Sweetest people, needed my birth control implant taken out and couldn’t find anyone in Chattanooga that would do it without two to three prior doctor visits/consults. I stumbled across A Step Ahead, one call and they immediately put me in contact with the health department to make an appointment to get it removed. I could not recommend them enough

A Step Ahead Chattanooga is a great organization doing great work in our community! Any woman in the Chattanooga area interested in getting long-term reversible birth control for free should call the A Step Ahead Chattanooga phone number. When you call, a volunteer (like me) will ask you some simple questions and then refer you to a clinic. Were all volunteering because we think its great that this serve is available to women in our community, so theres no need to feel shy or embarrassed about talking to the people working the phone line!

This is an amazing organization! The person I talked to on the phone was very sweet and helpful. They helped me get an appointment to have my nexplanon implant removed and get on new birth control. My insurance didn’t cover any of that so they paid for it all! They even offer Uber rides if you need help getting to your appointment. I am so thankful to have something like this in Chattanooga!

The OBGYN I was connected with for my IUD removal & insertion of a new one was probably the smoothest, most comfortable & affirming one I’ve had dealing with any gynecological procedures. Ever.The care started when I made a phone call just to see what they could even offer me in my particular situation. No exaggeration: I managed to dial an incorrect but connected facility & they swiftly put me where I needed to be & I was briefly interviewed with care & attention and then given specific details of who would contact me & what I should do.Start to finish I’m still smitten 2 years later by how brilliantly effortless, intentional, and caring everyone in every step of the process was. A Step Ahead Chattanooga saved me.Back in 2020 I lost my job due to the pandemic, which in turn meant I lost my health insurance and any access to affordable birth control. I have moderate to severe endometriosis and one of the side effects, for me personally, are large ovarian cysts. Birth control helps greatly in managing these. Not even a couple of weeks after loosing my BC did one start to grow. It was excruciating.I remembered that a co-worker of mines wife actually founded A Step Ahead and I reached out. I was able to get an appointment for insertion and a follow-up appointment completely at zero cost to me.At the follow-up appointment, which consisted of an ultrasound to see if the IUD was where it was supposed to be, I heard the tech exclaim woah! and she proceeded to show me the cyst on the screen. It was the size of a grapefruit and the doctor wanted me in surgery immediately because she feared that if it ruptured Id go into shock.Well, thanks to no longer having health insurance I had to say no. We waited a month to see if the cyst would go away on its own now that I was back on BC, and thankfully it did!If I hadnt gotten back on BC I most likely wouldve lost my ovary, or worse.So a HUGE thank you to A Step Ahead Chattanooga for saving me.

I learned about A Step Ahead in November 2018. As a mother of two daughters, I was so grateful something like this existed in our city! My oldest daughter has been on birth control pills and the shot for so many years because of the possibility of endometriosis. She missed work and school due to the severe pain she was experiencing. When I learned about the Mirena IUD, the only FDA approved IUD that helps with heavy and painful periods, I immediately recommended A Step Ahead to my daughter. She has been on it for three months now and is experiencing the great benefits that an IUD may offer some women. The women in my family have dealt with a lot of menstrual issues at a young age. I am incredibly grateful theres an organization that exists and provides these options for free! Every month my daughter is saving money by not paying for her monthly pill or the cost of feminine products and shes 99.9% protected from an unplanned pregnancy. Thank you so much for the work you do for the women in our community. We are truly grateful!

The mission of A step Ahead is to grant empowerment to women to pursue their dreams. I am glad to be a part of their endeavour of promoting freedom to women so that they go on to achieve bigger things in life. Their fully reversible birth control service for free gives women the choice to decide when they want to have a baby.

Super easy and confidential, you can choose from a number of doctors offices and decide which type of long term birth control you want. If you cant pay with insurance they will pay for you, and if insurance wont cover it fully they will pay the rest. They will even provide free transportation for you if needed. A wonderful organization helping out local women!
