I had a robotic hysterectomy at 45 from Dr. Mendivil 11 years ago! It was my first surgery and I was terrified. He answered all of my questions and was patient and kind. He took extra time in the operating room to stay with the robotic surgery, taking out huge softball sized fibroids. Some were pedunculated meaning outside of uterus on stems I’ll call it which could twist and bleed causing a life threatening emergency. Excessive estrogen caused them to grow large. Any other dr would have rushed me to OR to cut me open to remove. He spent extra time breaking them down and pulling out through tiny slits in my abdomen. He probably remembers me. I told him to have anyone scared to call me. He’s amazing and I continue to refer people to him for over a decade later. I had rated him previously but adding another review since he popped up when I looked to make sure he’s still in Newport Beach for another referral. I’m sure he’s even more amazing 11 years later. The robotic surgery had me back to work in a couple of weeks though I waited to lift most things for a month. I didn’t take one pain med or one aspirin, nothing. The key is no real lifting until you’re healed. My review is detailed and long in an effort to help those looking for info. This Dr. is amazing!!!

I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Mendivil. I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer, Grade 1. A month later I had a hysterectomy and due to COVID was sent home the same day as my surgery. I had little to no pain, no pain meds were needed. I healed very quickly and was back to work in 3 weeks. He and his staff are lovely, caring, kind and compassionate.

Front office amazing but PA AND DOCTOR ARE TERRIBLE THEY DONT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS . If you ask anything you’re automatically dismissed . Bleeding after surgery they tell you call so we can see you and they don’t . All they say is monitor when clearly they said soaking more than a pad within the hour isn’t normal . Lack of patient care over all from MD AND PA . RIDICULOUS. So if you live far please do not go here .

Dr Mendivil is a wonderful doctor. He is kind and takes as much time with you as you need at each visit. He performed my radical hysterectomy . I was very scared about how the recovery would be. The night of my surgery I had little to no pain , no bleeding and was feeling so well I was walking the halls of the hospital visiting with all the nurses. I had only minor discomfort and that was handled by some Tylenol that evening and over the next few days. Thanks to his diagnosis and surgery the cancer I had was found very early and totally removed needing no further treatment.I am so very happy to have him taking care of me for all my future medical needs.

I am an RN and a discerning one so when I need medical care I make sure it is professional and ethical.I found that in my experience as a cancer patient by selecting this good man who happens to be an excellent doctor! He greets you with a sincere interested attitude and even looks you in the eye and shakes your hand or gives you a caring hug.He talks to you and answered your questions but also respects your decisions about his recommendations.Finding all these qualities is a rare experience in the hectic over worked medical profession. The five stars should have some more added for this young man who is worthy of gratitude. My Cancer is no longer my problemGod and Dr Mendevil have restored my health

I was very grateful for Dr. Mendivil’s expertise. He was originally referred for a second opinion by the gynecologist whom my primary care doctor referred; since he would have been able to treat my large adenoma in my uterus if it turned out to be cancerous-with a single surgery. He was very professional, compassionate and patient. He gave me the option of a partial or total hysterectomy. He indicated that since I was menopausal, I did not require those organs.Although I accept partial responsibility for my bad decision, and I greatly regret this, Dr. Mendivil could have and should have provided additional information about the potential of life long medical problem- overactive bladder. I wish Id have spoken with either of two unrelated physicians. One stated that the bladder of women slump down when it is no longer held up by the gynecologic organs. The other, an Eastern surgeon, with much confidence indicated that all our organs have necessary functions- even those we presume to be extraneous. As mine turned out, the symptom-free, large, non-cancerous fibroid, which had been incidentally located (due to my participation in a clinical trial, from which I was removed) left me with daily, life long frequent urination, as the issue of an overactive bladder.I had decided to send the doctor a recommendation, that he provide more facts to women considering hysterectomies. i dont see where I may send this to him, and I decided to inform future patients on this site. Learn from my mistake, question and consider your alternatives and make educational decisions.

Dr. Mendivil performed a radical hysterectomy for me in October 2017. In result, he had nicked my bladder and caused a fistula. He did not identify this error and neglected to informed me that this occurred. It want confirmed till 2 months later. During those 2 months I had dealt urine leakage and severe muscle spasms that required medication. For 7 months I had to live with a catheter while waiting for the inflammation to subside from the hole in my bladder before I could get my surgery in April (I am so thankful to the urology team at UCI, they did an amazing job fixing his error). I also suffered through physical and mental trauma. The trauma did not only effect me but my family as well (husband, 2 and 4 year old children). My overall observation (from my personal experience) of Dr. Mendivil is that he is overly confident and treats his patients as another tally mark in his book. He lacks compassion and care. I urge you to reconsider his services.

I have to explain this review - I really iked Dr. Medivil and I thought he did a wonderful job handling my laparoscopic hysterectomy. But I want to pass on important information he didn’t tell me. When I was trying to decide whether to have the hysterectomy, Dr. Mendivil assured me one ovary would be enough to regulate hormones and there would be no need for supplementation. Weeks after the surgery in my follow up appointment, he asked me if I was having hot flashes, and I told him I was. He was not surprised at all and prescribed a patch and told me to use it for 13 years. Now the patch is not bad to deal with, but it can be expensive!! I have paid anywhere from $50-$130 a month. I pay this until I meet my deductible each year. Now maybe it’s partly on me for not looking into it further myself. But I want to put this out there in case it helps someone else with their decision or helps someone to know what they might experience.

I highly recommend Dr. Mendivil as a gynecological oncologist. The office staff is available, knowledgeable, polite, warm and courteous. Dr. Mendivil is genuinely passionate about his work and stays current with relevant studies and developments in his field. His manner is professional, present and engaged. He’s willing to answer questions and discuss different options instead of pushing for one solution (my condition provided me options). Every aspect of my experience with his office was perfect and I will seek their services if I need them again. I wish all of my doctors provided this level of service and treatment.

Doctor Alberto A. Mendivil is the best oncologist/gynecologist.Dr. Mendivil is an extraordinary surgeon. He is very knowledgeable, professional, assertive, competent, direct and concerned for the well been of his patients. After discovering I was BRCA1 positive, I decided to have a full hysterectomy and three days later pathology report showed I had ovarian cancer CAT2. My gynecologist immediately referred me to Dr. Alberto Mendivil (a gynecologist/oncologist) for a 2nd operation to determine correct diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Mendivil explained the procedure needed with sense of urgency and honesty.Second surgery went very well. Surgery was performed on Friday 9/9/2019 and Dr. Mendivil called me on Sunday evening 9/11/19 to give me the good news that my diagnosis remained CAT2 (it could have been greater). I was so impressed and appreciative that he had called me right away - specially on a Sunday - to put me at ease. He immediately advised me the course of action, quimo will follow asap.Dr. Mendivils administrative staff and PAs are very courteous, efficient and caring. The administrative staff is been so helpful and prompt submitting my LOA paper work.I really appreciate Dr. Mendivils good disposition and honesty. No matter how busy he is, he finds the time to communicate with you and keep you up to date. This is so important when you are going thru a very challenging chapter in your life.

Nothing professional! I went because of a problem in my right ovary and because of the high CA125 test and according to without performing any type of exam it is not a concern and it only came down to the fact that it could be endometriosis! I would never return to this place apart from the fact that they didnt even give me a summary of the visit or a document!
