Check down at the bottom of this review for my description of the Da Vinci surgical robot demo.Had a good experience at the ER. I came in with abdominal pain. They teiaged me promptly and drew blood for tests. Then they put me in a different waiting room. I actually got my test results back in the MyChart app before I got out of the waiting room. When I thought they were ignoring my abdominal pain too long, I pointed out to the staff that I was still having pain. They moved me to a separate room where I was seen by a physician assistant. She got my process going. They ordered a CT scan, and once they saw that I actually had a reason to be in pain, they took me back to the main ER and started my treatment. Then they admitted me to the main hospital. That was yesterday. I was treated, and I am much better today. Its taking longer than Id like to get me discharged, but I know that they have lots of other patients besides me. I recommend GBMC.5/31/23Had another interesting experience at GBMC today. Since Im on their mailing list, they sent out an invitation to a hands-on demo of the Day Vinci surgical robot.Since this was a demo for civilians the robot they showed us was a training model sent over by the company that makes them, not the one they use in the operating room.I thought there would be a huge crowd so I got there early. It turned out that there werent that many people in the audience so I had the opportunity to play with the robot a few times. Its amazing. Its not the kind of robot that you would see in a science fiction movie. It doesnt walk and talk, and it wont decide to take over the world. What it does is let the surgeon sit at a console across the room and operate on the patient with tiny little hands through tiny little holes in the skin. The surgeon can see in three dimensions and can have 10x magnification so every cut and every stitch can be placed with 10x precision. In the past, women, on average, had an advantage over men for performing surgery since women, on average, have smaller hands. This machine levels the playing field since all surgeons get tiny little hands and operate through tiny little holes. The patient benefits because those tiny little holes heal quicker and dont hurt as much while theyre healing.Ive added two pictures, the robot and the control module, to the pictures attached to this review.

I think it is a crying shame that this hospital charges patients and visitors to park. GBMC overall, as a hospital is very good. I have three doctors that I see here. Some will validate, others are told they are “No longer allowed to.” Why are some offices “allowed” while others are not? Do I stop seeing my doctor that I like??? What I will do is check to see if they have their practice in any other location and go there because you are not charged to park at private offices. What is the purpose of charging people to park when they are “captive” with no alternative??? It is extortion in my opinion.

Parking is difficult. I cant locate valet. I cant find handicap spaces. I cant find a shuttle. Every parking space requires a good walk. Not easy on us older folks with arthritis, etc. And because it takes me so long to walk back and forth to car, I end up paying $6 for parking every visit.Otherwise I like the medical staff here.

I needed a copy of my records from an ER experience I encountered on May 17, 2024. I needed a copy of a disk and had the pleasure of talking with Tracy Brown in your records dept. It felt like I was talking to an old friend. Her customer service skills were on point. I had to pick up my records and because I use a cane, I did not know how I could possibly get to the records dept to pick them up. Tracy was sweet enough to meet me at my car. Who does that? I really needed those records and Tracy made it worth my while to make the trip alone to pick them up. You need more like Tracy. She cares about those that she come into contact with. Thank you Tracy, if this is how you treat all your clients you should be recognized for your customer service skills.

This hospital seems severely understaffed. People are in the ER waiting room looking like they wont make it to treatment, young and old. 3+ hour wait times are ridiculous. If your ailment doesnt kill you the anxiety experienced while waiting to be seen by seemingly nobody will. Why is the system down with a waiting room full of sick patients? In the middle of the night? Unreal. Management should be ashamed of themselves.

After reading all the terrible reveiws, I decide to honestly write my own. First the ER, showed up with some scary symptoms. Was evaluated imediatly then put in waiting room to wait to.be taken for a test. We sat a bit waiting for test results and was told I was going to be admitted. Everyone in ER was pleasent and careing. Thebeauutiful room on the 5th floor. Nice large space, private bathroom. Everyone knocks politly before coming in. The nurses, med techs, food delivery people, phlebotomists, everyone was kind and polite. There was explanatuions for everything. I went in with a scary situation and the staff showed concern and compassion. Special shout out to staff in CT scan, cardiolgy, IR, and the staff of the 5th floor. Thanks for all the great care, my few short days there. Would definitly stay there again need be. I was very impressed.Thank youLisa

I am giving 2 stars because the ER and ancillary departments were excellent.I came to the ER and was diagnosed with a kidney stone in my ureter which was also kinked, Bacteremia, sepsis. The nurses in the ER could not have been any better. I was sent for multiple tests and then to the OR for a stent placed in my ureter.I was then was admitted to unit 36. It was an awful experience. The room was dirty, have NO idea what the white stuff was under my bed was, which I discovered days later. I cleaned my bathroom floor with wet towels. The shower was gross but I needed to at least try to clean myself. The first intern had to be fired for too many reasons to write about. The one good thing I can say is Dr. Ward seemed to be on top of things, but unfortunately, I only had her for 2 days.I am a RN and former employee there. Maybe the nursing training has changed since I left. The care was non existent except for 2 nurses who actually did their jobs. Jordan and unfortunately I cannot remember the young ladys name who also seemed to know what being a nurse was.My daughter who is the easiest going person I know also was disgusted with the care I received and vowed NEVER to let me go there again for anything. She as well as the physician I work for, were quite disappointed with the lack of medical care I received. I on more than one occasion had to request my own labs, which caused me to be stuck more than I should have. Thanks to the nurse Jordan (who was not my nurse at the time), he was able to save my IV since the nurse I was assigned to, did nothing. This is just one example. I have many.If you are truly sick or have NO advocate to stay with you, stay away from this hospital. They have definitely changed since I worked there. So sad, that the medical profession no longer cares. It used to be HealthCARE. Now who knows what it is, Just a disgrace. Try St. Joes. Wish I had of gone there.

