Do not go to a doctor here! SCRC has been the worst business I had to deal with in a very very long time. Do yourself a favor and find a different doctor so you don’t have to go through SCRC.There have been so many headaches dealing with this business that I completely regret going here and wished I would have just driven the 200+ miles to go to a different doctor. They got my husband’s email address wrong so he was unable to access documents. They got my date of birth wrong so now all of my records with them and the labs have the incorrect DOB.They billed us $230 more than the amount we were quoted. They billed us again after we already had paid our invoice. There were other annoyances as well these are just a few examples.I honestly feel bad for the doctors that work for this business because they are doing them a disservice. It sucks because all of the fertility doctors in the area are under SCRC. However, if I could go back in time I would have chosen a doctor that was not part of SCRC even if that meant I had to drive 200+ miles each time.

I unfortunately had to switch doctors when I switched jobs and the doctor I was seeing was no longer in network. Dr. Surrey is the third doctor I have worked with while on my journey. The first doctor I saw was amazing and the doctor I am currently with is amazing as well. All that to say, I can confirm that the experience I had with SCRC is not the norm of how a fertility clinic should operate. I truly believe Dr. Surrey has no business being in this field. I should have trusted my gut from the very first meeting and not wasted a year of precious time on treatment with SCRC. It was bad from my initial consultation. Dr. Surrey spent all of ten minutes with me and it was clear he never took the time to review my charts from my previous doctor. From there it did not get any better. He turned out to be condescending, dismissive, and cold. He didn’t take the time to explain treatment and spoke to me as if I were stupid when I asked follow up questions. Terrible bedside manner. Worst experience I’ve ever had with any doctor in any field. I now willingly drive an extra two hours for care as to not have to go to this office.A few notes about SCRC:When you call the office, you automatically get put through to a call center who takes a message and you have to wait for a call back so you never get a quick answer to any of your questions. The patient coordinators are very nice but flaky and often don’t call when they say they will. They will find any way to get money out of you. They charge you for EVERY little thing. I was charged for things that the other two offices never charged me for. They try to add on things to your treatment that aren’t covered by insurance and are not necessary to have a successful cycle. When I asked about these things Dr. Surrey didn’t explain in detail exactly what they were for and how they were beneficial but said he recommended them. I also received a bill months later from an out of network lab that they had never used for my lab work previously. My insurance said they should have known not to use that lab. I was responsible for the entire bill due to their carelessness. As if fertility treatment isn’t expensive enough. My ultrasounds were done by a tech who never seemed to be very thorough. I never had an ultrasound done by a doctor. Not even my first one. If you are looking for an office where you see the doctor at each visit, this is not the one. And if you have another option, DO NOT choose SCRC. I 100% would not recommend this office to anyone. There is a reason why this clinic and Dr. Surrey’s ratings are so low.

The front desk staff are awful not great at all in taking phone calls. No phone etiquette and can clearly hear their Attitude over the phone. it’s like a one way street talking to them. Like you’re trying to say and explain something he/she just won’t entertain it, got hung up 2 times and 3rd phone call went to record msg. How would a customer/patient would feel coming in there wanted to get check. When staffs are like that🤦🤔🤷

I don’t often write reviews, but every once in a while, a business impresses me so much that I have to share my experience. SCRC absolutely went above and beyond to make our fertility dreams come true. Beginning with the warm and inviting office. Situated in the heart of Beverly Hills, SCRC has the most state of the art equipment of any doctor’s office I’ve been to and everything is shiny and new. The level of care is absolutely superior to anything I’ve experienced before. The nursing staff goes out of their way for you, even sending someone to our house at 10 pm because I was nervous about my trigger shot. For someone who hates needles, knowing the nurses can jab you without pain is a major bonus. They always answer the phones and reassure your every need. The retrieval process is done in house, not at some massive hospital the way many other IVF centers do it. The transfer (also in house) was the most relaxing procedure. I was allowed to choose the music and I got to see the moment the embryo was transferred on screen! Dr. Surrey himself is an absolute magician. Our transfer worked on the first try and everything was completely seamless and fluid. 10/10 will be back for my next baby! Thank you Dr. Surrey!!

Awful experience. They never checked with insurance regarding coverage for blood work or other testing, and tried to mislead us into getting the work done at their office and just paying out of pocket. We refused, took the order to a diagnostic lab, who told us the clinic was supposed to pre authorize any analysis. Now we have to wait for them to pre authorize, while this was all supposed to be done before our initial consultation. We provided all of the insurance information weeks before the appointment. We then found out that my wife and I had already done ALL of the blood work 6 months ago, which he refused to look at. He just tried to persuade us into paying out of pocket for the SAME tests. He never looked at the previous results or gave us his opinion on them. He never referenced the testing we already paid for in preparation for this appointment. He just told us we HAD to do them again. The rest of what made this appointment traumatic is almost too difficult to put into words. The Dr explicitly said his assistant would be performing the uterus ultra sound. Then mid procedure, he bursts into the room without consultation, and decides its a good time to make jokes. This, while my wife has a large scope inside of her. He decides that saying when you are done making friends in here is an appropriate statement during a vulnerable medical procedure. This was beyond unprofessional, and felt like a completely intentional breach of responsibility. My wife has expressed how tense and awful this dr made her feel, and it infuriates me. This is not our first rodeo. My wife says she has never had someone make her feel like that during any previous medical procedure. Please avoid. They will try to swindle you at best, and traumatize you at worst.

