First Care medical clinic is 10/10 from the moment you walk in the door. It is clean and bright and has great ambiance that does not feel like a stuffy, sterile doctor’s office. The receptionists are always happy and kind, and the process to get checked in is quick and smooth. The medical staff are all very kind and professional and they seem to care about your symptoms and health. They listen carefully and ask questions, they explain things in detail and answer my questions. They get bloodwork and tests results very quickly. All with a friendly pleasant demeanor which puts you at ease even though sometimes going to the doctor can be daunting and anxiety inducing for some. I am also grateful for the convenience to make an appointment or walk in on your own schedule and get seen right away. Very happy my family has found this primary care facility.

The owner of this place is a thief. any other medical place tells you upfront what the costs will be after insurance. first they tell me over the phone and in person that my co pay will be $30. now after being seen they telling me that I have to pay $121. They are scammers and never will I come here or recommend anyone to come.

The place is horrible less then one star Had an immigration physical that had to have that paper work sealed when I picked up to mail directly to US immigration and the doctor didn’t sign or date any of it. Then trying to solve the problem the people had no idea what was going after speaking to then multiple times and then were very rude when I got there I would go anywhere else but here. They the worst possible

I went to this clinic today to get physicals for my 3 toddlers. I’ll start by saying that I am a single mother and time is of the essence for me.They were fast, and helpful. Not pushy, but I felt they did the job without judgement, and I’m grateful for that. They assisted with my children while I was there. It was a lovely visit all in all.

The Dr knows whats going on just by a test. Very knowledgeable and the nurse was great 😃 I have to give a five stars for the young lady that took my blood samples ii died feel a thing shes very good and im great ful !!!!!

The receptionist were both very helpful and nice. The wait wasnt bad at all and they were busy. The doctor was very nice. He was attentive and professional. He took his time, and I felt like my nephew was getting the best of care. He genuinely cared for the health of his patient, which was really great. Its hard to find that these days.

The staff here is excellent, they go above and beyond. I absolutely love Dr. Okwara. He actually listens to what you have to say. It can take a while but they are very thorough and address ALL of your needs. I have happily chosen to make him my primary care provider. ❤️I hate the new call center. You can not get through to the office and its extremely frustrating 😕

Spoke to the Dr./medical person about my symptoms. She listened closely & asked appropriate questions. Then had COVID & Flu test done after that was ruled out she came in & gave us her diagnosis & recommended medication. She was very thorough & professional.

The place was not clean. Floors looked dirty. Wall was dirty. Trashcan was dirty. There was something sticky on the floor that looked like old chewing gum but was black. The nurse was the redeeming factor. She was very kind.

I was wrongfully charged for some tests on my bill, and tried calling three separate times to resolve the issues but to no avail. I had to come in person and talk to the billing department and only after they reviewed the docs notes did they believe me and take the charges off. Not going there again.

Went in for an ear infection. They asked what was going on , explained that we thought it was an ear infection. Then they asked if we had been there before and when we said no, they said we needed to go to the ER because they didn’t have an X-ray machine….. for an ear infection….. in all my years for having my children and them having ear infections they have never had to have an X-ray. So we left and when somewhere else and they did not need to take an X-ray to give antibiotics and steroids. They need new staffing and not have their receptionist trying to play doctor. Will never use them in the future.

I went here being in withdrawal for 30 days and did not want suboxone. I dont want to be on anything anymore. I asked if he could give me some non opioid detox meds like clonidine, an adrenergic agonist that lowers blood pressure. He told me that Im bipolar and all addicts are. He said I need to be on suboxone and bipolar meds for life. I had never seen him face to face prior to him saying this.The doctor here is a joke. I know more about pharmacology and addiction than he does. Dont suggest this place for any medical reason.

Was here for 3 hours waiting with an appointment. To find out nothing really. And when we were told they are going to order some medicine and call us when it arrives, they never call. And when we call to find out if its there they never ordered it and now we arent even in their system. And they want us to come again for another appointment. For what, to wait another 3 hrs? No thank you. The front desk acts like they dont know anything. Its ridiculous.

My experience today at First Care Medical Clinic Monroe facility was satisfying. Customer service and the nursing staff were very friendly and attentive to my needs. My doctor was awesome, he listen to my complaints and did a thorough assessment. I would definitely recommend this facility to friends and family.

