I had my first child with MBC and just had my second. I have always been happy with the care I receive at MBC with yearly check-ups, pre- and post-natal visits, etc. I am especially happy with my last birth that happened there. I felt like it went as smoothly as it could have gone. The team worked well together and with my doula to make it a positive experience. I know I was in good hands with a knowledgeable and attentive midwife for this birth. She had a good vibe where I knew that she was making sure everything was going okay without being dismissive or alarmist, which is a hard balance to find in a medical provider. For context, I have found 2-3 medical providers in all of my years on this earth that fit that profile. I am appreciative for all of the care Ive received at MBC and hope to see others continuing to receive care with them. Thanks Midwife Brieana and Nurse Amanda for such a positive birth experience!

I didnt like the idea of a hospital birth because I thought it would stress me out which was the opposite of what I wanted my birth experience to be. After having a bad experience with my PCP in early pregnancy (and doing a bunch of research) I decided I wanted to do a birth center instead of the traditional route.I successfully had my first baby at MBC Minneapolis and I absolutely LOVED my experience from the time I transferred my care at 13 weeks, to my last appointment postpartum. Their values and practices of patient care lined up much more with what I wanted my for my birth. I felt safe, heard, and supported the entire time. I will absolutely be returning for all of my future children! Also, WAY cheaper than the hospital for me. I didnt even hit my $4,000 deducible for the year!

Giving birth is hard itself, Minnesota birth center have amazing team. MBC staff made my husband and I safely, security and confidence that everything is gonna be okay. I have amazing daughter who is currently about to be two and half years old and Minnesota birth center staff checked on me often. I for sure recommend for anyone who is willing, doesn’t have medical complications or can do natural birth. Also do what is best for you and your children and your family.

What a redemptive experience for our 2nd birth. Our first was a hospital birth and there are many things I wish had looked differently. Switching care to the MN birth center midway through my 2nd pregnancy was the best decision for our family. I felt so cared for and listened to. I felt baby and me were both monitored adequately but also encouraged to trust my body. Only regret not having my first born at the birth center!

The Minnesota Birth Center is truly the best.I have now used the birth center through four pregnancies and three births, which were all very different situations with different needs. Each time I was 100% confident every step of the way that my babies and I were in good hands with experienced, knowledgeable midwives who prioritized our health and safety as well as my values and desires for the birth. With each birth Im able to look back and feel good about the process and experience, knowing that we got the best possible care and had the best possible outcomes, all in a gentle, positive, empowering environment. I could not be more grateful to the MBC team for their role in bringing my kids into this world!

Just had my 5th baby with the Minnesota Birth Center! I had my first 3 with MBC but my 4th was with an OB due to insurance reasons. Never again with an OB! The midwives are so empowering, yet thorough. We opted to switch insurance amd pay more out of pocket to deliver baby #5 at the birth center. Not to mention the longer drive! It is worth every penny to have a peace of mind about your labor and delivery experience, we love the MN birth Center and we need more of them in the northern suburbs! I would also like to add that I am a previous labor and delivery nurse and the staff here were all very competent!

Had my first OB appointment last week transferred from hospital care. Walking into the birth center was like a breath of fresh air. As an advanced practice nurse myself it was so nice to have open supportive conversations. Instead of being aggressively told what I wanted at my hospital visits. I loved the midwife I saw Brittany Steven, seriously loved her! She printed out medical informative articles and listened to me as I processed decisions. I couldn’t recommend the birth center more. They always ask for permission before taking your blood pressure or before performing any care. I can’t wait for my next appointment. What a delightful model of care. Finally at 28 weeks I am able to feel empowered and supported on this pregnancy journey!

I have had 2 wonderful births under MBCs care and will continue my well-woman care with them. The team has always been informative with evidence based knowledge, remained respectful of my wishes from there, and has helpful and considerate birth and support staff. My births both had mild complications but were handled so well by the team I was hardly aware. The experience was calm (relatively!), respectful and beautiful. I would hands down recommend them for anyone considering a midwife birth!

I have birthed both of my babies at The Minnesota Birth Center and my husband and I can’t stop saying how much we loved our experience there. The prenatal, birthing and postpartum care was extremely holistic, giving me many options as a birthing mother while also following a research based model of care. Every time I went in for a visit all the midwives and scheduling coordinators knew my name when I walked in the door. I always felt like I was walking into my home. Thank you for the wonderful care at MBC! If I was planning on a third (which I am not), I would hands down go back!

My husband and I cant say enough good things! We have two children and both were born under the care of MBC midwives at the Minneapolis location. I also get my womanly well visits there. The atmosphere is calm and feels like home. The midwives, nurses and staff are friendly, understanding and competent. They honor a mothers intrinsic ability to labor and birth and also offer loving support when requested/needed. After birth, they bring you congratulatory homemade bread and honey, a huge hit! With our first child, we needed to transfer to Abbott across the street and they still provided the same exceptional care while there. MBC is an amazing community and I am beyond grateful to receive care there.