The reason I’m not leaving a zero star review is that some of the people who work at SCRC are really nice. Shout out to Pam at the front desk and Colleen the ultrasound tech, who are the sweetest people and always made my experience very pleasant. If my review was just based on them, it would be 5 stars. That being said, a couple things happened with this clinic that were not ok. First of all, my husband’s and my insurance covers fertility treatments — half of two IVF cycles are supposed to be covered if we’re in network. We were told our insurance was in network and we were good to go. However, we were later quoted $20-25k for one IVF cycle because their in-house lab (which was the bulk of the cost) doesn’t take insurance at all. Wish we’d known that up front, as it led us to switch clinics. At the new clinic, I was told by my new doctor that I should be getting a saline ultrasound once a year while doing fertility treatments. SCRC never bothered to give me one before aggressively pushing me to start IVF. I had the saline ultrasound a couple days ago and as it turns out, there’s a polyp in my uterus that I have to have surgically removed. It’s possible that this is the reason I haven’t been getting pregnant all along, but there’s no way to know how long the polyp has been there because SCRC never bothered to check. Failing to give me that basic test BEFORE I had my first IUI (let alone before pushing me to move onto IVF!) was me a huge waste of time and was inexcusable. Please, SCRC, do better for your future patients!!

My experience here is admittedly limited. I was only seen a couple of times before my husband deployed and we were no longer able to try to conceive, so I didnt go back. However the lack of customer service in their billing department is whats lead me to leave a review at all. We received a bill for my husband for a consult with the dr. However my husband was never seen by this dr, never even spoke with him. So I dont see how he can be charged with a consult. Im happy to pay the bill if its justified but Ive tried calling for 5+ months now to get some answers about this bill before I drop that much $$. And they never ever answer. Ive left countless messages and they never ever call back. They keep sending the bill, but Im reluctant to pay it until I know for sure we owe it. But they dont seem willing to answer my questions. Personally, Id find a clinic with a more helpful, transparent billing department.

My wife and I spent two years trying to conceive with no luck before being referred to SCRC. Our experience started off great. Dr. Alexander comped our initial consultation due to our limited budget, had an amazing beside manner, and she was the first doctor to finally diagnose my wifes endometriosis. Unfortunately, before we could get much farther along in the process, Dr. Alexander left the Santa Barbara office. Dr. Rychlik took over our case, and this is when things started to go downhill. First of all, he required us to start over and charged us $250 for the initial consultation despite the fact that we had already been through all of that. He said that this is how he does things and he wanted to see everything for himself. This should have been the first red flag, but having been frustrated for so long, we charged ahead. After two rounds of IVF, we ended up with one good embryo and successfully became pregnant. At week four, Dr. Rychlik told us that due to his methods and process, we could now consider the pregnancy to be good to go. As a result, we mistakenly let him tell us the sex and began telling family members the good news. Well, two weeks later he took my wife off of almost all of her hormones without any blood tests. Three days later we had a miscarriage. We went in at 2pm on the day she started bleeding, and he assured us everything was fine. By 10pm we were in the emergency room having a miscarriage, and Dr. Rychlik never returned three calls to his office that evening. Nor did he call us in the hospital or come in to see us. We did hear from him after we complained about or experience while getting a second opinion at the Beverly Hills office, but at that point it was too little too late. Never did we experience any empathy whatsoever, but rather we were left feeling devastated with no hopes of trying again from a financial standpoint. We have consulted with three other doctors since that time (including one of the doctors at SCRCs Beverly Hills office), and all of them said without hesitation that they would have done things differently with the hormones based on my wifes endometriosis. Dr. Rychlik seems to have a script that he always follows, which may not always work out for everyone. He has a cavalier attitude about his process and every other doctor we have discussed our case with have basically concluded that he was careless. The bottom line is, if things dont go well for you I wouldnt expect any compassion.

I had my eggs frozen for a family member at the Santa Barbara Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC). The whole process was efficient and I found all of the staff to be compassionate, hard working, and knowledgeable. Dr. Rychlik thoroughly explained the process at the beginning and kept me informed as to how my body was reacting to the hormones and other shots along the way. The staff was totally willing to work around my schedule, which was helpful because I live about an hour from the facility. While I found the shots to be really painful, I was able to administer them all, and by the end I was pretty good at it! I did have a few particularly emotional days because of the hormones, but that wasn’t a reflection on SCRC. The last though thing about the process was how bloated I felt due to the size of the follicles. I had to use the restroom all the time, sleeping in my back was uncomfortable, and my skin felt really tight for about two weeks. I was definitely looking forward to the extraction so I could stop the injections and go back to normal! The extraction was super quick and easy, and about 10 days after the procedure, my follicles reduced to their normal size. 66% of the eggs extracted were viable and frozen. Now the eggs are being stored and can be retrieved by my family member at any time. All in all, SDRC made a tough, painful process more manageable. I felt supported the entire way. Thanks, SDRC!

This was a horrible visit. I’ve been active duty military for 19 years and the confidentiality and concern for the patient wasn’t considered for me by one of the nurses there. In fact if you are a military member or vet I wouldn’t recommend this place. It was a very traumatic experience. I’ve already filed two separate complaints with outside entities, hopefully what happened for me doesn’t happen to other patients.

Do not use them. Youll never see the doctor, the nurses are terrible, and youll have to use Google to find out key information about the shots you have to give yourself. At the worst, youll be like us: be given the WRONG information, lose $40,000, and lose your baby. Then the doctor wont even call you himself to give you the news, hell have his nurse do it.