I have called the doctor repeatedly over the past 2 weeks because the insurance company needs a prior approval to get my medicine. Ive left several messages explaining in detail about the problem and he hasnt moved a muscle! The medication is for my sleep, its very important and nobody in the doctor office is helping me. This has happened more than once me having to wait on him. Very unreliable!

I had the most amazing nurse when I went! Her name is Destiny Wallace, and this is honestly the first nurse that has ever been really nice to me, I’ve been coming here since I was little, and never have I felt more cared for, safe, and informed!! She talked me through the process of everything I had to do and answered all my questions (there was many), and managed to stay respectful and patient! I will definitely be asking for her next time I have an appointment.

Thoroughly impressed with the staff & PA at this location. Took my kids for school physicals and it was our first time there. We only had to wait a couple mins. The PA was an absolute doll and was wonderful with the kids. The nurse we had was top notch. She was so kind & patient. I will definitely be going back here for more of our healthcare needs. Glad I took a chance on them.

Urgent care Monroe was the best experience I had with an urgent care and even an emergency room ever. The staff was wonderful and very attentive to.my needs and concerns. Very hands on. Worst physical ever. They told us results will be out after 3 days, it took them 2 weeks! Then, this staff told us that we can pick up the results but when we get there, it is not ready yet and we waited for 3 hours!! The front desk staff seems like she wants us to come back as the person responsible for the physical is out sick. We drove for an hour to get the results and they want us to come back after telling us that we can pick it up on Friday!! VERY DISAPPOINTING! Kudos, to one staff (Destiny) for taking over even though this is her first time working with immigration physical.

The therapist was awesome she actually cared, I she asked me three times during our conversation if there’s anything at all I wanted to talk about. She gave me the window like three times to talk about anything that was bothering me . She even gave us her personal cell phone number and told us we can call anytime if we need to talk about anything. There’s too many therapist that after 5 o’clock they’re done. We weren’t just a paycheck to her She actually wants to help. I hope she’s there for a long time. And I can’t wait for next session

I always make a point to see Dr. Benjamin Okwara for he is my primary care doctor. He always takes care of me and does test he thinks I need to assure my health is good. At my age I need someone who really cares like the doctors of old ages. He is a wonderful and caring doctor. I hope he lives forever. Three times now I have seen female a doctor named Gina G.. She is marvelous as well.. I love them both. There are no good doctors in Monroe and the general area except these. Ill be sticking with them. I always get a hug from Dr. Okwara. You dont get those kinds of care of most doctors who are there for the money.10-26-2023I went to see a doctor because I had a uti and guess what I tested positive for covid too. They are all good doctors and I will continue to see them. They take their time and Im an impatient lady so I get nervous waiting for a long time. I just need to relax and let them do their job. This is the worst place I have ever been. I do not recommend them to anyone!!! Their bedside manners are awful, people at front desk are rude as hell. They want to do unnecessary test and stuff to run your bill up. Go in with multiple problems, they wanna treat the easiest thing and send you on your way. Make a appointment and sit there all day. They never know what meds you are taken. Gotta call to get refills when they decide to answer phone if they even answer. Or you never can get through to make a appointment. Even the pharmacy cant even get through to them. I wouldnt have given them one star, theyre not worth that. They need to close the doors.

I was treated very professional from the time I entered the building. Everyone was nice. All the staff was prompt. My ailment was treated promptly. I was in and out and within a timely manner. That had never happened before anywhere. Thank you guys for being so kind and caring.

I’ve never been to this location but received a bill containing another patient’s name, insurance information and dates for testing performed. I’ve attempted a couple ways of contacting the billing department to collect additional information and correct this issue. I have not received a response. This is unprofessional and negligent.

Avoid at all costs. The whole experience was the worst i have had at a medical facility. The front staff was slow, unprofessional and incompetent providing wrong forms, multiple of the same questions, unable to efficiently confirm insurance and too busy being social with each other to be professional. Took us 45 min to get checked in. When we finally did see the Dr she was rude. Did not answer our questions and took no time to ask questions or want to help. When i had a followup question the dr didnt have the time or care to even come out- mind u there were no other patients at the time. Instead she said to leave a message. I was not told how my test results would be shared so i assumed a call. No one bothered to call with my test result . When i finally followed up they told me that a followup app had been scheduled but no one had told me- i had no clue of another appt that was scheduled for me. I never requested it. Nor did my first visit require a followup. All i wanted was my test results. I can only assume it is a shifty way this clinic tricks u into more appts and more money. People are perfectly pleasant on the phone which would lead you want to come to clinic but once you get there whole different experience.