The staff is so nice and make the experience of being at the hospital less horrible. I love the nurses and doctors and everyone there. I had a c section 6 months ago and mentally I don’t think I could’ve handled it without them. I had another surgery today and again, they were so kind and helpful. I will never go to any other hospital. The wait wasn’t too horrible, they were on top of stuff, explained everything in layman terms, checked on me, everything. My nurses Alexa and Brandi were so nice and reassuring when I was anxious about leaving my baby at home. I truly appreciate their kindness and sincerity. ❤️

The wait time to get out of the parking lot was worse than the wait time in the doctors office. I escorted an elderly person to see her doctor. Once I dropped her off in front of the building where her doctors office was located, I went and parked my car. After leaving the doctors office, I went to retrieve my car to pick up my elderly friend who I left in the lobby of the doctors office.. It took approximately 20 minutes to get out of the parking garage. This either has to be improved or stop charging people to park... My friend became very anxious, and she thought I left her in the lobby and went home without her.

I visited the GBMC-Infectious Diseases department. This is the second go around with them. Although Dr. Jennifer Townsend was very thorough and personable, the communication and follow up was horrendous. My medications were sent to the incorrect pharmacy and she did not notify me that she had chosen a different pharmacy but to complicate matters, its taken 3 days of back and forth calling and texting to get it straightened out. Meanwhile, Ive been sick for over 7 days and still dont have my medication. Id suggest that a retraining of the office staff would be advisable.

We had our first child born at GBMC in October 2022. The experience with GBMC from labor & delivery, recovery and NICU was top notch. Staff were friendly, attentive, very professional and facility is clean. Having a baby that needs a NICU stay, we were definitely parents in distress but we’re immediately comforted and reassured by the high level of professionalism, care and friendliness of the doctors, nurses and all other staff. There’s also live piano at the lobby which is nice for relaxation.

This locations service and staff has definitely declined over the years but it is cleaner than many of the surrounding hospitals. Their check in process starts with receiving a booklet that would be efficient if they actually filled it out along the way. They have boards to show where you are on the waiting list but they aren’t really accurate. However, 95% of the staff is always friendly and helpful; which is a relief when you are already coming to a place at your worst.

There is absolutely NO excuse for this or any other emergency room to except walk in patients when the wait time exceeds 2 plus hours. Its the same thing they do for ambulances when they redirecting them to another hospital when there ER department is at capacity. There are people in the ER that have been here 9 plus hours still waiting to se a Dr. Its not the staffs fault I sure its the hospital management which in my opinion thats the president, and or the board of directors decision which I guess is all about the God almighty dollar, NOT the patient.

Then I inform them I need to use the restroom, so they need to unhook me and they have a nerve to ask for urine after I’ve been sitting in a room for over 3 hours. The level of care is absolutely horrible. The fact I seen my nurse once in 3 hours & I called for her to come and its 30 mins later & she shows up like “yes” There is absolutely no reason I should be sitting in a room for 3 hours when all my blood was drawn while I was waiting my test results came back while in the waiting room I have a pic line in my arm I’m completely ready for a doctor and I have to complain to get seen. They either making us sitting ducks for some money or something really wrong in this place and they need help getting it back together.

This is a terrible hospital. I’ve been there since last week following a hip surgery. They have done nothing to manage my pain or muscle spasms despite being a stroke survivor and dealing with spastic hemiparesis. I take prescribed medication for this and despite that and my pain levels, they refused to even get a neurological consult for my issues stating that it was just “spasms”. It is spastic hemiparesis for which I take Baclofen. They are obviously in the pocket of the pharmaceutical companies when I can request an opioid for pain every 3 hours but can not get prescribed medication that I have been taking for years. They’ve increased it but I had to call the neurology department in the hospital in order for this to happen (they fussed at me for it). I called my own neurologist and asked what to do and he said to have them increase the medication and offered to call them for me. They want me in rehab but I’m in spasm and contracture so bad I can’t move. The pharmacy here can apparently schedule meds whenever they want as opposed to opioids that I can literally get upon request every 3 hours. This is disgusting and so horrible I have no words.

They truly made this experience so comfortable and less nerve wracking during recovery. I 100% would recommend them for care. These are true medical professionals with tons of empathy. God bless them! Thank you Tasha & Brenda!!Additionally, my surgery was done by Dr. Daya, him & his entire team are heaven sent and paid very close attention to detail, from Dr.Valdez, to the anesthesiologist (she’s a doctor —so sorry I forgot her name), the nurse courtney called me the day before the surgery and was SO kind and answered all my questions. Once I came in the next day for surgery, she stayed by my side essentially the whole time prior to the surgery and really helped me stay in ease. Bethany (who looks like Sandra Bullock hehe ) was also extremely helpful. 10/10 teams I mentioned here!Thank you all so much!!

I must speak honestly about my experience thus far with this business. Ive called twice now to set up an appointment for an Echocardiogram and both times, no one is in the know of whats going on.... No one received the referral... They dont know each departments fax number... They dont know who is affiliated with the hospital. Grant it, their telephone mannerisms were nice but speaking to the staff was equivalent to endless roads that led to dead ends and u-turns. Its as if everyone exchanged their brains for helium. Very bizarre and a cause for concern!! The interactions with the personnel at GBMC this week raised my anxiety and its telling me to abandon ship and look for a new Primary provider. To be honest, I started to get the feeling of distrust when the PCP ordered medication for me and never went over the pros and cons of its usage. I paid $100 for medicine that I did not use because the effects were extremely dangerous. I also was billed for $345 for a monitor that I had to wear for 2 weeks and asked my PCP about it only to be told its fine as nothing was a cause of concern. For that amount I would expect to go over statistics and trends and notations. The integrity of this business is not up to par with my standards. I will be going elsewhere.

