Weve been to a few different fertility clinics in Utah and the U is hands down the best. We had appointments with each doctor here and loved each of them. All of the nurses are SO kind, professional, and helpful. The nurses are great and prompt communicators and we often had responses to questions within just hours. The billing department was also responsive and helpful with all of our questions. The price of IVF is better here than at any of the other clinics we went to or looked into. Cannot recommend the U enough. Incredible and attentive care, great communication, transparent billing. Thank you, UCRM!

I can’t stress enough how much help I have received from Dr. Megan Link. She’s extremely knowledgeable, kind, caring, and optimistic. Every single employee I have encountered with reproductive endocrinology has provided above and beyond care for me during a time of stress and a time of unknown outcome.

Dr Megan Link is AMAZING! She is super thorough in her consultations, explaining every step, every medication, what its for, the reason for every test, just fantastic!! Im a medically quite complicated case, and she seems enthusiastic to figure out the best way to navigate all the complications! I will update as I continue this process!

My husband and I wasted over a year and a half here. The team kept suggesting IUI’s without bothering to do further testing. I have to BEG to get a scheduled appointment with my actual doctor and what I wanted to discuss at that appointment (IVF) I was told I would need to schedule a different appointment. There was no consistency of providers or staff. Excuse me when I am paying for private health care, I want to see the same nurse twice, not be passed around. Appointments were always 30 minutes behind. Spent five minutes with a new Dr. At a different clinic in town and within 5 minutes had a new diagnosis and was told IUI would never work. All the new Dr. Did was read my history. I never felt cared for at the U and warn people all the time they will just feel like a number.

To the clinic: please make sure your Google info is correct. I looked up reproductive clinics in Orem and a result popped up for a U of U reproductive clinic in Orem. Unbeknownst to me, this clinic didnt exist: the address provided was for the Parkway Health Center, but the phone number was for the reproductive clinic in Salt Lake (this one). I called the number and scheduled an initial virtual consultation. The people I spoke with over the phone seemed professional and knowledgeable, which is why Ill give the clinic three stars. The consultation cost around $250. When I tried to schedule a follow-up appointment, I found out that the Orem clinic didnt exist and Id have to come to Salt Lake for in-person treatment. This is $250 down the drain for me because 1) I dont want to travel that far for treatment and 2) if I had seen the reviews for this clinic, I never would have scheduled an initial appointment. So that was a very frustrating experience.

Truly loved being a patient here... Everyone I saw at every single appointment seemed genuinely happy to see me, even at 6am! Seriously everyone: the front desk ladies, the phlebotomists, the ultrasound techs, and assistants, the nurses, and the doctor. I know Im really just like any other patient, but they made me feel seen and that they were really rooting for my fertility journey to have a positive ending! I felt very comfortable here. And I started working with them while I lived out of state, and they worked well with me over MyChart (their patient portal system). While IVF and other fertility procedures can be very expensive, I felt like their pricing was very reasonable. I feel that Doctor Letourneau did a great job explaining the risks or every part to me while remaining supportive of my decisions. Im now waiting to see if my cycle of IVF worked, but really whether it did or it didnt, I had a great experience with this office and Doctor Letourneau. :)

They don’t care about you AT ALL. They just want your money. They are impossible to reach by phone and don’t respond to messages. I do like the actual doctor, but just about every interaction with clinic stuff is frustrating to the point of tears. Multiple times they’ve put me in the position where I’m at risk of losing a pregnancy because they refuse to refill medications in adequate quantity to get you to the date where you are required to take them. And they always say it’s your fault for waiting, even though you can try reaching out days in advance and never get a response.

I could go on all day about my experiences with this clinic. I genuinely loved all the people we worked with and had a very positive experience. My doctor was Dr. Letourneau and he was amazing. I will say... If you are coming to this clinic to see a specific doctor, you may have an issue. I think I saw every dr in this clinic (loved them all equally, and they each treated me like they have known me forever and made me so comfortable). I only saw Dr Letourneau on my first and last visit. The staff is just absolutely amazing. Dr Letourneaus nurse, Liz, is a Saint and I have never been made to feel as comfortable in a healthcare facility as she made me feel. I could reach out to her on the portal at any time of day/night and knew I would have an answer within a few hours. Even if it was Im concerned about this test result... can you ease my mind?? I did IVF, I had 14 eggs retrieved, 13 mature, 7 embryos, and now due in July. :)But, do your part of the job. You cant expect a flawless experience if you dont do the paperwork, and the follow-ups. Use the portal. Ask questions. And hopefully you will have as fantastic of an experience as I did!

