I’ve read some poor reviews on here so I wanted to make sure and chime in. I have been seeing Dr Defoto for many years. After living outside of LA for 6 years I recently came back last year and have been to the office three times since being back. Every visit continues to be perfect. All staff are always very friendly and punctual, and Defoto is awesome as always.

I saw Sergio Hurtado February 3rd, 2022 because of an injury I had December 3rd, 2021. He had been my primary for about a year. I was already healing from a significant injury before having a second one.The new injury was during a massage session. The injury tore my linea alba and rectus sheathes off my chest wall, herniated two organs, caused nerve damage, traumatized my diaphragm and created a condition called MALs, or celiac artery compression which almost completely shut down my GI. It took me over a year to get all these diagnoses.Reviewing Hurtados notes It appears he wasnt even paying attention. He notes onset of abdomen injury was gradual 1 year ago when I told him it happened last year, In December 2021. He notes pain is intermittent when working out which is incorrect since I hadnt been able to work out in a decade because of the previous injury, and pain was not intermittent, it was constant. He notes my chiropractor injured my brachial plexus, which is not what I told him, I had a brachial plexus avulsion from the first injury in 2010, and the subsequent notes about my treatment are also wrong. He was very slow referring me to treatment and I had to beg 3 times to get him to refer me to a surgeon. He finally referred me to a knee, ankle, shoulder specialist, again like he wasnt paying attention or cared at all, or deliberately sent me to the wrong surgeon out of spite.Through 2022 I would visit the ER 3 more times, and about 15 other Dr.s and specialists who all labeled me as panicky, anxious and said my symptoms were psychosomatic. I had difficulty breathing, speaking, couldnt eat or drink anything for days, couldnt sleep or have a bowel movement, and was suffering overwhelming pain and brain fog. At the end of 2022, and early January 2023 I finally met the Dr.s who gave me the tests to confirmed a diagnosis for MALS. Nerve damage, trauma to the diaphragm, shutdown of the GI. And received diagnosis for a diastasis recti, rectus sheathes torn from chest wall, two herniations, and damage to my rectus abdominis muscle.Unfortunately, because of lack of timely care from Hurtado, Mens Health, and mental health stigma leading to profiling and discrimination from many of the Dr.s and surgeons I saw, I did not receive adequate, humane, or timely care. The soft tissue component of the injury worsened, tore across my chest wall, shut down my obliques and transversus muscles and caused so much global laxity through my whole body that I now have problems just standing and walking. I also felt my skin slowly rip off of the fascia layer its attached to, because that layer was ripping open over my chest and abdomen. This was excruciatingly painful, and now my skin is loose and unnaturally stretchy everywhere in my body. It also still hurts to sit, lay down and lean against objects like there is a lot of scabby sandpapery wounds under my skin.I had a serious injury that had a small window to be cared for and treated to heal from. It needed help, in early February. Timely care is crucial to be able to identify and fix injury. Now my injuries may be irreparable. I had almost completed a 10 year journey to fix my prior injury, and I feel robbed of that, getting my career back on track, getting my fitness goals back.I dont know what else to say. I lost 3 years of my life fighting for humane treatment. This is where it started. This is where it shouldve ended.

It’s 0415 and I’m writing this as I’m walking out of my appointment which was supposed to be at 0320. What is point of having an appointment system, sending out multiple reminder emails, asking me to fill out forms online with the pretext of not having to wait when I actually arrive for my appointment - if you’re going to keep me waiting for almost an hour!I just moved back in to town, and thought I could find a primary care physician here with Charles Estrella. I wanted to leave at multiple points during this, what is, to be frank, an absolutely insulting experience - but I gave SoCal MMG and the doctor the benefit of the doubt. But then again, I realized, what’s the point of trying to find a PCP, with whom I want to build a respectful and trusting doctor-patient relationship if it’s starting out in such a disappointing and disrespectful manner.Yeah, we’ve all got MDs and PhDs - I took hours off important work I was doing today to make this appointment only to get treated like I’m at a free clinic. To SoCal MMG - if you’ve actually got an genuine reason to keep a person, let alone a patient, waiting for an hour, I’d love to hear it. You’ve got my email and number on file.Edit 8/10/2023After a 105 deg fever that lasted over a week, directly following this incident, and a visit to the ER - still no word from this organization about their piss poor bedside manners. Caveat emptor, I guess.

