could’ve benefited from someone recognizing that and assisting me with different positions to turn my baby. Long story short…I ended up in a traumatic c section which could’ve been avoided if my care would’ve been more individualized.

I delivered here with my previous pregnancy ( 4 yrs ago next wk) the experience was the greatest birthing experience I have ever had. I got pregnant again and was expecting to have the same great experience .I sent in all required docs & kept getting the run around with scheduling an appointment. After about a month of back & fourth calls , they finally said they would not accept me because I had been seen for mental health within that year. She stated they do not have the care for mental health , I then told them I don’t need a therapist thru them because I have my own. She then said there is nothing they could do & denied me. I was very upset that I had to continue with a regular doctor & hospital delivery which was against my wishes. Thankfully my baby was delivered without issues anyway.

I feel so fortunate to have had a decade of care through the Midwife Center. They provide exceptional well-woman and prenatal care. The midwives are compassionate, thorough, and highly skilled. I felt very safe and cared for during and after both pregnancies. The prenatal classes were informative and they took the time to answer any questions that I had (and a first time mom has a lot!) during my appointments. They supported my decisions to birth in the hospital without judgement and stayed with me when both births ended in unplanned c-sections. After the babies were born, they were available for lactation support and the midwives truly seemed to care about how I was healing and adjusting. I could not have asked for better experiences!

Pittsburgh is so very lucky to have a free-standing birth center in the city! I received prenatal care and had both of my children through The Midwife Center. I ended up having to transfer to Magee with my first baby, but fortunately, my midwife was able to come with me (this was in 2019, pre-pandemic—I don’t think TMC midwives are able to catch babies at Magee anymore). I truly believe that had I not been under the care of TMC midwives, I would have ended up with a C-section.I was able to have the birth I had prepared for with my second baby in 2021, in the Mountain Room (I think! Things are a bit foggy now). It was intense, but with the support of my spouse, my doula, the nursing staff, and Midwife Nia, I was able to have an unmedicated birth. It was the wildest experience I’ve ever had in my life.I’m grateful to The Midwife Center for the care I received during and after my pregnancies. The Midwife Center was an unexpected surprise while searching for alternatives to hopsital when I found out I was pregnant with my second baby. The prenatal care was exceptionally wonderful. I drove about an hour and 15 minutes to each appointment and had great encounters with each person I came in contact with while there. The online system they use is awesome, and if I ever had a question or emergency any time of day, they got back to me quickly through there or on a phone call.My birthing experience was everything I wished for. It was everything my first birth wasnt and they took note and care to allow me to labor and birth as comfortably as I wanted while being safe and supportive and calming throughout it. My midwives on call, Nia and the student midwife/RN, and the RNs who were present with me were all so great! I cannot reccomend the Midwife Center enough. If we have a third there is no doubt, they will be where I go!The postpartum care so far has also been wonderful. They call and check in often. Everyone besides Jessie Holmquist and Nia Graziano was very comforting and helpful (those two were awful)But I can not give more than 2 stars because 5 months they knew I couldnt get my past records from my doctors and when I was almost 6 months they kinda pushed me away and let me know they are not comfortable with me birthing there. They could have said that right from the beginning but they waited months to brush me off. They also never weigh me and I couldnt get any connection to any of the midwives because you meet constantly a different one which was pretty annoying. I know you need to meet the whole staff in case certain ones arent available during labor but they should still try to keep it down to 3 midwives per patient. All in all it wasnt for me but it was also not a terrible experience.