This is a difficult review to write. Dr. Letourneau was nice, answered questions in good detail. When it came to testing prior to beginning treatment, it was up to us, which we had no idea, so we went with the minimal. Then it turned out that we had to get some testing done, which delayed everything and led to needing a surgery. I am allergic to an anesthesia. It was a whole ordeal with multiple hours spent explaining, talking to the staff and flat out arguing that I have an allergy. I was doubted and told that I didnt have that allergy but whatever. Which they then told me there is no option for surgery without that anesthesia so you have to be awake for the surgery. It felt like I was being punished. This was the absolute worst experience of my life, I had nightmares for weeks. I thought this was normal. Our new doctor said this is not normal, bad practice and there is definitely other anesthesia available. After continued IUIs that failed, we asked if there were any simple blood tests we could do to find any issues. They said no, and you dont need that, the only option was full, lengthy and expensive genetic testing. We said okay, and moved on to try medicated IUIs. One cycle of low dose clomid I had 7 mature follicles and about 5 almost mature. They said skip the IUI, too risky. We asked if we could just do an IVF cycle next since our sperm supply was getting low. They said yes, as well as advising that PGT-A testing for embryos would be $10,000+, but is most likely unnecessary. We went thru the IVF process, and it seemed like the clinic really inhibited the follicular production with the meds, I only had 10 follicles after ivf meds but almost 12 on just clomid?  Next step was the retrieval, and the anesthesiologist was absolutely the worst. He walked in, acted like I was crazy because of my allergy and then gave me an ultimatum. Here with me and Ill dose you with benadryl and your allergen, or we cancel the whole thing and you have to go to the hospital for a retrieval next time. I was absolutely torn because we had just used thousands of dollars worth of medicine, so we were basically bullied in to the benadryl and allergen option. It was a horrible experience and Dr. Letourneau was nowhere to be found. We ended up with only 3 embryos and all failed. It was a terrible experience overall and I regret ever going to this clinic. Our new Dr at a different clinic is amazing, kind, stated my allergy is valid, the whole ivf process is completely different, no transfers directly after a retrieval due to the hormone imbalance, PGT-A ended up only being $2000 and a simple $35 genetic blood test discovered our root problem. The U clinic is dishonest and shady, bullies and only care about the money. Their billing department is scatter brained and all over the place. So thankful we left this practice. Explore your options before coming here.

You will receive mediocre care at best, for much higher prices than elsewhere. Save yourself money and heartache and go to Utah Fertility Center, which is more modern, caring, and has better stats with AART. I had much better outcomes at Utah Fertility. Just because its associated with a university doesnt mean itll be better. If you go here, you may experience:-IVF cycle egg harvest will be of lower yield as they do not individualize hormone injections-They use old, slow freezing procedures where you will lose 40% of your precious eggs, rather then modern vitrification techniques where you only lose 5-10%-They have university trainees or students performing anesthesia. I woke up early with instruments still inside me, and in pain.-Doctors go out of town mid cycle leaving you in the care of nurses-Doctors were condescending and did not inform about potential side effects, some of which were preventable. If you complain, they will tell you that they didnt do anything that could result in a malpractice lawsuit, and that is their bar for patient care. Yikes!

I spent too many years at this clinic. While I understand they are an evidence based clinic, after 7 IUIs, 2 IVF cycles, and two failed FET with donor embryos (the only 2 we had), I would expect more than a one-line message from my doctor. They will fight you tooth and nail about adding in other treatments or testing because thats our protocol ... but the reality is, none of the treatments or testing are being paid for out of their own pockets.I was constantly following up with the nurses after no call back with time-specific medications or follow ups after ultrasounds. Several after-hours calls to the on-call doctor because no one called me with an update on my next steps. Spent $80k here and left the clinic after too many bad outcomes and no willingness to try something different.