My only thought is that at one point in these people’s jobs or professional careers..they experience what it’s like to be so sick that you can’t get out of bed, walk or make a meal, or take care of them selves! I’ve been struggling for so long and I thought this place would be better than cedars or Kaiser. It just seems anytime I advocate for my self, it seems to be an issue. I am just so tired of being sick. At this point I just want to give up!

This has to do with the valet area. I realized when I went to my eye doctor, I didn’t have any cash to give them a tip. They had removed the ATM machine, and I asked if I could have money to tip the valet when I paid my parking bill. They said that they don’t do that.I went to the little diner in there and asked them if I could buy something and get a tip payout and they said they don’t do that. I went to the pharmacy and they told me there was a bank across the street. I’m currently walking with a cane so it was quite an effort to get across Sunset Boulevard on a busy rush-hour evening and get back to them.I went to the Comerica bank and withdrew $800 from the ATM. I went to the teller and asked to break one to 20s into a 10 and two fives and he said that he couldn’t do that unless I had an account there. I said I just withdrew money from your ATM and I just wanted one $20 bill broken. The manager came over and said the same thing. I had to open an account in order for them to break a 20. Do not bank anyone please. I walked back, bought soda in the diner and then tip the valet.

This place is great for your basics. They have STI testing and treatment down. However, when it comes to anything else that’s when it’s a problem.I usually see Dr. Hurtado. He’s cool, very in n out vibe - I get it we all just wanna go home. It’s efficient.I saw Dr. Tran today because I’ve had a 103 fever for 3 days now. It went down to 100 while I was there. He had very poor bedside manners. Told me I didn’t have a fever and I could even go back to work if I just wear a mask. He made me feel like I was being dramatic for coming into the office to be seen. Dismissive really. He ordered Covid and Flu tests. Both were negative so I asked if he can order a strep test before I’m sent home with no answers or treatment. It came back positive. Do better girl.

Do you like doctors who just want to run down a checklist of questions in order to kick you out as soon as possible? Do you like waiting over a month to find out x-ray results when dealing with pain? And do you like having to call the doctors office repeatedly to find out why the x-ray results haven’t come in while being told you’ll get a call back later that day with an answer, but then you never get called back? If you answered yes, this doctors office is great for you. (At the time of this review, I still haven’t gotten my x-ray results back by the way).

I called 2 weeks later to remind her as I urgently needed to see a doctor while suffering my illness. I was trying to explain to her that I use to go there a few years back when this nice guy was the receptionist and approved the same insurance I have which is a PPO open network and taken everywhere. she hung up on me and didn’t bother to run my information since she didn’t have time to do an extra step for a patient.,

Few red flags about this clinic:- Receptionist seemed over it and uninterested in my presence- Doctor also seemed over-it and only had to say that my BMI is high (I work out 4 days week)- Nurse who drew my blood hurt me; I had never experienced pain getting blood drawn before- Nurse scheduled me for an appt no one had a clue what for- Nurse called day of my appt to ask me why I was coming in (how do they not know?)- When I show up, they say its too soon to be seen even though they couldve told me that when they called me- Nurse was not accommodating to how I would like to be treated (which I have been treated this way before)- Nurse (who is a woman) tried to educate me on basic mens health like I am not a man who has come in for 10+ years to get routine visits, screenings, and follow-ups. (to be fair, at this point I was just annoyed at everything)- When I messaged doctor about my experience and asked what other clinics I can go to instead, he did not respond to my message. Its been about two weeks. My general conclusion: This clinic has a huge management issue and does not care about public health. They need new leadership and stronger policy about whats acceptable service and care.

My doctor is great, the people I have spoken to in person at the location are great, the people who answer the phones are just awful and borderline evil. No respect, won’t let you talk, don’t listen to you, make assumptions, and straight up lie. I called to setup an appt because I may have an emergency and said many times I would pay out of pocket in necessary, two different “ladies” went out of their way to make me feel like that wasn’t even an option. When it’s your life and your health on the line to be treated this way in beyond unacceptable. I just started going here and chose this place because I expected to be treated fairly and like a human being but I’m getting the impression that that wholly depends on who you talk to. I don’t want to but I may have to find another GP. If I can’t even setup an appt that is a VERY big problem. Very disturbing.