I started using TMC for well care years before pregnancy. My experience there has always been wonderful. Each midwife and nurse practitioner takes the time to talk to me about how Im feeling emotionally, and validate my feelings if I am going through something difficult before continuing on with any sort of exam. They really care for the mental and emotional wellbeing of their patients, and Ive always felt very cared for whether that be for a regular exam, or prenatal visit. We had trouble conceiving our first child, and when I went in to talk about fertility with Emily, she was incredibly empathetic, and made me feel safe and cared for as I cried in her office, and didnt end the appointment until she knew I was okay.I had a similar experience with Nia at my first regular exam after having my daughter. I had postpartum preeclampsia, and blood pressure readings were very triggering for me, so Nia made sure I felt safe and calm before taking my blood pressure, and talked me through all of my fears around having a second baby. I never felt rushed, or like a burden in their care. I have only ever gotten this type of care with midwives.I recommend TMC to everyone, and have recommended multiple family members visit them for well care, and everyone has been really happy. The facility is also beautiful and welcoming, and has such a calming feel to it. I always look forward to visiting The Midwife Center, because the staff and facility is so wonderful. Im currently pregnant with my first child and I knew right away that I wanted all my prenatal care and delivery to be handled by the Midwife Center. The prenatal experience has been amazing so far! They are so communicative, caring, and knowledgeable about my pregnancy. Every appointment includes education about what to expect next, and I often get follow up emails from the midwives referencing conversations we had in the appointment and giving me additional information!! I love the online tool they use, Maternity Neighborhood. It makes things so easier for me. I am not writing this review to be negative about services which help women who need an alternative for prenatal care. I just want to write the review I wish I could have read before starting with them. I fully expected to love everything about The Midwife Center. But now, over 7 months in, when people ask me how is pregnancy going its the only thing that comes to mind as not good. I dread appointments and even stress spiral from phone calls and emails… They havent done anything wrong. Its just not been a good fit. I think it comes down to expectations. I read a lot about warm care that was inexplicably superior to normal doctors. I havent felt this at all. Nothing specific to complain about, but I always feel on edge because they made it clear they can transfer you to a hospital for a long list of reasons (including high blood pressure, which my blood pressure spiked for my first visit because I was so nervous) and I have always felt like if I dont stay healthy, ask the right questions, attend every visit, get them all the info they need, schedule the right classes, coordinate all the ultrasounds and other tests, they would break up with me and that hanging over me it tough to sleep a few nights. It shouldnt have scared me if they did decide to transfer me, but I just couldnt shake the feeling that I was always on thin ice. Also, they do a rotation for appointments so that you get to know as many midwives as possible, but I still feel so unfamiliar with everyone –and in fact awkward now because in every appointment I maybe made some joke to try and relieve tension, and I think offended everyone there because they think I dont take any of this seriously enough (which is probably true)–Now I just want to go to a crowded, impersonal hospital… or, I dont know, an empty field somewhere, to give birth.I wish I had gone with a provider that didnt feel like walking a tight rope. Again, not trying to knock them and what they provide, because obviously they are a great fit for lots of women. It would just be nice to have spent the last 6/7 months working with a birthing facility that I know will stick with me through all my high blood pressure and ill-timed jokes. It would have relieved a lot of uncertainty when there is already a lot of that hanging around ones head.

For my first pregnancy, I was really intrigued by the philosophy of the Midwife Center. They advertise as warm and hospitable with personal care compared to that of a hospital. For each appointment, I got to meet with a new midwife. Many of them were very warm and friendly and would answer any questions that I would ask. However, it was my perception and expectation from orientation that I would be getting to know each midwife so that there was a personal relationship developing before giving birth. However, it was very evident that once the appointment reached around 20 minutes, it was time to leave by them shuffling papers, etc. Even though the care wasnt what I was expecting, I figured they have other appointments waiting. Then fast forward to the last week of pregnancy. I was due July 29th. It was July 26th when my body started showing signs of labor. That afternoon I called the Midwife Center to alert them of what was happening. Then that evening the contractions started to really increase their frequency. So I called again to update what was happening. The Midwife on call shared with me to try and sleep through the contractions, go on exercise ball, drink lots of water, etc. This was my first pregnancy so I just wanted to make sure everything was okay because I did not want to have a baby on the parkway since we live 30 minutes away. I also was having severe back labor and I was in a lot of pain already. I tried sleeping through the contractions but couldnt since they were coming more frequent, I showered, drank lots of water, was on the exercise ball, and doing my breathing techniques. The contraction rate then was consistently at 5 minutes apart last 1 minute for 1 hour. At around midnight, I called the midwife again to let her know what was happening. One of the first things she said was, I told you not to call back until your contractions were 4 minutes apart. I looked at my husband and we both were stunned at her response. Then I told her that I was in a lot of pain and she said that if I was in that much pain I wouldnt be able to talk. Her attitude made me feel very uncomfortable to have her the one responsible for delivering my baby. I didnt quite understand why she was being so cold considering I was in labor with my first child. She made me feel like what I was experiencing was not true. But my intuition knew something was happening. I therefore decided to go to a hospital to get checked out. When I arrived at the hospital, I was already 4 cm dilated and delivered a few hours later. The care that I received at the hospital was great from the moment I arrived. If we are able to have more children, I plan to get care through this hospital instead if the Midwife Center.