I recently gave birth to my first baby at the Minnesota Birth Center. From prenatal care all the way to postpartum and lactation, MBC was phenomenal. They made me feel at home the moment I walked in the door. The staff went above and beyond to give me the support I needed. When I faced several complications during pregnancy, they offered information and experience, while still letting me make my own choices. My birth experience was empowering and magical, and I couldn’t have done it without MBC staff. I would hands down recommend MBC to any expecting mamas out there.

Poor experience for me from the beginning. When we did the orientation at the end of May, it was delayed and the lady giving the presentation was having a lot of technical issues. Not really a big deal. When we finally had a confirmed pregnancy, I had to call multiple times to get a hold of someone to make an appointment. My first appointment via phone was delayed and I was told I would be called back in 20 mins and didnt actually get a call until hours later.I continued with this process because I really wanted a birth center experience even though I was getting nervous about whether they would be available to me fully, I came in for my first appointment. Everything seemed fine until the midwife got to my weight. I am a large woman, but per their weight requirements in May 2023, I was well under their BMI limit. Her entire demeanor changed at this point and she was unresponsive to my husbands questions. After this, she looked for my babys heartbeart for a very limited amount of time and said cant really see it at this point in the pregnancy. This was after my expressing nervousness that things are going okay. This is my first pregnancy and I didnt know what to expect.Lastly, in this appointment she asked if wed been reading their pregnancy manual. I let her know we werent aware of it and my husband confirmed the same, and we nicely asked how we could get access to it. She snapped back at us that we did receive it, its standard procedure, and never elaborated on how we could get it. I had to call the front desk for the info later. We talked about my hypothyroidism and she made it clear how important it was to have it tested this appointment. When my blood work was sent off, because Im fat I guess, she wanted an extremely early gestational diabetes test. I made arrangements to come in for it. Come to find out they never tested my TSH but ran an early GD test that I never even took. Luckily my primary doctor tested my TSH later and things were fine, but very disappointing in the mishandling. When the blood work for GD came in, the nurse leaving a voicemail chastised me because I didnt actually drink their drink, like Im the one who ran the wrong blood test. Seriously.Later in the week, VERY late at night, the same midwife called to kick me out of the birth center because my BMI is over their limit. I expressed confusion because I checked the documents I had from the May 2023 orientation, before I signed up, and met all their requirements. I never would have signed up for their center knowing my BMI was too high. Of course, she responds saying the guidelines have always been the same, they have never ever changed and I must not be reading it properly and that I was told the requirements and must have lied. I have both documents now, so no! They changed in July 2023!!!! How offensive. I would be fine if they admitted things changed and couldnt take the risk on and would have acknowledged this. I am a reasonable person and can and did easily find care elsewhere with little hassle.I wrote to complain to their management after this. They confirmed that the information I had was correct and apologized for my experience and that the policy did change. I was told a manager would call me. Nobody ever did. Its a blessing in disguise that I will not be receiving care there going forward, but I am extremely disappointed in this whole situation. They could have put my baby at risk.My new midwife at my new center asked if I had reading materials and if not, did I want some? When I said no, she ran off to get them for me. Its not that hard to be nice and not say I do/do not have something. I know what information I have had access to. I also have a parent and dont need to be chastised by other adults like Im an idiot OR making things up. Im also always nice to people giving me care, ask kind questions, etc. Lastly at my new doctor, I was trying to pull up my records. They deleted my health account without my knowledge!! I should be able to access that still. This whole experience was absolutely bizarre.

The process of going through pregnancy and birth for the first time is daunting, but our experience at the Minnesota Birth Center could not have been better. From the first consultation to the final appointment, the staff is kind, consistent, respectful, and knowledgeable. I actually looked forward to checkups, knowing that the MBC created a safe space to ask questions and communicate concerns. I especially appreciated the focus on avoiding interventions and following the birth process as naturally as possible. I never felt as though I was risking the health of my baby or myself. Our labor and birth experience in particular is something that we look back fondly on, which might not always be the case for the first time! The care team was so fluid and compassionate in helping us bring our baby into the world. I felt well cared for at all times, even through the toughest moments. I would whole-heartedly recommend the MBC for anyone seeking a low-intervention, positive birth experience centered around community!

We love the Minnesota Birth Center! When I was pregnant with my first, I did not want to be laboring and giving birth in a hospital so we did some research and found MBC. I am so thankful that I did. They have an awesome staff and such a beautiful, peaceful building. We have had both of our kids at MBC, one in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul. Both times went so much better than I could have expected. The nurses and midwives gave us our privacy knowing that we wanted to do a lot of the birthing by ourselves as a couple. And when there would be a tough contraction or going through a transition, they would step in and encourage you through it at the perfect moment. I cant speak enough to how much I love the herbal bath and fresh homemade bread that you get to experience after birth - such a great way to celebrate a new babe. I am so thankful for a place that allows you to have the birth you envision, a team that supports you in the decisions you make and will continue supporting you after birth with follow up meetings in a group or with a nurse and then the continuation of well women care. Thank you Minnesota Birth Center!