The non medical staff are very friendly and kind. Veronica who sets your next appointment is so sweet and kind. She said WELOME to Mens Health when I told her I was a new patient, just like they do in EU.THIS IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRD....please read to end. However I have had to suspend further dealings with MHF pending explanation why they failed to process my 2nd blood draw - which had to be scheduled because the 1st draw the desired results where not delivered. I have never had this happen at any of my previous MDs. I went for a follow up draw because they failed to completely process my labs or didnt write complete order. I rearranged my office calendar & squeezed in an 8:20 on Monday morning so I could dash off to my office. (I work on average 55-60 hours per week.) I arrived early. Only two of us waiting. The half dozen persons who came in after me were all taken right away while I waited. (Got to me at 9a which caused cascading destruction to the rest of my morning calendar)THIS IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRDER, Please read through to End...Finally they called me but as I hearing loss in my right ear & the door was to my right in my periferal vision I didnt hear or see anyone. Finally the patient on my left (good ear) said are you Benjamin? And pointed to the door then I jumped up when I realized that I had been called & saw a beautifully dress African American Doctor who had called me. (As I work in Civil Rights I was so happy to see more diversity in MHF). Her voice is softer and warmer, not hi pitched & LOUD like the medical staff who called all the others patients as if they were calling school kids in from recess!THIS IS WHERE IT GETS REALLY WEIRD...She said (as if I she were addressing criminal defendant like you see on TV...) ARE You Benjamin?I said yesShe said Then WHY didnt you answer Me? She demanded.I explained my hearing lossShe persisted ARE you Benjamin?I confirmed. Then she introduced hers self but I couldnt hear exactly what she said in her warm and soft voice. Then she left me in room 7 where the tech drew my blood from me & left the door open on her way out. Then, as the nurse was finishing up the doctor appear in the hall and motion for her to come out into the hall, where they had a short discussion and Dr was shot a few unhappy glances at me....Even WEIRDER...My Dr. Tri Trang called me to provide the results and realized the labs were never processed as he ordered. I asked to be provided an explanation why this failure, as it seems very serious to take Blood from me only for the draw to be discarded. MHF has ignored my request for explaination. They have called me several times to reschedule the draw, each time I call back very nicely asking for an explanation....No response...I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN Before over the past 5 decades I have been seeing MDs.I am forced to suspend my relationship with MHF, unless someone at a high level is prepared to provide a truthful and complete explanation, I hope Dr Mills will intervene since they have not been forthcoming at the office. There are other issues that I feel Dr. Mills should be aware of, but dont wish to disclose here.I am on vacation in the Mediterranean for the next 4 week and can see an MD here in Monaco if needed. Please MHF do not call my phone until I return to the States after 9/28. Merci & A bientôt mes amis,Benjamin

As much as I hope to rate this place high, I cant.To start with, I did have great experience with Dr. Michael Seibert while he was there. Unfortunately, he moved to Florida due to family reasons. My experience with Dr. TELLALIAN was really bad. I saw him three times and every time, he looked tired and absent minded. In my most recent visit, I scheduled an annual physical for a whole hour and it took him only 10-15 min to simply check my pulses and other vital signs. It definitely didnt meet my expectation of a thorough annual physical. My least favorite part of the practice is their billing department. There were always extra fees after my copay, unexplained and unclear why I received them.I want to love this place because I think they are doing great work for the LGBTQ community. However, they really need to improve their service from the providers and the billing department.

I just. I don’t know. First let me say my doctor here is fantastic. He is responsive and I enjoy seeing him. He takes good care of me. He is 5 stars. The front staff used to be fun and cute and helpful but their must have been some reorganization in their office a couple of years ago because it’s just not easy to get anyone who can really help.I tried for several weeks to get an appointment. Disaster. She hung up on me. Twice. Another time someone was to callback. But didn’t of course. And honestly sometimes when I call, they just aren’t friendly. It’s like either a little ditzy or just “gay attitude” like they are totally bothered to even have to take a call.I need a blood work test, but of course whoever answers the phone can’t help with that and I have to send a separate message to the doctor, who I imagine is busy treating patients. So there’s my two cents. Love my doctor. The rest of it is just so-so, which is terrible because they used to be so wonderful to interact with.***Updated to 4 stars. The pharmacy and everyone I’ve spoken to there are always legit, and I appreciate the response back from SCMM***