Both good and bad experiences here. 2-4 stars, depending on the encounter. Our doctors charting seems aggressively defensive. This has eroded my trust. Following a cycle, I experienced a complication that can cascade into a life-threatening scenario unless managed appropriately. Our doctor snapped into gear. Suddenly the attentiveness was more than ever before. Duly appreciated. Here is what bothers me. The doctor asked in a tone as calm and neutral as, vanilla or chocolate? if I would like to opt for (A) same day surgery or (B) hospital admission for expectant management. Little discussion occurred prior to that - or guidance one way or the other - just a silent ultrasound. I responded gently, Hmm. I guess maybe lets wait if we can.Hence, later after that ordeal was over I was rather shocked to see that my chart read that the physician had recommended surgery and that the patient strongly wished to avoid surgery. No. No. No. That was not even remotely how the communication transpired. I did not strongly desire to avoid surgery, nor did I convey that to the doctor. I wouldve been all for surgery, if it had been presented as a necessity or even highly recommended, which it absolutely was not. This instance is not the only one in which Ive felt that the written record blatantly exceeded or diverged from the scope, tone, and/or content of what was actually communicated verbally during a visit. I see why it might be tempting for a physician to behave as described here. My feedback: honesty is paramount.

All the providers I saw here never knew anything. I did five IUIs here over two years, with a major medical condition that prevented me from being pregnant. I switched to a new doctor at Ogden Regional and he diagnosed the problem on the first visit, and I got pregnant the next cycle. Every time a provider at the U would come in for my appointment they had no idea who I was, what cycle I was on, how many IUIs I had done, or what I had tried. They didnt remember me or even look in the chart. So much wasted money and time in this clinic!!!!

While the doctor may be good, you would never know because I was unable to get through the unhelpful scheduling staff to meet him. Although we were calling for help at the time of the over the phone appointment, they proceeded to tell us we would need to reschedule since the login information was not working. They also were not prepared with the labs that we had had completed and sent over to them by the referring doctor and I was told they “didn’t have them” and we would need to schedule an appointment to have them done again.I would never recommend Dr. Hotaling or any of the doctors at Utah Medicine & Reproductive Care to anyone purely because of how I was treated by the scheduling staff. I am aware that this review is unlikely to affect their business or the way they treat patients in anyway since they are the only male fertility specialist in the state.

They cancelled my embryo transfer 5 days before it was scheduled because of covid. They just flat out cancelled it, despite all of my protestations, regardless of the fact that I had been taking medication for six weeks. This was BEFORE the governor banned unnecessary surgeries, and still would have been legally completed. This did not come from the University or the hospital, they made the decision in the clinic itself, according to my doctor. Utah Fertility Center did not cancel any cycles that had already started, they simply did not start new ones, so clearly it was not necessary to blanket cancel everything. The reason my doctor gave me was literally its dangerous to be pregnant right now, as if the rest of the women on the planet also had to get permission from a man to make decisions about her own body. They placed another barrier ONLY in front of women who already dont have control over our own reproductive choices.I had to go into the clinic a couple days later for a different reason. When the Dr. Johnstone came into the room she said let me wash my hands. I was sitting right next to the sink so I saw her quite clearly when she put soap on her hands and immediately rinsed them off, the soap and water didnt even touch all of her hands. This was when EVERYBODY was talking about washing your hands for 20 seconds and scrubbing, but she CLEARLY did not do that. Then when I had to call a couple days later because of a mild fever, a reaction to a different procedure, she said its probably covid and to get tested. At the end of March when testing was EXTREMELY limited, yeah thats going to be easy. She doesnt even wash her hands properly, and then automatically jumps to covid. It wasnt covid, but she was apparently incapable of even considering anything else.I am BEYOND disgusted with this clinic and will have nothing else to do with them or with University hospitals. I do not trust that UCRM wont do the same thing to me again, and what they did to me was worse than a failed IVF cycle. I moved my embryos to Utah Fertility Center, they took patient wishes into account and didnt blanket cancel all cycles.Added after their comment - exactly what good will that do? I already made it quite clear to me doctor how I felt about the treatment I received (or rather didnt receive). Are you going to refund the money I spent on medications for that cycle? Or ultrasounds? Or blood tests? I find that highly unlikely. So its pretty much pointless to try to talk to you people, you already completely ignored my wishes once. Also, my doctor there talked me out of doing embryo testing. Then I had miscarriage because of an abnormal embryo. So f*** all of you.

I love this clinic! Dr Peterson and his staff are amazing! They take the time to listen and dont have a standard one size fits all infertility treatment. When his nurse looked at the medication Dr Peterson prescibed for my IVF she mention Ive never seen this combination of meds before. It worked. I have one ovary, endometriosis and PCOS. I had 7 viable embryos. My daughter (who was an IVF baby with them) was born at 30 weeks. My OB said that just happens sometimes. When I went in to start the process for a second pregnancy Dr Peterson wanted to look into why my daughter came early before we went forward. Turns out I had a uterine septum and my daughter ran out of room. He removed it and my son, my second child, was born on his due date, weigh 9 pounds.