I wont forget how supportive they were especially while I was recovering from a C-section and subsequent failed VBAC. They never made me feel like I failed. They made me feel empowered the whole way through. This is how birth should be experienced, with the woman feeling total control and empowerment regardless of how she chooses to deliver.I would and have 100% recommended this birth center to anyone. As someone who has spent my whole adult life moving from city to city, I know first hand how difficult it can be to find health and medical professionals that are invested in not just your physical wellbeing, but your mental wellbeing, as well. Often it feels like these relationships are forged over time with trust and a good rapport being the byproduct of many years of care. However, after just one visit to The Midwife Center for my pap and other general GYN services, I immediately felt heard, safe, and supported. For many of us, these visits bring a fair amount of emotional heaviness or anxiety with them. But at The Midwife Center, I was treated with kindness, sensitivity, and amazing communication. From that visit on, Ive always had the same exceptional care, despite seeing a few different nurses over the years based on availability. And every time, medical specifics and concerns were addressed clearly, I was asked at every possible juncture if I had any questions, and I was pointed in the direction of additional trusted resources when I needed them.So many times when receiving medical care in this country, it can feel like youre just a body on conveyor belt that needs to be moved through the health care system as quickly as possible, all in the name of efficiency. Im truly grateful to The Midwife Center for breaking that mold and giving me the time and careful consideration that everyone deserves.

I gave birth 04/17/2020 after much time of reflecting I can 100% say they don’t trust women to know their own bodies. This was my first child, and I am young 26. But when I was beginning to go in labor I KNEW. I was in so much pain. I had called them and the midwife told me there was no way I was in labor so I trusted her and second guessed myself and stayed home. After being in pain for a couple hours and the pain being so unbearable I couldn’t get out of the tub (I was using to dull pains) my partner finally made me get into the car and be on our way. Once we arrived I gave birth in 45 minutes. If I didn’t listen to my partner I would’ve given birth at home with no guidance at all. So I cannot recommend this establishment. Our midwife also was kinda rude and called my son that was just born “fussy” the whole experience made me feel uneasy and wasn’t what we expected at all.

Went here for all of my prenatal appointments. Planned on birthing here but baby had other plans. She was born in the car on the way to the midwife center. Once we arrived we stayed for a few hours, got cleaned up and ate breakfast. I thought it was very personal and comfortable. I loved having my other two toddlers in the room during appointments and it didnt feel like they were being too disruptive. All the midwives included my other kids in heartbeat checking and all of that asking them to come help. Very family oriented. Loved my experience and would birth here again if we hadnt moved away. Jatolla I believe her name was was amazing. All the midwives were so nice but she stands out to me. I wish I would have met with her more!

I have delivered three children and gotten all of my annual exams done here for the past eight years. I can never recommend the staff at The Midwife Center enough! Theyre supportive, educated, gentle, and approachable. I had terrible experiences with gynecologists before coming to the midwives and Ill never go back.

I began my relationship with The Midwife Center over 14 years ago when I became pregnant with my first child and was not happy with the answers to my questions at my OB/GYNs office. I was ecstatic to learn that a free-standing birthing center staffed by midwives was only a short drive away. From my first appointment, I realized that this was the model of care that I wished for - a well model, rather than the sick model of a hospital. My prenatal and postnatal care for all three of my children was second to none and the stories of each of my births are those that I hold close to my heart. Remaining in the same room with my baby and only having 2-4 individuals caring for me during my stay made me feel at ease. Their advice and observations during the births for position changes, use of a jacuzzi tub, perineal counter pressure, and provision of a mirror so that I could better witness my miracle in action are all things that added to the joyous end results. Following the births of our children, I was provided with excellent breast feeding support and plenty of time to bond with the newest member of our family.I have been receiving well-woman care at TMC ever since 2008 (in between pregnancies) and will continue to make the drive from my home in the north hills because their model of care is worth it. The midwife who delivered my first son is still someone who I am in contact with (the other midwives have moved to other birthing centers since then) and she will forever be a special person in my heart. I would recommend TMC for any and all needs related to womens health.

