It is hard to put into words the beautiful, transformative experience I had with Kayti and Amy birthing my second child at home - it was truly magical! After having a c-section with my first and struggling to breastfeed, I was determined to have a VBAC this time around. I came to Kayti while 20 weeks along and knew instantly that she would be the perfect fit for me. She truly listens and for the first time with a provider, I felt empowered to make informed decisions. It really felt like we were a team. I am so grateful for what Kayti does and that pregnant mamas in San Diego have the opportunity to have a beautiful birth at home.

Just Wow. Couldnt have dreamed of a more complete, compassionate and safe first birth at home with Kayti! She and Amy were everything wed hoped for and more. We were referred by our OB friend who raved about her homebirth with Kayti, so we knew were in good hands. What a difference each encouraging prenatal and postpartum visit made to the hearts of two anxious first time parents. Her presence during birth made both of us feel safe and empowered, and probably made my birth faster and less painful too - because I was in such a safe, loving headspace at home with a midwife I completed trusted.BirthLocal has got to be the #1 midwife team in SD, I only wish every mama could have them!

We had the pleasure of working with the Kayti for our recent home birth. From our very first appointment, we felt welcomed and cared for. Her professionalism and expertise were evident in every interaction, and we felt confident and supported throughout the entire pregnancy journey. What we appreciated most about Kayti was her emphasis on personalized care. She took the time to get to know my wife and her needs, and tailored the services accordingly. She was always available to answer questions and provide guidance. When it came time for our home birth, I was grateful to have Kayti by my wifes side. Along with her outstanding assistant, she created a calm and supportive environment that helped us feel comfortable and empowered throughout the entire process. We couldnt have asked for a better experience, and I would highly recommend Kayti to anyone seeking exceptional care.

I wish everyone could experience midwifery care when pregnant because it is life changing— with Kayti you will be truly listened to and cared for deeply. She goes above and beyond in all of her appointments (and in birth) to provide you with exactly what you need- whether that be lab work, prenatal education, a shoulder to cry on, or even bodywork. She is deeply committed to continually improving her clinical skills, practice, and overall approach. She is also very inclusive of your partner in everything and cares for the family as a whole. Thank you Kayti for all you do as a midwife!

I’ve known Kayti for years through the local birth centered community. So when I recently learned that I was pregnant, she was the first person I thought of to help me deliver the baby! Her prenatal care was excellent! She listens closely, encouraged me to ask any and all questions and never felt rushed! With every decision that arose Kayti’s guidance was from a loving but neutral place: she provided evidence based medical information and encouraged me and my husband to follow our own inner knowing. We both felt empowered, safe and supported by Kayti and the support team that she brought to our beautiful, smooth homebirth! My parents were with us as well, and everyone remarked at how competent and caring Kayti is! I felt 100% confident in placing my well being and my newborn sons well being in Kayti’s trustworthy hands! She has a great attitude, a great personality and we really felt accepted and empowered by her loving guidance and expert care! I highly recommend Birth Local and Kayti to anyone interested in having a smooth and healthy birth journey!

My husband and I were so blessed to have Kayti as one of our midwives for the birth of our first child two years ago. Kayti is extremely knowledgeable and provides personal, attentive care at each and every visit. Halfway through my pregnancy, Kayti already felt like family! I felt so genuinely cared for and supported throughout pregnancy, birth AND postpartum. During birth, she held space, provided encouraging words at just the right time (and of course, at my prior request), was gentle and all around amazing. That is whats so amazing about having a home birth, you are truly listened to at every step of the experience. Kayti ensured that my husband and I both felt prepared, physically and emotionally for our homebirth. She provided amazing resources during pregnancy and postpartum. Even now, years later, she gets moms together to meet regularly, building a community, which is SO important. Kayti will without a doubt be a part of our birth team in the future. We love her dearly!Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, Kayti does Well Women Checks/Exams so you dont have to be pregnant to even go see her! Go build a relationship with her now so when the time comes and you get pregnant, you already have a trusted, caring midwife!