My daughter was given an date and time for induced labor on a Sunday at 9pm, my daughter gets here and we was told to wait an hour for a room. We have been setting for 3 hours waiting for a room. We asked the nurse why was we still waiting this long and we were told that any women that comes in here that is in labor goes before my daughter no matter the time she was set up to be induced. Its not fair as patient to be told a set time and then you still waiting. Not to mention the nurse said you suppose to call a hour before your appointment which no one absolutely no one told my daughter this information at all. The nurse keep coming to ask us if we want to go home and wait til they call us back for a room. I asked them are you gonna reimburse my gas for coming here. Like this and then going home and then having to come right back. This is crazy, and we still waiting. Do not come here to delivery your babies you will not be treated right. Ataliya Yocheved Shlomit was born here, we received wonderful care. My birth plan was respected, except for where it conflicted with hospital regulations. I do wish I was able to move around to help manage labor pain like they allowed me at GW hospital in DC with my previous daughter. We did have a hiccup when the pipes burst over our bed, the nurses came immediately, and moved us along with all our things to another room. I was also provided cloth diapers once they knew I was cloth diapering. We visited GMBC from June 6, 2021 I til June 9th, 2021. I was allowed to labor naturally with monitoring. It was a challenge not being able to manage my labor pain like I wanted and them not allowing me to deliver my baby in a position that was comfortable for me. On my back and sitting up is definitely not the best way to labor. For that reason I wouldn’t go back. The main reason I chose to give birth here due to low c-section rate, which for that main reason I am glad I chose to give birth there.

I was born at this hospital in 1990 and it has been the main location for me and my family’s drs for years. There has been a RAPID decline of the care and sensitivity of the drs and nurses here.I was in the Pediatric ER last night for my daughter who had a badly sprained ankle. When the drs and nurses in the ER interact with patients (especially patients of color) it’s appears their main goal is to brush your symptoms and make you feel like you’re over-reacting for being there instead of actually listening to the patients. This has increasingly been my experience with them for the past 5 years. This hospital is currently putting millions into building new buildings while the medical staff becomes more and more white and less compassionate and inclusive.I would not recommend that any people of color do business with this hospital on any level. The staff , especially in the ER, do not reflect the Baltimore community and that makes this place dangerous. Corporate greed has ruined GBMC.

Update: 4/2023Discharges your loved one with a serious diagnosis without notification (especially after verbalizing the request to a provider for notification), not making sure the patient has a safe ride home with family (especially after given narcotics for pain), not making sure they can get their prescriptions before the pharmacy closes, incomplete assessment of pain and failure to report and treat pain upon time of discharge, discharging patient with unacceptable pain level score (including new pain that was ignored), staff passing the buck with a nonchalant lack of genuine concern after the fact, staff (including supervisor/charge) indirectly blaming patient for taking narcotic when nurse dropped it in the trash by making the patient feel like they are drug seeking when they are not, slamming doors and talking loud or being obnoxious at night so you can’t even sleep, lack of privacy using the bathroom. What is wrong with this place?!!!!Besides lack of communication and an extremely poor effort of involving the family in the process, once you drop your family member off here you don’t really know what is going to happen. Now my family member has to go to an urgent care, the day after discharge, to get his ankle looked at (he can barely walk) and for unresolved pain that should’ve been assessed by nursing and addressed by the provider. Maybe this is done to encourage frequent admissions for profit🤬🤯👎👎.We don’t do ANY of this where I work!!! We ALWAYS include family and follow through with any patient or family requests. I’ve seen providers chew out residents for ignoring complaints. At this place: completely shameful and pathetic medical care. Avoid this place.Older review from 2/3 out of 5 stars-They saved my mother’s life for a condition another hospital later did not catch.Their hospice doctor we dealt with wasn’t very responsive and one sided and somewhat cold.I also do not agree on their intubation practices on conscience people (when they wake up). When I demanded to speak to the attending of the ICU the nurse just pushed me aside as well as the acting nurse manager covering. Two anesthesiologists at a reknown hospital in the city both told me prolonged intubation can cause long term trauma and she should’ve been extubated if she was awake! That’s called torture.

The only issue i had was that my husband and two children could not come back to my room with me. We were told No more than 2 people visiting in a room which kind of broke me a little because i had no one to take my kids so my husband could be with me. I was terrified and wanted comfort from my kids and husband. I understand policies and rules, but it was only making me feel worse and more scared for my life being alone with my thought while i waited for all my blood work and test results to come back. Aside from that i am very pleased with how i was treated and how pleasant and comforting everyone was to me. Thanks GBMC!❤

DR.MIRZA BAIG‼️ is the worse doctor I’ve had to deal with. He was rude, very impatient, not sympathetic at all and disregarded the fact I was alone. I had an abscess in my mouth which he drained. he also didn’t gave me any pain medication. Because I was alone I was on the phone with my boyfriend and Dr. Baig took my phone and hung up the call. Thank you nurse Jessica, she was amazing and i would vouch for her a million times.