The most disorganized medical office I have ever experienced. Their protocols are ridiculously complicated and forget about getting a call back. First occasion was trying to schedule a pre-op screening exam. The scheduler forgot to tell me that they dont take new patients for these appointments. A first. So back and worth we went to finally discover that. Part 2. Just tried to schedule an appointment for a hormone therapy replacement and was asked if I had a PCP contact on my insurance cards. WHAT? Another protocol. Let a message for the bills coordinator to call back but of course, you might have guessed, no return phone call. Look at the 2.5 star rating and that should tell you what you need to know. So if you want to be frustrated by inane protocols that dont make sense and no call back, by all means, proceed.

I have been a patient of Dr. DeFotos for more than 10 years. The first 5 years I found him to be caring and attentive. Ive not had any serious medical issues, but it was nice to know he was there if I needed a medical professional. In 2016, I had a chronic sore throat and an re-occurring low fever that lasted for almost a month. I had difficulty making an appointment with Dr. Defoto, and his staff said I could only see a nurse. The 20-something year old nurse they scheduled me with had no idea what was wrong with me. He offered to prescribe me antibiotics, and when I asked him some questions about options, he said, Do you want antibiotics or not? I have other people waiting for me. I was shocked. Ive never experienced anything like that, and it was quite scary realizing I would have to relay on the internet to diagnose and treat myself. My illness eventually cleared up and to do this day, I dont know what I had. I was going to leave De Fotos practice at that point, but a friend of mine, someone I had referred to DeFoto, convinced me to stay. After that I dreaded making annual physical appointments, and I would skip a year here and there. They always booked out months in advance, and I never knew if I could actually see DeFoto or not. When I tried to get an allergy prescription filled, the person on the phone would chastise me for not having had a physical every year. They didnt understand how horrible it was for me to make an appointment to see a nurse who just weighed me and took my temperature and did some blood tests. It infuriated me that I no longer had access to a doctor.I eventually had a conversation with DeFoto about this, on the phone, and he said that he was going to try to go back to doing his own physicals. In July of this year I made an appointment for a physical, and the first available was late October, which I took. I just got a call from DeFotos office informing me that they needed to reschedule that October physical. I asked what was available and they said, December 22nd. Really?! They cancel an appointment on me and try to schedule me Christmas week, a week I suspect they will cancel again? Obviously DeFoto, his staff do not value me as a patient, and I believe I could get better service at a veterinary clinic. WebMD is better than this! Im done with DeFoto and his group. Theyve turned into some horrible machine that has little to no regard for the patients. Good bye DeFoto. Youve lost your soul brother.

It saddens me to write this review as I have been a patient at this practice my entire adult life. In 1980 I was a patient of Dr. Harry David, then Dr. Peter Kraus and then Dr. Mills took over the practice. In the beginning, I was so impressed by Dr. Mills ... all the nice things you read here about him are true. Then things started to change over the years. My partner and I are in good health so we would only see him a couple of times a year. This would entail a 2 hour drive each way and planning our month around the appointment. The staff started calling to cancel my appointments because Dr. Mills was out of town. I found I would put off going in for my check ups because of my experiences with his staff and the cancellations. I got to the point where I dreaded going in there. Recently, my partner decided it was time to move forward with a hip replacement. He called the office any number of times to make an appointment but no one would ever call him back. He finally reached out to Dr. Mills directly and did get an e mail back from him. He explained he was trying to get an appointment to have a consultation/referral for a hip replacement. Once again .... no response. I do think Dr. Mills is a good Doctor and he was always kind to me. I understand he has transitioned to a different position in his business and is not seeing patients. With that said, the office, staff and organization are a direct reflection on Dr. Mills and what I have seen happening is not good. It takes a long time to build a good reputation and not long at all to loose one. Sadly, from what Ive read here today, that has already happened at this practice.