I had the worst experience here!! If I could give zero stars, I would. I am older and started seeing Dr. Berga when I was 43. The minute my husband and I met with her, she was pushing us to use a donor egg before completing any testing on us. Once she completed the testing and saw how high my AMH was, she was singing a different tune.We also got a lecture from her about how people were meant to have children in their 20’s by nature’s design. I’m not unrealistic about having children at this age, but she made us feel like we were 60-year-olds trying to have a baby. For a minute there, I thought she was going to reject us as patients, but then she gave us her sales pitch of “I can pretty much guarantee you a baby with a donor egg, which are better odds than adoption.”Not knowing any better, we gave her the benefit of the doubt and continued on with her, but it kept getting worse. I asked her what the next steps were and she sent me to speak with the financial people, who had absolutely no idea what to do with me because Dr. Berga had not given them a plan. They covered general expenses with me, but then sent me back to her again. We had yet another consult with her where she said she wanted to test my husband’s sperm and give me a Sonohystogram. So I tried making an appointment with their lab for the sperm analysis, but the lab refused to Bill our insurance, which covered the test 100 percent. They said they don’t bill any insurance and refused to work with us at all! I asked if they would bill UCRM so they could bill our insurance—they absolutely refused to do anything to help-out in the situation. This was super disappointing because one of the reasons we chose UCRM was that they accept our insurance. I finally called UFC to see if they would do the test and bill our insurance, and presto, they easily took care of it for us and billed our insurance.Next, I had a Sonohystogram with Dr. Berga. It was the most painful procedure of my life!! I was in so much pain, I almost passed-out!! All Dr. Berga did was comment on how pale I looked. I was offered no drugs or anything to make me more comfortable. After the procedure, she told me everything looked good, so I asked her what the next steps were. She again sent me to the financial people, who had no idea what to do with me because she had not created a plan. They had to have her nurse track her down, where they said she wanted to have yet another consult about the next steps. That was the last straw!! I had tried complaining to the nurse and asked her where I could escalate my complaints to, but she completely ignored my complaints and requests to escalate. I finally switched to Dr. Conway at UFC, and she and that clinic are a dream!! Best decision I ever made!!

I was recommended to this specialist clinic from my primary OB/GYN.I had a miscarry after my first pregnancy and 1 year later I was not pregnant even though we got pregnant relatively easy with our first and the miscarry. We did lots of tests which all, according to my primary OB/GYN, came back normal. After 7 months of artificial insemination and clomid with our primary OB/GYN we were recommended to U of U Health Center who also looked at the results to the tests I took, at least that’s what I was told. After 3 months of more tests, more AI’s and zero results or answers my husband and I decided it was time for a break. As a last ditch effort to get answers, about 18 months after seeing the specialists at this clinic and almost 4 years since my miscarry, we went to a second specialist. By this time we had spend thousands of dollars on infertility treatments, dealt with lots of heartache and still no answers. This second specialist looked at the original test results and found out one test I took showed I had enlarged fallopian tube, which was most likely caused by an ectopic pregnancy from my miscarry 4 years earlier. When I called to tell the office what they had missed after all this time they were more worried I was going to sue them than making things right or even an apology. Both my primary and this clinic missed this test result which is what was likely causing my infertility. I had to have surgery to remove my damaged fallopian tube.