I went for a regular doctors appt and was checked into the hospital. My blood pressure was high once I hit my third trimester and blood wasnt going through the umbilical cord to get to the baby so they needed to monitor both of us. The nurses were extremely attentive and very nice. One of them comforted me when I broke down because I wanted to go home. I was suppose to stay for 4 weeks and then they were going to induce my labor, but on the 4th day my blood pressure was dangerously high and the babys heartbeat had dropped very low so they got me prepped for a C Section. They were so sweet to me. They kept me calm until my husband got there. They were holding my hands, and rubbing my shoulders. They even wiped my tears and my nose lol. After the procedure they were so attentive and made sure I took my pain medicine and that I was comfortable. Even the people who brought my food up to me were nice. They always cleaned my table off, pulled it close to me, and asked was I comfortable. It felt weird asking the nurse for help with my underwear and pad when my husband or mom wasnt there, but they didnt seem to mind helping me. The nurses in the Nicu also took GREAT care of my son who was born at 31 weeks. Overall the care from every single employee there made my stay comfortable and enjoyable. When it was time for me to go home I didnt want to leave my baby, but I trusted the Nicu employees Hes home now and doing fantastic. I will forever love GBMC and I will be there again with my second child, hopefully under happier circumstances.

The only reason I gave it a 4 star review was because the person who started my IV, took about 4 tries before she could get it right, which resulted in a lot of bruising and 2 small scars. Other than that, my experience was wonderful considering the circumstances of my visit. The doctors, anesthesiologist and nurses were so compassionate and knowledgeable. Even the genetic testing center continues to be very attentive and understanding months after my surgery.

I have been to a few emergency rooms and this one is my go too when needed. I went a few weeks after the Christmas surge when everything kinda calmed down with COVID and hardly anyone was there. I was in and out within 2.5 -3 hours. Dr.Dov was great and had awesome bedside manners. The male nurse was really nice too and personable as well. 2 days later i went back and i also had Sarah who was a PA. She seems concerned and did everything possible to help me. Unfortunately i needed to see a specialist and had to get emergency surgery that week but the ER at GBMC did everything they could. They seemed well organized and tried their best to figure out what was wrong with me without me being there for hours while Bayview and Franklin square is always a 6+ hour wait on a slow day. Def recommend.

I would not recommend even trying to contact this organization. I tried contacting them see about getting my mother admitted to their inpatient rehabilitation center, and was subjected to about 30 minutes of the most frustrating experience I could have ever imagined.First, the hospital operator connected me to the wrong department TWICE. The second time, the department I was forwarded to ended up disconnecting me. They did give me a number to call, however, in case anything went wrong. It was a FAX machine; so, no dice there. Then, I looked on the web site for the rehabilitation center phone number. When I called that, I kept getting disconnected. After several tries at that, I gave up.Even after calling the main hospital number to make a complaint, the operator forwarded me to yet another number. It was voice mail telling me Id reached the wrong department, and that Id have to call the main hospital number to make a complaint. Really? Thats what I just did, and now its forwarding me back to the main hospital number? WOW!! Its impossible to even submit a complaint!! This has to be the worst-managed facility I have ever seen... and Ive seen some pretty bad ones.I honestly dont know how anyone could make their way to the correct department, given everything I experienced. With this level of utter incompetence, just within the phone system, I am no longer even considering entrusting this organization with the care of my dear mother.

My life ended at this ER, and my family lost everything. No, this is not fiction or a bad dream, although I wish it were. I had excruciatingly painful, life-threatening, gangrenous, ruptured appendicitis with peritonitis--along with all the obvious symptoms--but was secretly diagnosed with an anxiety disorder by an arrogant, condescending, incompetent, greedy ER doctor. (Yes, that old chestnut: if youre a woman, especially one who has just had a baby, it must all be in your head! Your pain cannot possibly be higher than a 10. Also, the ER doctor does not actually work for this hospital; hes just an independent contractor who can and will have his way with you!) I tried to get a second opinion and to transfer myself to another hospital, but the doctor refused my requests. I was too weak and in far too much pain to walk out. Pain medication, life-saving antibiotics and fluids were withheld because the dismissive, condescending nurses could not insert an IV line, rupturing the veins in both my arms. One nurse dismissively wrote in my records that I had been confused when I told her I was starving to death. Already too thin from vomiting black, foul-smelling liquid, I lost 10 more pounds in just two days at GBMC because the doctor needlessly had me NPO. Yet my abdomen blew up to a size larger than when I had been nine-months pregnant. By the time I contacted a patient advocate at ANOTHER hospital and obtained permission to transfer there, I had horrible abscesses the size of footballs and black and blue arms, conditions which the ambulance medic recorded but GBMC just didnt care to notice. I developed numerous, excruciatingly painful infectious complications (including a complete colon blockage and twisting of the mesentary from having no internal body fat) and required three additional, horribly painful emergency abdominal surgeries within two months. Due to the ruptured veins in my arms, the nurses had to use both my hands for the numerous IV lines. And I spent time in the ICU where I underwent excruciatingly painful NG treatments. After I was discharged, I was disfigured, disabled and in pain. I could not care for myself or my infant daughter. I could not work. I was no longer able to carry a pregnancy. My husband lost his job for spending too much time caring for us. I later required extensive reconstructive abdominal surgery to close a 12×5 hole in my abdomen, reconnect my detached abdominal muscles and detach my colon from where it was attached to my skin. I now have no belly button and am essentially not human anymore. If you value your life and family, stay away from this ER at all costs. And please remember that you do have rights, including the right to leave.