Absolutely the worst possible facility ever. None of the front desk members have any sort of compassion whatsoever. A 5 month old BABY tests positive for COVID on 10/14. The prescription never got sent over to the pharmacy that day. Our family received a whole bunch of back and forth from the staff here. As someone who works in healthcare I am so disheartened at the lack of empathy displayed here. Once again, a 5 MONTH OLD BABY WITH COVID AND THE PRESCRIPTION NEVER GOT SENT TO THE PHARMACY. We then got told on 10/15 that the healthcare provider who wrote the prescription was working at another location. They stated they’ve sent him messages but he hasn’t replied. Asked to pick up the paper prescription and was literally DENIED the prescription. How do you deny the father the prescription to help his 5 month old baby breathe? Spoke to the Pharmacist at CVS where the prescription was supposed to be sent and even she expressed how ridiculous this office was being for absolutely no reason. The pharmacist herself called this clinic directly on 10/14 and asked to just be read the prescription and the directions for use. She was told to call again on 10/15 and she could get it. Pharmacist calls again and this time gets told they can’t do that. Please explain why a pharmacist who hasn’t even see the patient is expressing more concern over this baby than the staff where she was actually seen? The pharmacist said and I quote “I don’t care what’s going on but a baby is sick and I need the prescription” yet she couldn’t even get it. We called so many times that if you pull your call records you’ll hear every interaction and the run around we received. Finally, someone named Crystal (from another location) was able to request for another provider to write the prescription and we were able to get it. Of course, the staff at the Monroe clinic wasn’t going to make it easy. We let them know we were on the way and the lady at the front desk simply said “sorry we close at 6pm”. This was an urgent matter and that was her response? The staff here dropped the ball REPEATEDLY and they expected us to just wait until tomorrow morning to pick up the prescription? At 6pm on 10/15 after calling over 10 times, 2 in person visits and speeding through the roads we finally got the paper rx. We are in a pandemic and instead of being helpful your staff members chose to put their pride before helping a terribly sick baby girl suffering with COVID. Of course we were going to have an attitude if you’re refusing to give us the prescription for A 5 MONTH OLD BABY WITH COVID. Please tell me how two parents are supposed to feel when their baby girl is struggling to breathe and needs her medications, please explain that to me. We have never ever dealt with such an incompetent, rude and heartless staff. Your front desk members are a reflection of the clinic. Hire better people and do better PLEASE.