Ive had two babies at the birthing center now. Both experiences were excellent...I feel like I received wonderful personalized care, and the midwives really took their time during my appointments to answer questions, address issues, etc. They also respected my choices surrounding birth and pregnancy. Labor itself was calm with the homey environment...I would recommend them to anyone seeking an out of hospital birth!

Best switch I’ve ever made, they really care about my care, listen to how I’m feeling during my pregnancy, and are there. I haven’t had that prior to this place. I’m glad I made the switch from my old OB to The Midwife Center. You can tell the difference in the care you are receiving. Not everyone has had an OB that just wants to get paid feels at every visit and rushes out leaving everything unanswered in an uncaring manor, I did. This was referred to me by family on his side of the family, and honestly I’m glad I switched my care to here. Really wish in the beginning I knew about this place and originally had my care here. They really take the time to check on baby and your concerns. Hands down, I’m very happy with my care here.

An annual exam is not exactly what I would call fun, but the staff of the Midwife Center does its best to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Every midwife I have seen has been incredibly friendly and thoroughly informative, but I am a fan of Jatolla in particular - she excels at disseminating knowledge in a way that is accessible and empowering and at encouraging your progress no matter where you are on your journey to your best health. Although I do not plan to have children, I do plan to continue visiting the Midwife Center for my health needs.

Whether you are considering having a baby or just need to get yourself checked out, cant recommend a better place in Pittsburgh. Youll feel safe, supported, and cared for-which is all we really want. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. They are extremely great at getting backto messages (I adore their user portal) and you dont have awkward wait times alone in exam rooms (this is huge). Love love love!

Ok. So my wife and I had two kids prior in a regular hospital. We were cramped and my wife was strapped to the bed (with monitors) so she couldn’t move around, and she was treated like a number. Here she could walk around, use the tub, do whatever she felt the needed to do. There was also team of ladies encouraging her and helping her throughout the process. They worked well together and had a flow so they weren’t stepping over each other. The room was big and felt like a luxury suite and the breakfast they made her was money. The main thing i will take away from this experience was that the midwifes center has a culture of calmness. I felt like we just had a baby at the spa!

I honestly didn’t think I would ever write a positive review about going to a medical appointment but the midwife center changed that. I was very impressed with how friendly and welcoming Jatolloa was. When I was told an hour appointment time slot I was expecting to wait forever and then spend a short amount of time with a care provider, which was not the case at all. It was refreshing to be able to talk to Jatolloa prior to receiving an exam. She even sent me an email the day before my appointment because she had read the forms I filled out and wanted to check in. I feel like even if I moved out of the area I would continue to return to the midwife center for care.

I was not pleased with the way I was treated here. I expected so much more from this facility. But if I take all the personal out of my experience there are a few things I thing every woman should know. When you are pregnant you do not get checked to see if you dilated any. Screenings like Group B testing are performed by yourself. If you miss appointments (no matter how far into your pregnancy you are) they have the right to not let you give birth at their facility. The customer service is horrible. You are treated like cattle and not a human being. Plus if you are pregnant you already feel the need for extra attention and support. I know a woman who the midwives left in labor for 40+ hrs. Finally they took her to the hospital and her baby ended up in the NICU for weeks! Just be careful if you go. Know your body and your worth. It is you and your babys health at risk!