Cannot speak highly enough of Birth Local Midwifery. Kayti walked my husband and i through my first pregnancy from conception through to 6 weeks post partum & her service is so much more than obstetrics care. Kayti spent intentional time with us every appointment, educated us in order to make informed decisions during our home birth & post partum, and ushered our baby boy into the world seamlessly. Kayti is someone who we now treasure in our life as she played such a pivotal role in us growing our family. I would refer any growing family to Birth Local for a high touch, professional, expert, and intentional level of care before, during, and after delivery.

Katie holds such a special place in my heart. She was a strong support to me during both my pregnancy and birth, and continues to be supportive as I raise my daughter. I absolutely loved my prenatal sessions with Katie. She provided her knowledge and advice on areas of concern or curiosity, while encouraging me to trust my body to let me know what it needs. She is easy to connect with and makes me feel as if anything I share with her will be met with understanding and compassion. My birth was quick and intense. Katie was able to recognize that my daughter was coming soon just by listening to a contraction over the phone, and calmly walked my husband though preparing for baby’s arrival in the event that she couldn’t get there fast enough (luckily, she did!). My husband felt a great relief when she walked through the door and hugged him, reassuring him that everything was going to be okay. Katie helped guide me through different positions during my labor to help me manage the pain. Immediately following the birth of my daughter I had a retained placenta and was hemorrhaging badly. Katie acted quickly and skillful to manually remove my placenta and contract my uterus, ultimately saving my life. I will forever be grateful to have had such a competent midwife at my side during this scary time. Had I been in a different setting with a different practitioner I may have felt traumatized afterwards, but with the loving care of Katie I just felt relieved and thankful. I appreciated that she gave me the option to have extra time to bond with my baby or get my tears stitched right away following the birth. Now, two years later, Katie continues to support me though my mothering journey through connecting me with other like minded mothers, and keeping me informed about ways to keep my postpartum body thriving. I feel so blessed to receive her friendship and excited to be starting my second pregnancy journey with Katie by my side.

My family and I have seen Kayti through two births.  With our first child, Kayti (along with the team of M2M) guided us through a perfect 22-hour home birth.  Holistic is a buzz word thrown around in a way that I dont feel completely gives justice to the complete and loving medical care we received.  Kayti is interested in ensuring that our whole family is physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.  Her passion and knowledge shines through in the thorough prenatal visits all the way to the continued check-ins postpartum.  No matter how small or big a question, Kayti was always quick to respond by text or call away - it doesnt matter if its a weekend or holiday.  Kayti is not only very knowledgable in so many aspects of womens health, but extremely intuitive.  In the three intervening years between pregnancies, Kayti continued to be a part of our lives.  So, it was no question that after the second pregnancy, we were going to choose Kayti as our midwife again.  And we were so lucky to have her because it was another perfect home birth (this time in the tub).  Madeline, her apprentice, was a wonderful addition to the team.  For me, a huge part of getting through and embracing the contractions of labor was mental.  I believe the strength of knowing that I was in competent hands, well-informed of expectations, and empowered by this support was critical.  While I recognize that there are many uncontrollable physical situations that can arise, I was so very lucky these were not an issue for us.  There is simply no comparison to the care you might get through a hospital like Kaiser (which I have).  I had attended some prenatal appointments through Kaiser for major labs since they were covered by my insurance.  While the Kaiser midwives are nice enough, they did not have the time or capacity to provide the level of on-call, out-of-this-world excellent support and love that Kayti gives.

We interviewed Kayti and her team 5 years ago when pregnant with our first child. 3 kiddos later and she’s been at every birth.Kayti is nurturing, fun, funny and when she listens she SEES you. During our first birth she intuitively knew to have my husband get in the birth tub with me which was a game changer for my birth experience. During my second birth she arrived quickly and could immediately tell things were progressing quickly. My 3rd birth ended up being in the hospital where she worked with me, advocated for me, politely but firmly pushed back on poor judgment a nurse was making and ultimately just honored my birth choices.Kayti is a beautiful spirit, an intuitive midwife and a blessing to have by your side in labor and birth.