At 54 with several rare medical issues, Ive had a hard time finding medical providers suitable for me. Tbh; my hopes werent high for 1st Care. Boy, WAS I EVER WRONG! Easiest scheduling EVER! ZERO judgement! Youre the SAME if you need Suboxone (dependancy treatment) or a flu shot! Dr. Okwara has an odd personality. Lol Hes a big man with a deep voice & may be intimidating but...hes just sardonic & to the point! BUT HE LISTENS! Hes not mean, as a reviewer said! Lol. (Remember; some seek drugs & hes NOT the a doctor to play games like that!) The PAs IVE seen SHOULD be MDs! Grendenetti; Norville & Dihn ARE AH-MAY-ZING! Nurses & staff Im still getting to know so I WISH I could mention ALL by name. I see Jess, Lyric, America & Paige mostly (some move between 1st Care locations.) Its VERY ethnically diverse & most speak Spanish & English. They also accommodate other non-English speaking patients. The office remains Covid clean! Most places relaxed by now but 1st Care remains ON POINT & SPOTLESS! IM SO HAPPY I found this group! Theyre GENERAL PRACTICE AND URGENT CARE & specializing in SO MANY different areas of medicine. I switched to First Care from Atrium in late November. First, I should say that the practice DOES HAVE ITS GOOD POINTS. Theres a patient care plan to help keep costs down for people who have no insurance or high deductibles. Theres also a free transportation service for people who live within a few miles & dont have any other way of getting to a doctor. All thats great.....BUT, Ive had some experiences that Ive never had at any other doctors office. Here are SOME (not all) of them: 1) The Nurse Experience - A nurse drew my blood, wasnt paying attention & realized too late that she had used the wrong type of vial & would have to do it over - and then she just LAUGHED, like it was the best joke shed heard all week. Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but she did NOT apologize or act even the LEAST bit sorry. 2) The Patient Restroom Experience - When I had to give a urine sample, I was sent to a restroom with NO SOAP. In fairness to First Care, there WAS hand sanitizer, but soap is pretty cheap, so why not keep some available for patients? 3) The Front Desk Experience - When I needed to have an ultrasound, I was told to schedule it at the front desk; however, the person at the front desk could not tell me what appointment TIMES were available. She knew which days of the week the ultrasound technicians work, but NOTHING MORE. Patients are not allowed to contact those providers directly, so I just had to pick a random time. 3) The Automatic Appointment Experience - Appointments that I knew I hadnt made just started popping up out of nowhere. After my first visit on Nov. 26th, I soon got a notification that I had an appointment on Dec 12th. I rescheduled it a couple of times, then I figured it might be something they did for medication refills, so I finally just came in. On the upside, I did have a chance to talk with a PA about some ongoing health issues, and she was knowledgeable & helpful. Then ANOTHER appointment got scheduled for me, and the same thing happened again...and again, so I finally I called to find out why. 4) The Redefining of Annual - When I called about the fact that appointments kept getting scheduled for me, with NO regard to WHEN - or even IF - I wanted (or needed) to see a doctor, the front desk person said these were just the normal, annual appointments. When I asked if an annual appointment was something people get once a year, her answer was well, technically, yes, but, technically, no. 5) The Solution - There is no way for a patient to stop having appointments scheduled automatically, or even request to have the appointments scheduled less frequently. The only thing the staff member could do was stop sending me the NOTIFICATIONS about the appointments. So apparently the appointments will keep coming, but now I just wont have any idea when they are. The staff member seemed satisfied that she had found a perfect solution, wished me a pleasant day & that was it! EVERYTHING about First Care is just.....different. Like I said its not all bad & Im sure lots of people love it, but Im starting wonder if its right for me personally.UPDATE: Shortly after I wrote this review, a gentleman from First Care called & apologized for the problems I had. Also, my next visit to the First Care after the original review was a relatively pleasant experience. The practice deserves credit for that; HOWEVER, theres a much BIGGER PROBLEM. If you enroll in the Direct Primary Care plan, YOU CANT GET OUT OF IT. (This is the plan that charges a flat fee per month, even if the patient has several visit or no visits during the month. Its almost like insurance.) I have tried for over a month to cancel the plan, with no success. I have called repeatedly, and Im always told that someone will contact me within two days. Each time, after about a week, I try again & theres never any contact. The plan is set up on automatic draft with a bank account or credit card. Once the charging starts, IT CANT BE STOPPED. Be forewarned!

This place is amazing. From the people working at the front desk, to the people helping in the back and especially the Doctor Okwara. My mother hadn’t been feeling well and we have a regular doctor at the weddington family medicine who I can say is nothing compared to the doctor here. I feel as if the people working here are angels from God. It was our first time coming here and we initially thought we had an appointment for an ultrasound scheduled for today ( Monday) but they said it was a visit for the doctor instead and we were about to leave because my mom is really sick but the lady at the front desk was more than friendly. I’m being real serious everyone in this office answers questions more than throughly. They have compassion and love for the patients here something that you rarely see in other commercialized medical clinics. If you are looking for people to care for your wellbeing and to make you feel like you do matter well come here. I will also be leaving my current doctor from weddington medicine to start coming here because I more than appreciate the way these people treated my mom.

Had a covid test on Thursday and was told results would be in my patient portal by Saturday. Nothing there on Saturday or sunday. Unfortunately, because I work in healthcare, I was forced to stay at home Monday without pay because I had not gotten the results. I made five phone calls and nobody seemed to know what was going on. Finally, found out that the results had not been read by the doctor. Several more phone calls and someone finally called me back and told me the results. It was not in my patient portal so I had to call back again. I was told I could come pick the results up. That was another 45-minute drive. I checked my patient portal and nothing wasthere. I had to call back again, which was another 20 minutes of being transferred all over the place. I will never do business here again. Very disorganized. The phone system is terrible.

Made an appointment for a covid test online. Was sent many reminders emails and texts. Showed up on time. Sat on the phone for 10 minutes trying to reach someone. Finally went inside even though I was told not to, only to find all doors locked and they were not open. A phone call would have been nice.