I heard him tell the staff to “remind everyone that there is a shortage of doctors”. I understand that it is currently a struggle in the medical field right now but do not make your patients feel bad for seeking care. He took forever to see me and when he did he said about 5 words to me. My oxygen level kept on dropping and my heart rate was extremely high and yet he still discharged me. I have pylenephritis and they told me to go back if I was experiencing new symptoms such as not being able to breathe, which I was, yet they did nothing for me. They asked if I wanted pain meds even though I was already on a bunch of pain meds such as a narcotic that gave me no pain relief at all. When I asked him why do I still have so much pain and it seems to be getting worse even though I am on these antibiotics he said “I don’t have a good answer” he did not know what he was talking about. He got so restless, angry, and wouldn’t sleep so we decided to leave. Came in a little before 9:30 and left at 2:30am all for nothing. They told us at the desk that he was next, but it may take several hours for him to be called because of how crowded and severe things were with other patients. No way in the world an infant should have to wait that long for treatment. Should have went with my gut and taken him to Hopkins but opted out because of distance. Never again. Nurse also refused to give me a work note since we were not seen by a doctor. At that point we walked out the door. Better off waiting until the morning to call the pediatrician.

There is no vetting or priority given for ill patients versus patients coming in for less critical issues. Very disappointing.

However, my experience with GMBC was less than impressive. A nurse came in every few hours during my stay after delivery to remind me to take my pain medication and to use the various antiseptic sprays, etc. and to ask when is the last time I took the medicine and used the spray. Every time, I would inform the nurse I have not yet been given any medication or spray, the nurse would say she would check into it, yet I left the hospital 2 days later still never having been given any pain medication or antiseptic. I could not even sit up in bed enough to lift my son in and out of the cradle because it was too hard to move. I also had problems breast feeding. My son would not latch on properly. A lactation consultant came in for literally about a minute and a half, shoved him onto my breast and walked out. He unlatched in less than a minute and she never came back even though I asked many times for assistance.

Always had a good experience at GBMC for my previous stays. This time was different. Started at the Womens & Outpatient Surgical Center. Was scheduled for surgery at 10am. Didnt go back to 1pm. Asked the nurses what was going on and they said the 1pm patient (3rd on the schedule) showed up at 6am so they took her first, the 8am scheduled patient (Planned 1st patient) showed up late but they waited for her. So I sat waiting with not one person telling me, I had to ask. They could have called me before I showed up and let me stay home until my new scheduled time. Then after my surgery, they forgot about me in the recovery room. I was supposed to be transported to a regular room at 430pm and sat there until 7pm. The surgical center closed at 5pm. The 2 nurses that had to wait for me to get a room were frustrated because they wanted to go home and sat and whispered (or so they thought) about me. They took my cell phone from me and said I had it long enough and handed it to my husband and then asked my mother and husband leave and go wait in my room that I would eventually be transported to. I was in the middle of watching my daughters live streamed performance as she took the phone. She didnt want to be held responsible for the phone during transport. She didnt even transport me and someone would have had to snatch the phone out of my hand. Had my surgery not been delayed 3 hours and then forgotten for 2.5 hours I wouldnt have missed the live stream but since they had made these mistakes you would think they would provide some accommodations but none were. Then I get to my regular room...treatment no better. Everytime I pushed the nurse button I felt like I was a bother to the stuff. The nurse that came in to take my blood mumbled every time I asked a question or just flat out ignored me. No hi or bye as she entered or exited the room. Terrible experience, guess Ill try St. Joseph or Johns Hopkins next time.

Over the years policy, procedures and regulations have become relaxed within healthcare. My visit to GBMC emergency became uncomfortable quickly. Check-in was quick however my privacy rights were non-existent.My personal information was broadcast as staff spoke loud enough for everyone to hear my personal information, my reason for my visit in addition to PHI (name, address, phone number, etc.).When giving billing information your asked to sign this little black box. I asked for proof of what I was signing and the young lady could not provide. The only person that introduced themselves were the young men transporting you to get your x-ray or CAT scan. One of my symptoms was dizziness and I was walked (no wheelchair) to the room for x-ray.Upon getting CAT scan, I had accessories in my locs that need to be removed. The older caucasian woman stood over me flicking my locs making sure to touch each one (even the ones without accessories). Never asked if she could touch my hair. She was not even the person to do the scan. The African gentleman that did the scan wore gloves and asked if I needed help removing them. The PA (I read the badge, no intro was given) discussed everyones issues and care aside their chair in the waiting room. No privacy and sometimes the patient near by would chime in to discuss the reason for your visit.I never was given privacy and checked out from the hallway after the male nurse took vitals. My elevated BP was never discussed until I asked. And I was sent on my way with left arm in excruciating pain because the BP cuff was too tight, tightened all thee times of getting a reading. One of the fastest and mist uncomfortable visits ever.

Do Not Attend This ER . I came to the ER for heart complications and sat in the waiting room for a little under 9 hours. I continuously advised the nurse things werent improving and I was waved away stating the longest person waiting for care was 9 hours in. The technician who checked everyones temperature did not use a forehead thermometer, when asked why(due to the possible spread of covid 19) I was advised the forehead thermometer is often stolen. The tech was not thorough in sanitizing the thermometer between each person. When having my blood pressure monitored the tech advised I did not need to remove my thick jacket, in which I added it might give a false reading. After finally being admitted to a room enough bloodwork was taken to fuel the American Red Cross for a month with no conclusion at the end in which I was sent home. If theres an actual emergency please avoid this ER. I believe when employees perform a service and see the same result daily they become desensitized and dont treat each case as a new case, its treated as an annoyance. Unfortunately I never received a follow-up call regarding my experience which is why I decided to leave a review; a warning of sorts.

On 8/4/2022 the care I received at GBMC was inappropriate. The ER doctor (Matz) displayed that she was annoyed by KP referring a patient to them to avoid exposure to Covid in their facility. When asked to explain further why I was sent, I told her that the KP doctor was unresponsive to my symptoms until suicidal ideation was in the message. She then accused me of saying those things to get attention. When it was time for discharge, she sent in her team to intimidate me, threatening to confiscate my personal items, falsely implying that I had to be retained. If it were legitimate to retain me, I would not have been able to walk out. Upon my exit forced to rip out my own IV, because I had to escape, causing a bloody scene, and most of all trauma. No one should be made to feel like they have to escape a hospital when they come in for care. This tactic was malicious and inappropriate. The incident triggered PTSD for me, from something that occurred in my youth.