She made the whole experience so incredible. Our birth story is truly unique and special and Im so glad that she was a part of it.The postpartum care my baby and I received was amazing. I had the wonderful experience of giving birth with the guidance of Kayti twice. I am in awe with her (inner) wisdom, her professional knowledge, her love and care, her patience and her ability to meet people energetically where they are at. I greatly appreciate her approach to communication and her desire to hold space for a pregnant woman and all of her questions, wishes, hopes and fears. I always felt so held and heard by Kayti and I loved that she always had alternative and more natural ways of helping me ease physical discomforts during my pregnancy. My husband and I greatly appreciated how she would bring awareness to both the mental wellbeing of mothers and fathers and I loved that she also always checked in with my husband during our time with her. I cannot say enough how much I loved being with Kayti. When I looked at her, I saw all my needs reflected in her eyes and I believe that she saw my babies and their needs before they were born by looking into my eyes and listening to my voice. I am so thankful for the bond I was able to grow with my midwife and I am so grateful that she taught me to listen to my inner voice and reminded me that while growing and birthing a baby, I was also growing and birthing myself as a mother.

When I contacted Kayti, I had emailed about 25 midwives in all of San Diego. In our culture the men arent pressent for the birth and I needed someone who was supportive of that. In all of San Diego county only 3 said theyd be okay with that.We interviewed the 3 midwives and Kayti was our jam. She was so supportive in so many ways. My health was having a lot of issues. Kayti was there when I needed her and she was not only gentle, but understanding and super empathetic to my plight. I couldnt recommend Kayti more. Shes amazing and I couldnt have asked for a better midwife. When it came time for birth we didnt know if it would be a fast or slow labor and she was super prepared. When I did give birth and my baby had some temperature regulating issues she knows right away to have the baby on me and my husband for skin to skin and then within a couple of hours she was fine.

It was a night and day comparison from the hospital birth (with medical midwives) I had with my first baby. The care I received with her and her team is beyond any prenatal and birth care youll receive anywhere else. The time, energy and intention they provide is truly what every mother should have. I will be forever grateful to Kayti! When I decided on a homebirth, I was halfway through my pregnancy with my 4th child and up until then had always blindly trusted my providers and just did as I was told. Kayti taught me to stop taking orders and to take charge of my body. She was there for me every step of the way, as I embarked on my life changing journey. I am a completely new woman today, full of a confidence I never knew I had inside of me. I had a very long labor (24 hours active labor) and she was there with me, encouraging me and helping me through it all. She took excellent care of me and my baby, both during my pregnancy and during our postpartum period. If I could change anything, it would be to have started care with her on day 1 and not half way though my pregnancy. 5 years later and I still consider her a friend and will always be grateful to her and in awe of her.

After I gave birth I went through an episode of sadness that never left me since (my daughter was born in 06/2018). I went to my first session with Kayti and Madeline this week. Looking for someone to talk to and someone available to hear me. They were fantastic. For a first session I got plenty of suggestions, tips and tools. This is something I think everyone should invest in. Talking to someone neutral without judgement it really makes a difference than talking to a family member. At the end of the session I left with a written recap of what we talk. Very useful. Thanks.

Ive had the pleasure of interacting with Kayti in multiple scenarios including home birth. In my humble opinion, being a midwife isnt just how you are at a birth. It takes empathy, patience, evolution in thought, openness to criticism, the ability to change and a true passion for this work. It is not just a job you can do and just go home or a task you learn steps to one time and be that way all the time. Ive seen her engage in dialogue and ask questions that many would steer away from. She goes to classes and events that arent necessarily required to be a midwife. She seeks ways that she can change, learn and evolve outside of the minimum requirements. All of this boils down to ways that she can better support families. Because yes, you need to know the basics and ins and outs of birth but a good midwife is more than that. I see she gets that. That is why I can feel justified in highly recommending Kayti.