(Gastonia location) Had false neg test on Monday 9/13/21, worsened symptoms so returned for another test on Thurs 9/16/21 (which they charged me $130 for) and it was positive. The nurse looked at me and said Take care and handed me the results and she bailed. No recommended treatment, no advice on what to do. Then today 10/7/21 I get a call from the Monroe office from a RUDE employee, who was going on about what to use as OTC treatment, what to do if symptoms worsen.... a MONTH later.... and I said to him had it been severe I could have already passed by now and he cut me off with If youd stop talking so I can tell you why you got a phone call and then the call cut off and the jerk didnt even try to call me back. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. POOR PROFESSIONALISM. TERRIBLE PATIENT CARE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT OTHER THAN FALSE NEGATIVE RAPID TESTS :\

I was DISMAYED to learn afterI had filled out the paperwork which I I tried to submit three time online apparently did not submit. After filling out all the paperwork again and giving them my insurance card and ID, I learned that I had the choice to pay $130 or go to my primary physician to be tested. They said my insurance wouldnt cover the test! I paid the $130 which was NOT online as a possibility to expect. Then, I was sent to the parking lot to a authorized area to get my test. There was NO designated place and I waited for 20 minutes in a space that I hoped would be visible to wherever the place was to be. I feel I was taken for the $130.

Call to the administration office, the lady pick up, put me on hold, and then just hang up the phone. Very disrespectful and unprofessional. Never visit this place again! The receptionist, all of them didnt know anything and did the Doctor get his License from Walmart??? This was in Monroe NC. My appointment was at 4:00 and didnt even get out the door until 5:15!! Do not go to this clinic! I scheduled an office visit online to get a Covid test. Their website says they accept insurance. When I got to my appointment, they said I had to pay $130, even though my insurance said that Covid testing is covered 100% and the most I should pay is an office visit copay. They are trying to rip people off and take advantage of people. I’m sure they also file your insurance after they charge you the $130 upfront and get more money.

Made an appointment here last minute as most COVID testing centers did not have any available appointments. I called ahead to ensure they provided Rapid Covid Testing, I was assured this center did. Once I had driven 45 minutes to get there I was informed they in fact did not provide Rapid COVID testing. Would rate 0/5 if I could, they didn’t think about their communication at all, just couldn’t wait to get off the phone when I called to ask - maybe if you’d actually thought about my question and answered correctly then people wouldn’t be calling as much!!! Rude, inefficient and clearly wasted my time.

Please answer the phone when your patients call you,Please have h-pylori test ready at your office before you tell that you have it over the phone,Please make sure, when you send a prescription to the pharmacy, you actually send it.I chose to go to the urgent care because it is called Urgent, however the h-pylori test wasnt there, and when I went to the LabCorp to do that test, they couldnt get hold of your office, when they had a question to the doctor.Now I have to wait until Friday morning to get that test done, when I could do all of these at the Urgent care.I spent 6 hours all together to be at your office, going to the labcorp, waiting there, calling your office from there, going to the pharmacy, and all that was a waste of time and get no help.I hope you will address all these to the staff and improve.Remember, you are an Urgent care

Wouldnt recommend, it smells awful, the staff is unprofessional and they dont know how to treat patients.My little brother had to be pricked multiple times because the nurse didnt do it right the first time thus causing him unnecessary pain.My mom called and wanted a translator so they put her on hold and told her to wait only to just HANG UP. When she was rushed to Monroe hospital and transported from there to CMC Main the Drs where amazed at the work Dr. Okwara had performed on my grandmother. Brought my 5year old son here about a month ago and they misdiagnosed my son with anemia and acid reflux left me in the room for 2 hours and taking blood work for test only for the nurse to come in and say “your still here” and the dr came in didn’t apologize or anything I heard them in the hall laughing took him to his primary 48 hours later and got the correct results just horrible but misdiagnosis on my son was the worse

They wont stop calling me, Ive already told them that their service with me was terrible. Last time, they didnt even have a blood pressure gauge to check. On top of that, one of the nurses told me not to tell the doctor that I hadnt received the vaccine. COVID or they wouldnt treat me, a total lack of respect, horrible treatment and lack of ethics, they only care about charging you if you read this opinion, try not to continue bothering me with your calls and messages