When I got there, I didnt feel like the reception staff really listened to what I had to say. When the nurse took me to the room to take my vitals, I looked down next to me and there was a piece of gauze with someone elses blood sitting in my chair. It was SO gross!!Being 2 days post-op, I was in a lot of pain in the waiting room so I asked for something to help and the nurse told me I could take the medication I brought with me. I explained to her that I felt like my breathing troubles were a reaction to the pain medication and asked for something else to take the edge off. She came back a while later with the SAME medication I already had, but thankfully my sister was there and paying attention and realized it. We asked for something else and she said thats all she could give me. I had to pretty much beg her for some Tylenol to take the edge off. When I finally did get called back, the Dr was rude and wouldnt listen to what I was saying. They did tests and ruled out a blood clot, but couldnt give me a reason why I was having trouble breathing. He said it was impossible for the pain medication to cause that kind of reaction, and I must just have anxiety issues or something. Which I dont, and it wasnt that kind of an issue at all.By this time, the pain medication I took prior to going was out of my system and I was feeling a lot better so I just went home and called my surgeons office and they gave me a new prescription. I also googled the old medication and spoke with my surgeon at my follow-up appt a few days later, and come to find out its a well-known serious side effect and I literally could have died if I kept taking it and couldnt wake myself up to breathe. The nurses were really nice and caring, but I refuse to tolerate incompetent doctors. I asked for some pain medicine in my IV and was told no. I was told I had to have an hour of fluids before I could get my epidural. By that hour my contractions were 2/3 minuets apart. When the Epidural was given to me it did help for maybe 20 minuets and started to wear off!!! I’ve had a baby before I’m not naive I understand the pain that comes with child birth. However if I knew I would be giving a “natural” birth I wouldn’t have risked getting the Epidural in the first place. The anesthesiologist‘s only solution to my problem was taking the needle out and re-doing my epidural. One time risking sticking a needle in my spine is enough for me! I declined and was going to just continue pushing since my contractions were 1/2 minuets apart. After the ob on call came in, she was no help, didn’t help walk me through pushing or anything. The nurses were way more informed and helpful during my whole experience. One of the my nurses was Julia, she was awesome! Very patient! After 3 hours of pushing some lady walked in my room with the ob I’ve been dealing with. She proceeded to tell me that my baby’s head was tilted up so I wouldn’t be able to push him out, and my only option was to have a c-section. I was extremely against a c-section unless my baby or I were in danger, which we weren’t everything was normal with both of us. I asked the lady (I still don’t know who she was) if I could continue to push, she replied with for how long? What kind of a dumb question was that! As long as it takes to deliver my baby! She told me I could do whatever I wanted to do but it wouldn’t work I would just end up having the c-section later rather than just doing it now. I was petrified and was in so much pain already, my worst fear of a c-section!!!!! I even begged them if there was anything else I could try or do. Everyone I talked to about this hospital said they had to have a c-section. People just like me that had vaginal births before came to GMBC and were told their only option was a c-section! Even funnier thing is that some of the women I talked to had the doctors tell them the same thing about the baby’s head being tilted upward. Only reason I ended up using GMBC when I really didn’t want to was because my crappy Kaiser insurance! I had my first child at Howard County General and it was the best experience I could ask for. Now I would not want to have anymore children after the experience at GMBC! If you have an option, go ANYWHERE ELSE! Unless you don’t care how you deliver your baby, but for me it ruined my excitement and joy of giving birth. Now I’m stuck with my only option if I decide to have another child is by c-section. I can say thank god my baby is healthy! And that most of the staff was really nice. Make sure some one can bring you some food :) because their food is pretty gross, cold (I had to microwave the food to try to eat it) and was almost always wrong. I tried to order twice and gave up on them.

Terrible experience. I was in horrible pain but left at 3 a.m. after waiting 5 1/2 hours and no hope of being seen…they had NO idea how long it would be. Of course there’s triage, but this was beyond crazy. Told by a nurse that an abnormal lab result was probably result of “too much protein”- he didn’t have any idea what he was talking about. He should not have been interpreting my medical information in any case. I observed the charge nurse in the front area several times NOT WEARING A MASK. AT LEAST THREE GUARDS ALSO NOT WEARING MASKS. I was truly shocked. Staff were rude and couldn’t have cared less. Only two people out of many showed any kindness at all. The triage nurses and the phlebotomist didn’t clean between patients, didn’t wash hands and didn’t clean off the tray that they put bloodwork and COVID swabs on. Read that Maryland has worse waiting room times in the nation. I will NOT pay the bills. The labs were not collected properly, a triage nurse didn’t write down my meds or dosage correctly. Truly shocking. Somebody needs to do an undercover investigation of this place.

I had an emergency procedure done here a few years ago. The first nurses when I came in and the doctor that performed the procedure were very pleasant but when it came time for the actual procedure, there was one nurse I remember that was very rude. I mean, it was my first time being admitted to a hospital for anything and my first time getting surgery so of course I was scared out of my mind. It was almost this as if this lady expected me to know already what she want me to do. I wish I remembered her name cause I would have reported her nasty attitude.