I have given birth twice at the Minnesota Birth Center, Minneapolis, and cant imagine giving birth anywhere else. The care the midwives provided before, during and after my births is beyond incredible. They take time to get to know you and your preferences and it is obvious they care deeply and passionately about their work and about all the women and babies who entrust their care to them. During both my births, the midwives and nurses knew just what to do to support me and my husband, both letting my body do its thing on its own, but also giving helpful suggestions to move things along. I cant say enough good things about MBC and highly recommend them!

There are so many things I can say about our experience at the Minnesota Birth center. First and foremost, from the beginning of our prenatal care to the day my son was born we felt cared for. All of the midwives and all of their unique personalities made my family and I felt cared for beyond words. Whenever I needed answers, advice, reassurance, the team at MBC was there. From the coordinators to the nurses to the midwives and Dr Kalvin, we are grateful for each and every one of you. You listened to my needs as well as my families and encouraged my holistic approach to birthing my beautiful son.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our experience a memorable one. I highly recommend MBC to anyone and everyone that asks me about the recent birth of my second baby. Having now experienced both a hospital-based and birth center labor/delivery, I can say that MBC offers uniquely warm, personal and professional care to its clients. I really enjoyed my prenatal care, meeting with several midwives over the course of many appointments. The facility is beautiful and comforting, which is important when considering the atmosphere in which you want to give birth. Natural birth is hard but rewarding, and the team of nurses and midwives provided wonderful support through the whole process.

I cant say enough good things about the Minnesota Birth Center! They cared for us through pregnancy and the delivery of our son last year, and our experience with them was just perfect. All the midwives are so wonderful and professional and spend so much time with you. This was my first pregnancy, so I really appreciated how prepared and confident they made me feel through everything :). When I went into labor, Martha and Kaitlin were incredible and supportive, and there wasnt a moment when I felt unsafe or insecure. And the mom+baby herbal bath and homemade bread they provided after birth were such a nice touch on top of an already wonderful experience. If we hadnt moved away we would be having all of our babies here! I really dont think theres anywhere better.

Our experience with the Minnesota Birth Center is something my husband and I will cherish forever. As a first time mother, I felt respected and well-informed. The atmosphere is ideal - comforting, inviting, and friendly. The staff and midwives are fantastic and I was confident my birth would be attended by someone I could trust. We were lucky to have found a wonderful doula through MBCs doula internship program - highly recommend considering this route and attending the doula speed-dating if you have the opportunity! When the day came for us to welcome our son into the world, our birth team was more than we could have hoped for. Any fear or nervousness was replaced with support and comfort. Post-birth I also worked with a lactation consultant, which was helpful and informative. It was great to be able to work with the same staff and in the same place I was already so comfortable with. I cant say enough good things about the MBC. We are so thankful they were there to guide us through the most transformative year of our lives.

Respectful, compassionate, evidence-based, mom and baby friendly, exceptional care. I wish I had given this place a try with my first. Having given birth at the hospital and at the birth center, I felt safer and more attended to at the birth center than I ever did at the hospital, and the after care is much better too. Every single midwife I saw is smart, compassionate and worthy of your trust. Planning to go back for my “well woman “ visits too.

I cant praise the Birth Center enough. We had our daughter there last year and had a truly wonderful experience from day one, right up to the birth. I had a midwife-led birth with my first child and wanted that same care with our second, but there are no midwives in my region. The midwives at the Birth Center were kind enough to take baby and me under their care after changing mind about a hospital birth and they saw us through to delivery. The environment during labour and delivery was just right - calm, quiet, safe and respectful. The midwives there provide confident and knowledgable care and within steps of a top notch medical facility.

I was always impressed with how compassionate, holistic, and evidence-based the care I received at MBC while expecting my son. I always felt at home for visits there and that my concerns were taken seriously. I started going to the birth center later in my pregnancy (around 20 weeks), and I had been loving it until my 37 week visit today. I arrived at my appt and met with a midwife I have never seen before. Firstly she remarked at how I, “look a hot mess.” Then later in the visit she made a remark about how it, “seems like I have too much on my plate.” I don’t know what made me “seem” like this but I felt like I was being taunted or even undermined by her. Then I was reminded of the take home class they offer, which I was being told now is mandatory but I initially signed up for the sake of my partner because this is his first kid, and my second kid. I reminded her this is my second and that I am aware of the after birth care of a newborn at home. Yet she still presumed it necessary for me. Was kind of insulted by this, too. After my appt. the receptionist had a snarky attitude with me about filling out info for my partner to apply for the birth certificate, she said “oh well look at you getting on top of things.” I called the receptionist after my appt to double check on the take home class they offer this week and was again faced with a snarky attitude and her laughing at my question. I am a younger mom, and I do act very casual and easy going with the staff but I feel like I’m being treated as some little joke and it makes me not want to birth here. It’s late in my pregnancy and I’m unsure what to do. I want the benefits and security of the birthing center but if I receive this same vibe from the staff while I’m in labor I might go ballistic.