Kayti helped me bring my youngest baby into the world. I truly believe that her instincts and communication about the baby bring in a non-optimum position helped both of us realize the same and readjust. He was born quickly thereafter, safe and sound. Also Im gonna assume only ladies have made it this far into the review; so I will candidly say that I had my first painless pap smear in her office. We went in for a group interview with Mother to Mother midwifery and we knew right away after meeting kayti we wanted her as our midwife. We were not wrong. During our whole pregnancy we met with her for almost every visit. She ensured the atmosphere was warm, light hearted, comfortable and open. She not only had the presence of a warm nurturing woman but also competent and intelligent in her field of practice. There was never a doubt that she would be able to take care of every aspect of labor and delivery. As for the actually labor and delivery, words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards her. I unfortunately did not have her there the whole labor. But she showed up just when I neede her. At the end of my long labor I was losing heart. The moment she came in regathered all my strength. Her presence was grounded, strong yet gentle and nurturing. She knew exactly what I needed through the pushing phase of labor. She was active and hands on, wiping my forehead to keep me relaxed and cool, massaging my back, positioning me correctly. My little guy was posterior and she did something with the alignment of my back and he moved and my water broke. Basically any problem she spotted she did something to help the natural process of labor along. Once my babies head crowded he “turtled” back in and got stuck. Kayti and my other midwife took over the situation with calm urgency. It was traumatic but would have been far worse if kayti wasn’t there by my side making sure I remained calm. The post partum care was also exceptional, she really spent time at our house the couple times she visited after delivery talking with us and making sure everything thing was taken care of. We truly did develop a beautiful relationship with her, that continues to this day. There is no one else I would trust now to deliver another on of my babies.

When I think about 2021 I think about my birth. When I think about my birth I think about my midwives. Josiah and I knew we were pregnant at four weeks. We knew right away that we wanted to have a home birth. Every step along the journey we weren’t alone. We had questions, fears, excitement and so much to learn. The team from Birth Local were instrumental at educating and encouraging us for nine months. My teammate was able to be side by side with me for all the appointments. Every appointment was an hour minimum and we were always genuinely heard. Little concerns were treated with respect and an open mind. I have interpreted for countless obgyn, ultrasound, blood test appointments and not to mention actual birth. Never have I seen such care like I did with my mighty team of three. They each uniquely brought something to the table. I was treated as a mom from day one. We both felt seen. My husband felt heard and respected at our child’s prenatal appointments. I ended up at the hospital for delivery after three long days of them trying everything they could to help me to naturally induce after my water had broken. We were all devastated. Our doula from The Woman’s Journey had prayed and met with us constantly along those months too. She massaged me and then helped me to repack my hospital bag knowing what I truly was going to need. My husband and I were shocked by the level of freedom we were given. Together we all had a common goal: healthy mom, healthy dad, healthy baby. The doctors and nurses worked endlessly to help my daughter come as naturally as possible. Honestly there is only so much you can allow in a hospital. After three more days that’s when the serious medicine was required and the cesarian had to take place. My midwives were still actively involved. They lost sleep over us. They prayed for us. I could not have thrived without their guidance. Becoming a parent requires a lot of research, tears, patience and asking for help. My team was there for us. They became family. I have never experienced an advocate that fought for my freedoms and desires until that week. Three days after begging to go home we were released. Then as we got home our midwives were there to check on us three yet again. They got busy working to check my baby’s scars, swelling, weight, height, strength, eye gaze, flexibility, responses to us, umbilical cord, my scar, and I’m sure so much more. Then they checked all things breast feeding related. Not to mention they made sure we had support and food. They came back to check every week and then a few weeks later all until she was two months. We sat and laughed and shared sweet memories. While other times we cried and processed the disappointment and trauma that happened along the way. They were worth every penny and more of our money. We felt so thankful that they got to help us become parents. I will never forget introducing them to Charis Aslynn and saying, “Here is who you’ve been waiting to finally meet.” and hearing in response ‘No, I’ve been waiting to watch you two become the parents you were meant to be.’ We would love to foster, adopt and one day have more babies if we are supposed to. That being said I am not afraid to try for a successful home birth vbac. Even if it didn’t work out that way, the before and after care of community midwives and doulas would be incredibly worth it.