Melissa BSN, RN is the definition of phenomenal. She is, for sure, the woman of the night and deserves some recognition. When I first walked in here, gasping for breath and unable to catch it, I was honestly ready to leave. The moment the staff found out I suffered from a mental disability--even on the most minor of scales--, it became everyones sole focus, and seemed to almost dictate their reactions and treatment. I felt singled-out and like every diagnosis from there on out would come right back around to my mental illness. However, it didnt touch her. She made sure that I wasnt treated any differently, and even stayed in the room with me for as long as possible in between her treks to retrieve supplies, ensuring that I didnt experience any more discomforts, and acting as my liaison of sorts. She reassured me that she, herself, was a mental illness advocate, and that she would never let me be treated any differently because of my prior diagnoses. She ended up being this nights saving-grace, turning a stressful and disconcerting situation into one of ease and reassurance. If I could solely rate employees, she would, for sure, receive a five-star rating, no question about it. She is the reason Im leaving this hospital with the treatment I needed, and I honestly could probably never thank her enough.

Waited in the waiting room for 9 hours just to have my father seen by a doctor for a possible stroke. 6 hours in we were told we were next. 2 hours later we were told the same thing. Patients around us were complaining that they had IV lines in for over an hour after they were finished. There was used cups, napkins, and other trash on the floor. The nurses are good but the ER Doctors there are not very engaged, they seek to make all the vital stats match the recomended levels so they can legally discharge the patients, but take no effort to find what the root cause of the problem is or to seperate symptoms vs causes. If you have a choice in the matter, go elsewhere, this hospital appears to be treating patients with shotgun medicine-- take in as many patients as possible with the most minimal medical treatment as is legally required so the hospital can maximize its profits.

As someone who works in healthcare (and for a few of the organizations within the Baltimore community), I have to say I am very impressed with GBMC.My son recently was taken to the E.D. at GBMC as a result of a lip laceration. The hospital was very clean; and the staff was very nice, professional and thorough. Although; I am sure someone within the emergency department could have stitched my sons lip, they went the extra step and called in Dr. Samuel Hahn with the ENT associates to do so on a Sunday evening to make sure it was done as best as it could be.Dr. Hahn was very calm, and really explained everything to my son, which really helped him to stay calm (as he is only 9). You can tell that he takes a lot of pride in his work; it is barely noticeable that he had 13 stitches.I really appreciated the PA Kyle A Sloan checking back in on us to re-teach/ reinforce the wound care, medication regimen, and to make sure that we didnt have any further questions or concerns.Everything from the facility, the care given, the education, and scheduling for follow up was painless... which is how the process should be. It is very reassuring to know that there is a really good hospital so close to home.Should I ever need to recommend a hospital, I will confidently recommend GBMC.Thank you for your great care.

Last week my wife, ten weeks pregnant, experienced cervical bleeding. Fearing the worse, we immediately went to the ER at GMBC. Given her situation, the ER sent us downstairs to the OB triage unit. Crying and sitting in a pool of her blood for two hours, the clinical staff bumped her waiting position for patients with more serious conditions. Once back in the triage room, the clinical staff administered tests off and on, all while we continued to wait for another 3 hours. Finally, the Nurse Practitioner informed us that the ultrasound couldn’t find a pregnancy and that our baby “was most likely a pile of mush.” No hospital should have such demeaning polices nor should anyone have to tolerate such degrading staff. I live in the Towson area. When Ive been sick in the past I used the services of Greater Baltimore Medical Center. I have great insurance. I say this because the uninsured patient experience might be different then my own.I have always found the doctors professional. The facilities are always clean. The coffee shop is clean with a nice variety of snacks. The coffee is not good as Starbucks but the coffee is not perfectly horrid.Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GMBC) to the locals is a low to mid rise medical complex. GMBCs main buildings are nestled on a large beautiful well manicured park like campus located just north of Baltimore City. GMBC has state of the art diagnostic technologies including advanced imagining facilities. GMBC boasts many of the latest in demand patient care modalities. Much of GMBCs building complex was originally built in the later third of the last century however its buildings and physical plant are updated to meet or exceed 21st century medical standards in every way.If you visit GBMC be prepared for a pleasant climate controlled walk within its vast and sprawling facilities. GMBC is an absolute labyrinthine maze of corridors and elevator lobbies. The good people of GMBC know their hospitals vast horizontal layout takes time to navigate. All GBMC staff seem more than happy to help you find your destination. The doctors are great, as are the nurses and support staff especially housekeeping. The buildings never look tired, run down, grimy or nasty. You never see many burnt out light bulbs or other tell tale signs of neglect in building maintenance. The skilled medical care is definitely patient centered and comprehensive at GBMC. Local people served by GMBC definitely trend toward the amply insured middle to upper middle class income demographic.GMBC is located on the number 51 bus line which terminates in Towson to the North in Baltimore County, Maryland. The bus #51 terminates to the south near Camden Yards in Downtown Baltimore City. GMBC is open 24 hours a day and has an adequate emergency room as of this writing. There are medical professions pavilions directly adjacent to and or attached to the main hospital complex so routine aftercare by skilled doctors is easily accessed if needed.Parking at GBMC is NOT free but is reasonable if you are middle class to upper income. Parking in some instances can be validated. Parking is provided in multilevel parkcade structures located at strategic points in the hospitals layout. GMBC is secure but the Security Presence is not overwhelming, self important and rude. GMBC security in a word is always appropriate and effective for the security demands it must respond to.Ive been to GBMC over 30 times for my different medical situations related to cerebral palsy, diabetes, skin conditions, autism and more. I have never ever been treated badly by anyone at GBMC. I am a gentleman of color. Visiting GMBC and always being treated with respect makes this a rare, wonderful welcoming place for me. Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ for my numerous cups of ice chips and helping me get well enough to go home 🏡

Last year, I was in a car accident and the driver tried to drive away, blame me, then cried when the officer told her she was going to have a hard time defending herself to the insurance companies. Then she offered me her business card and said that she was a doctor and she’d be happy to help if I did in fact have injuries... this obtuse timing of an unprofessional offer was inopportune and assured I would be avoiding these medical services.