Its just not good enough, especially for the area. Even throughout Covid, I felt like I was just a number to the staff - get in and get out. Waiting room was way too crowded during Covid. Office is very cramped and needs a refresh badly. If someone is sick in there, you will be close to them. The nurse I interact with is consistently unpleasant. And the front desk staff has messed up my appointments twice. I like my doctor but the old cramped office, front desk staff, and nurse are a big turnoff. Looking for a new doctor now.

Over the past few months, I haven’t been able to get any representative on the phone without calling back multiple times and waiting on hold for minutes at a time. Today I was denied care because of a lapse in health insurance. I got a phone call today as I was getting ready to make the one hour drive round trip to my appointment. The young lady told me they ran my insurance prior to my visit and it was declined so she told me they would have to cancel my appointment.Ironically, during my last appointment I was introduced to a Patient Retention specialist asking me if I could be enrolled in a program that, when this practice started offering this service a year ago, was staffed by untrained, quickly hired personnel that kept directing me to websites and agencies that were a complete waste of time and effort and were at a 100% failure rate. Suffice to say I told him no thank you.Immediately after my cancelled appointment call, I received a phone call today from the same retention specialist wanting to enroll me again in some program the practice will gain in financial assistance by me saying yes. It has nothing to do with my health. The call was motivated by greed and possibly a quota this employee must fill each month to justify his position. I had barely hung up from the call cancelling my appointment and I was still not completely over the shock of it.I have spoken to Dr. Mills several time in the past about what I perceived to be growing pains and staff/care issues and, as nice as he is personally, just shakes his head in agreement, pats you on the head like a good boy, and sends you on his way. But, hey, would you like to buy some products from my new vitamin line of overpriced supplements? Huh?It has gotten worse. Even more so, as they continue to expand soon across the street and will have two physical locations. They are doing so at a time where patient care at this practice suffers, wait times for any service from their annoying phone tree are increasing and when you do get connected, you are treated briskly and matter of factly, and, heaven forbid there is an issue with your insurance, are told they wont be able to see you. Or leave a message and they will call you back by the end of the day, then it changed to 24 hours...but 95% of the time there is NO call back.So much so that it is chilling to realize that they run your insurance before you arrive so they know theyll get paid and hide behind that sad practice by telling you its so you dont get stuck with the bill after treatment. And their examination rooms are NOT SOUNDPROOF. I have always mentioned this. I You can hear EVERYTHING the doctor and patient are saying to each other about symptoms, personal habits, diseases, infections, diagnosis, treatments, prescriptions, etc. Nothing is private. It saddens me to see this practice become too big and too corporate with employees lacking in true proper health care and people skills. One visit, I sat waiting to get my blood drawn for over 20 minutes. I had to go out to the lobby and ask. No one knew what to do and it was finally figured out that my doctor failed to put the proper color coded card on my examination room door so no one knew I was even there. It was another 5 minutes before the nursing staff could figure out who was going to do the blood draw and how much to take.Add to this that the parking there is HORRIBLE and every minute you wait is more money you have to spend at the valet only building parking garage costing you upwards of $20 or more. No validation.Plus add the time you have to wait for one of four elevators which most of the time seem to only have one or two working. Just getting to the 8th floor can take you 7 to 10 minutes in real time from the building lobby to the doctors office. And while the pharmacy is now located on the first floor...so what? There is no curbside pick up offered, there is no short term pharmacy parking at the curb and the delivery/passenger drop off zone is always impacted with delivery trucks. No one is thinking anything through and there is obviously no master plan and certainly no training about the basics of customer and patient service or just plain good old fashioned professional office etiquette.

I feel that Dr Mills has (too) slowly transitioned his brand into what it should have been from the get go-a healthcare office focused on well being..(whatever that means..) as far as treating people who have chronic or potentially life threatening illnesses this is not an practice I would even consider as a serious medical practitioner.

Trying to schedule an appointment as a new client. If I call I’m put on hold and no one answers the phone. By email, no response. As I said, new patient - can only imagine what happens when you do become a patient.

Some have complained about wait times here, but I’ve never had an issue. They are open, communicative, friendly, easy to talk to. Love them.

Unorganized, unfriendly, and unprofessional. They do not honor their appointments, so you might as well not make one. Just go somewhere else.

Stay away from Dr. Pardo. He is extremely unprofessional and body shames people who are over-weight.