During my first pregnacy, I switched from the OB halfway through to the midwife. Best decision I ever made. I ended up with pre-eclampsia and delivered in the hospital, but had it not been for my midwife, Id have had a C-section. As it was, I delivered a perfect beautiful baby boy. It was 43 hours in the hospital start to delivery, and the midwife stayed with us the whole time. Second, third, and fourth were all delivered in the hospital each for their own reason, and each time our midwife delivered the best of care. From the first time I sat down to discuss our pregnancy I was impressed with how much they cared about me. With the OB, appointments were in and out and most of the time was spent with the medical assistance asking me questions. The first time I met the midwife, she asked if I had everything I needed... a safe place to live, enough food and clothing... she actually cared about ME. Never did my OB ever ask about ME. And when I did discuss things with the OB, she told me that pretty much every first pregnancy is the same. Yep... thats what she told me. I loved having a midwife and always recommend their care to everyone from my 17-year-old daughter to my 70-year-old mother-in-law. Thank you Midwife Center. And thank you especially Ann McCarthey who delivered number 4, baby Max, who turns 11 next Friday. :) You guys are the best!!

The CRNP had no idea how to remove an IUD and thus provided an extremely uncomfortable appointment. Then proceeded to instill fear about potential surgeries I would need to undergo to get it removed. Saw an MD elsewhere- took him 2 minutes to remove it - Little pain. The team at this center had poor training. Poor competence. Poor customer service. No bedside manner. The fancy waiting room, and “welcoming” vibe does not outweigh the horrible and scary experience. Do not recommend for annuals, exams or family planning.

They got 2 stars, one for their very nice nurse, Cheryl, and the other for their rooms, which are beautiful and relaxing. But the director made it impossible to decide if I wanted to give them $1000 a month for the next 7 months and whether or not I felt comfortable signing the payment agreement before I could be seen. When I explained my anxiety with doctors due to multiple past horrific situations of being mistreated due to lack of proper diagnosis, she didnt seem to care. I was trying to get insurance and she said beforehand she said she hoped I had been seeing someone else. Clearly my trust, stress and anxiety didnt mean much to her. Then to be considered on the sliding scale based on income, as they claim to accommodate all people, I had to bring proof of state insurance denial.. do you have any idea how long it takes for that? Where am I supposed to come up with 2 grand to give you before I can be seen?? After 5 weeks of back and forth and having my questions dodged, I looked elsewhere. I am currently seeking help at AHN Midwives program and they are making it quite easy.

I attended orientation and was made aware that the midwife center does not offer epidurals during labor . Very disappointing. You would have to physically drive yourself to the hospital from the center while in pain if your labor pains are unbearable. Also due to the pandemic water births will not be offered and there is no set date on when it will. I advise to attend the orientation before going in to an appointment.

Horrible. Not the friendly, cooperative environment that you would expect from a midwife center. First and foremost, they are secretly in league with UPMC, and seem to be a retention center for UPMC, redirecting low income patients back into the UPMC network. I had a successful vbac 4 years ago, they knew this. And they knew I only had one prior prenatal appointment before switching to the midwives center. They prescreened with this info and accepted me. when I questioned why I have to deliver at UPMC, If they truly are independent, things got weird. I got to my first appointment and the director Ann , decided to tell me, in a very condescending way that they couldnt see me because Im high risk because i had a c-section 7 years ago. Despite having a successful v-back 4 years ago and with no past or current medical conditions. They also noted that i had one hospital visit before them , even though they knew this before accepting me. I recorded my conversation with the boss of Anne, who didnt deny this was a mistake but she stuck with Anne nonetheless. Beware of this place, its just a branch of UPMC.

Very racists towards black women. They cant treat bw with something as minor as Anemia. Despite me having 4 vaginal healthy births. They tried to force me to see a hematologist, which wanted me to take steroids, platelet transfusion, or Retuxin which has rat and mice antibodies. None of which increases blood platelets. They refused to allow me to change my diet which actually increased my platelet count. They lied during orientation and said they do not force women to make choices yet they tried to force me to do drugs even though a diet change was all that was needed. They said women can deliver there with a blood platelet count of 80, I had 95, and then increased to 100 with diet change and they still said I could not deliver there. WP set up laws to prevent black women from being midwives and now they exclude us from the profession we created. BP need to separate from these heathens.

Then called back left a message and havent heard from anyone. Obviously theyre just too busy for people. A 2 to 3 day wait for a call back turned into a week and a half and still no call. I was looking forward to delivering here. The website looks amazing but I cant trust people who cant even make time to return a call. So I guess I will be going elsewhere.