If I could give my experience here less than one star, I would. I have endometriosis and have been looking for someone that specializes in that or something similar since my endo specialist left. When I was researching doctors, Dr. Sarah Berga came up as a specialist in PCOS (which will go hand in hand with endometriosis most of the time) so I thought she would be someone willing to help me. I called and was told I had to have a referral before I could set up an appointment which is weird but whatever. My general doctor gave me a referral and I scheduled an appointment that was a month and a half away. I kept telling myself Dr. Berga would be worth it.Appointment day rolls around & I get to the office. The receptionist is absolutely wonderful. She was so nice. Then I get called back by an MA. Shes not rude but shes not friendly. She definitely didnt make me feel comfortable. After she got some of my history, she told me a resident would be in to ask me some questions before Dr. Berga would be in. The resident comes in and appears to have very little knowledge of endometriosis and shows little interest in me telling her my medical history. Halfway through that, Dr. Berga shows up. We introduce ourselves and she asks the resident what Im here for vs. asking me, the patient. After the resident answers for me, I correct what she told Dr. Berga and tell her what I want. She doesnt even hesitate and suggests a pill that is another form of Lupron and/or Orilissa. Those not familiar with these medications; they put women into artificial menopause with side effects including hot flashes, extreme mood swings, brain fog, lack of concentration, speech issues, weight gain, hair loss, bone density loss, chronic fatigue, memory loss, even suicidal thoughts.....just to name a FEW. Even after being off said medication, the side effects can last up to 5 years after. This is something I have researched and something my endometriosis specialist (Dr. Jeff Arrington) NEVER recommended & is still against. I told her Ive heard of these options and they dont interest me. She then told me that was basically my only option or I could go to one of the Endometriosis Centers in New York or Atlanta. She failed to realize if that were an option, I wouldnt be sitting in her office. She then turns to her resident and starts having a one on one conversation with her about how she was good friends with one of the doctors at the Center for Endometriosis Care and how he charges residents $100,000 just to watch one of his surgeries, how she was head of OBGYN in Georgia for years, and a bunch of other things that did not include my care or helping me in anyway. Once she was done having her personal conversation, she told me these menopause pills were my only option because no one in the Salt Lake Valley would give me what I was asking for. I told her several times that we were on different pages before getting up and walking out of the appointment.I have been to a good amount of doctors for my endometriosis but I have never, ever had an experience like this. The ego and the lack of care were enough to make me scream. I highly suggest looking elsewhere if you are wanting quality care.....or care of any kind!

Ive been a patient at this clinic for a decade and have experienced various procedures, surgery, failed cycles, cycle cancellation, successful cycles, pregnancy loss, and term births. IVF/ICSI is a physically and mentally involved endeavor. Copious time, financial allocation, and fortitude are required. With children to show for it, it was worth it.UCRM makes impressive contributions to research and education. The technology and brain power here are top-tier; this is beyond question or argument. As a patient, I learned that whats important to investigate is what level of access youll have to those things.Economic metrics underlie everything. We could feel that we were lemmings in a sea of lemmings. The folks at UCRM are professionally cordial; I dont think they are exemplary beacons of being personal or personalized. To be fair, it doesnt seem like that is one of their goals; however, I think if they were better at it, patient satisfaction would increase.10 years ago, the being treated as a person not a widget relational aspect was better. Physicians handled monitoring and communication- mine would write comments on lab values, call with news, and personally respond to messages in the online portal. Things evolved (or perhaps devolved) into a team approach that has gone too far for comfort. Too much going through nurses. Communication gets lost in the shuffle. You have to cross your fingers and trust that your doctor is working for you behind the scenes. During any given cycle, luck may have it that this works out favorably. Or - you might not be informed that a key member of your care team is out of town; meanwhile no specific individual is in charge of your case, which leaves fine-tuning and communication vulnerable to not happening. In my substantial experience, no one at UCRM ever obsesses over things working on the first attempt...The IVF consent form has a line that reads, We have had the opportunity to ask unlimited questions about participation in the IVF program, and our questions have been fully answered to our satisfaction. I found this a stretch to sign in earnest. Reaching a physician for a medical question between the consult and egg retrieval is all but impossible. If you send a message to your doctor via the online portal, a cadre of people can read it; assistants quickly jump in and reply instead. Frankly, when I write, Dear Dr. X, and ask a non-beginner question that will steer a $5,000+ decision with high stakes implications, it aggrieves me to get back a single sentence non-answer from Jane Doe, RN.I could add many more little things; here are a few that seem noteworthy:*UCRMs stance on single embryo transfer is relatively austere. UFC has a more flexible approach to dual embryo transfer when that is simply what patients wish. Though not everyone agrees with this by any means, and certainly UCRM does not, theres an argument that twins are a desirable outcome (Gleisher & Barad, Fertility and Sterility 2008). Academic centers and private clinics will approach this issue differently, which may be a factor to consider, given Utahs fee-for-service climate.*Advice about genetic testing was cagey. I wish theyd advise more openly.*Disheartening to hear how patients with cycles already in progress were treated at the outset of Covid-19. Eek!*The lack of follow-up beyond graduation is a shame. I wish there was a follow-up process to check on womens health after many rounds of ovarian stimulation. I wish they followed up on children born with issues. I wish after a birth theyd say Congrats on your baby! or Congrats on your 5th baby!*Be up front about how many children you want. If the physician fails to ask at your first consult, interject and make it clear. We werent asked until several years in. We mightve saved upwards of 30K...The above all said, todays treatments are so advanced, if youre willing to be as aggressive as need be (potentially donor gametes/surrogacy), the probability of success at some point is high. You can build your family here. Or elsewhere.