My experience was excellent!!! I arrived 1/4/18 wee hours in the am by car, I was registered and seen immediately. There was no crowded lobby and I received immediate care right away. Every staff member that I came in contact with were pleasant, friendly and so caring, we even joked after they got me all better lol. I would so recommend GBMC E.R. they are the best! My son had broken his elbow and his school nurse ask us to take him to GBMC emergency medicine. So went there. They took some xrays and after some deliberations told us that they cant fixed it at GBMC and referred us to Johns Hopkins. All they did there were taking xrays and put an IV (which the nurse had some issue with). They called the Hopkins team and Hopkins took care after that with no glitch (thats why Hopkins is no 1 hospital). Now all said and done, I started to get bills from GBMC, from all over the places, their hospital billing, their physicians billing and what not. For just putting my son in the room for 1 hr and giving no care whatsoever GBMC billed my insurance thousands of dollors of which I end up paying some significant portion. The physicians practice billed us more than $2000 when the doc even didnt come to see us when we were there. I felt like I was being ripped off from every department of this hospital. I dont understand how they could bill so much money to my insurance while providing us no care whatsoever. Looks like thats their way of making most of their money. I was very disappointed wiih their behavior.

This place has definitely gone down over the years, before you could be in and out within a couple hours. Today I sat for almost 4 hours with an iv and ekg stickers stuck all over me. I told them I was feeling faint and my blood pressure was rising but they didn’t take any of this into consideration. I asked for the iv to be removed and I left. Customer service isn’t great anymore either

The front staff at the emergency room are the worst people, they have no compassion towards family members who are aware because of covid 19 , they are completely unprofessional, arrogant, ignorant people. If they hate their job so much why have that type of job position, they need to do a clean up of the entire front staff

Horrible hospital experience. Negligence and or malpractice may happen if you don’t demand care. Please have someone there with you as they will take advantage of you if you are not competent. 9 times out of 10 you aren’t. I was definitely neglected and malpractice can be argued as a case.

If you want pain meds and your pain to be masked and your medical needs ignored so they can send you home and misdiagnose you, come here! If you want real help with people who actually care, drive right down the road to St. Joes. Yesterday my bf was given a cat scan and blood work at GBMC, they told him that his abdominal pain was likely gas related when the scans were coming up normal. The pain meds werent working and I thought that was strange because if it was gas, that should work for him. The pain persisted and got increasingly worse after they sent us home. We went to St. Joes for a 2nd opinion. It took them no more than 3 hours to run another cat scan and find acute appendicitis, which was ruled out by GBMC. Done with this hospital, I will never return.

ATTENTION: GBMC NURSE JEFF MARTIN TURNS INTO DETECTIVE:Im writing about my personal experience on 6/9/2019, and the document I am quoting from is available to the public and is public information at the Towson District Court House. This is what GBMC charged my mom and me with after my mom borrowed an oxygen tank:On 06/09/2019 at approximately 1926 hours, I was dispatched to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) located at 6701 N. Charles St, 21204 in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, I was met by Complainant Vernon Williams.Complainant Williams (GBMC security officer) advised that two female subjects stole an oxygen tank from the emergency department .He stated that Defendant [name redacted] and her mother, Co-defendant [name redacted], had been in the E.R. for treatment and, after being discharged, took a GBMC wheelchair with an oxygen tank into the parking garage, then placed the tank in their vehicle and left the property. Both Defendents were positively identified by their MD drivers licenses using the identifying information provided to GBMC and surveillance footage.I spoke to witness Jeff Martin (GBMC nurse) who advised that Co-Defendant [name redacted], after being placed in a GBMC wheelchair, was pushed to the waiting room. Witness Martin was advised by other GBMC staff to keep an eye on both Defendants because they had been repeatedly told that they were not permitted to remove an oxygen tank from GBMC property. He stated that he noticed both Defendants begin to leave the waiting room......so he began to follow. He advised that he followed them out of the waiting room, out of the building into the parking lot, and then into the parking garage. He stated that he observed them remove the oxygen tank from the wheelchair and place it in a gray Kia [vehicle model redacted].Side notes- Jeff Martin, instead of taking care of patients in the ER, follows me and my mom to the car and is videotaping us on a cell phone (without our permission). He is even standing by the prking grge exit, filming us as we leave. I am currently working with GBMC to resolve this issue, however, they do not appear to be working on this matter much. And how safe is your personal information at GBMC? If I find they released any health information to the police, I will call an attorney immediately for violation of HIPPA. I am going to get copies of the police report and attachments and GBMC better not have released any medical information to police, like they released my drivers license and other personal identifying information.P.S. the oxygen tank was returned to GBMC on June 27, 2019 to security guard named Austin.

GET THE FEES THEY CHARGE IN ADVANCE of any services being provided!Ive been going back and forth with them for 2 years now on services they provided. They had a sign on the desk suggesting one price for the services and when the bill came it was entirely different. When I complained, they said I missed the fine print and they offered a payment plan, but no willingness to accept responsibility or to reduce the fees. Our fees are approved by the State...so you are basically screwed (my addition not in quotes)...nice place.Went to the BBB and GBMC has yet to respond. The internal medicine office does not care if you are in pain for YEARS if you are under the age of 40 they do anything possible to give you crappy medications they know suck. They are more concerned about their licenses then their patients and ongoing pain. If you are under the age of 30 they age descriminate you and just assume you are going to abuse or sell any opiates. So do not go here if you are in any type of pain because they abaolutely do not care and will just discriminate against your age.
