If I was only reviewing Dr. Theresa Hilgers, this review would be 4 stars, but unfortunately my experiences here were not the positive ones I had hoped for.We can start with the ultrasound techs. The rooms are very comfortable and private and 2 techs I had were very good, unfortunately the third and final tech I had started “diagnosing” me on the table, incorrectly at that, until she had me so worked up I thought I was going to burst into tears. My husband finally told her to please finish up and leave the room. After ultrasound, I went to the clinic, where the rudest, coldest group of women were sitting at the front desk. No one greeted us, and I think we stood there for 5 minutes before they stopped talking long enough to throw a clipboard at me. In my other 3 experiences in the office, it was exactly the same, horrific. The horrors didn’t end there. I then met probably the most inept group of nurses I’ve ever been around. During one blood draw, my blood literally was squirted across the room. Dr. Hilgers was kind and a very high quality surgeon. If not for her, I don’t know what we would have done. As a patient, no one answers your questions and you are basically told asking questions makes you a nuisance to their day. I asked a question 6 months ago and again 4 months ago that I’ve never received an answer to. The number of things they won’t even try to bill to insurance is astronomical. There is no online patient portal which is frustrating as they give you no follow up information unless you beg for it. I think their purpose and vision is good, but the execution is just sad.

My husband and I have seen Dr. Teresa Hilgers for close to 3 years now. I previously went to a reproductive endocrinologist at Methodist after trying to conceive for one year. That was in 2021. I was told that my lab work was normal, my saline sonogram came back okay, and was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I was then recommended to begin IUI/IVF treatment classes. For my husband and I, this did not sit well with us.So we came to Dr. Hilgers for a second opinion. She sat with my husband and I for an hour, and explained what she wanted to do for next steps. I felt seen, understood, and heard. Hilgers proceeded to do an exploratory surgery where she found 35 spots of endometriosis. I was then taken in for two mores surgeries to remove endometriosis and wrap organs in protective gortex for healing purposes. The last surgery I had, a giant abscess was found that took 12 liters of fluid to drain, and I was hospitalized for 8 days. This was some of the toughest days of my infertility journey. Dr. Hilgers had amazing bedside manner. She encouraged me with empathy and understanding all the way throughout my recovery.I have also been seen by Pope Paul for chronic vaginal infections for over a year. Although they have not been able to help with prevention of these infections, I have seen a functional medicine doctor which has helped. We loved the Creighton Model Charting classes, and did not feel like it was a money grab at all. The classes helped us take matters into our own hands for prevention and achieving pregnancy. There is a purpose for charting when it comes to seeing your doctor. The charting is reviewed by your doctor, and helps them make changes to your treatment plan accordingly. Charting helps them see a pattern of cervical mucus, symptoms of infection, pre menstrual bleeding, etc. This helped Dr. Hilgers find indicators of endometriosis, symptoms of cysts, and identify when clomid was not working for me. If you have self discipline, and diligently work on the charting, it pays off. We prefer a doctor and clinic that believe life begins at the moment of conception. And if you’re not trying to prevent, you are trying to conceive. That is exactly what they teach.Pope Paul can be a little disorganized with their paperwork, scheduling, and keeping your medical information in tact with correct clients. Dr. Hilgers has also become quite the popular person lately, and I feel like my appointments are shorter.Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons. Dr. Hilgers and the nurses at Pope Paul have been a reflection of Jesus and healing.I am now 16 weeks pregnant with our miracle baby, and I cant wait for the whole staff to meet this little one.

I do not recommend. When you first come in, they make you learn Creighton method, and they make you do 8 follow ups to make sure you learn it. This training is not done by medical professionals, and you pay for each training session - seemed to us like an easy money grab. They also make you do a few surveys on how your communication/respect is with your significant other and then discuss it with you - again, not done by medical professionals or licensed therapists or counselors. Our trainer was rude and said “no one’s forcing you to be here” when we expressed some of our concerns. In reality, Paul VI was forcing us to be there. The staff was also very disorganized and made mistakes with scheduling. When we finally saw the doctor, her bedside manner was lacking as she was dismissive of our pain and problems, including our financial concerns (she seemed to roll her eyes when we said we couldn’t afford something). She also recommended surgery on the first meeting without even medically evaluating us and with no reason beyond some statistic to believe it was necessary.Seemed like everyone here had something to prove. Both our trainer and the doctor had a sort of “just believe us because we’re right and if you have concerns or disagree, you’re ignorant” attitude. Any hesitation on our part to go along with everything brought eye rolls and sighs.I had no trust in anything I was being told, and we later discovered that the surgery the doctor recommended was absolutely unnecessary, saving us thousands. If you’re looking for pro-life or Catholic OB/GYNs, I highly recommend Googling Catholic OB/GYNs outside of Paul VI. They can be hard to find so if you have to go to Paul VI, please do be cautious and consider getting a second opinion, and don’t let them turn you into their cash cow.

Dr. Theresa refused to provide hysterectomy because “what if I change my mind about having children.” She even looked at my husband and said what if your husband changes his mind—and my husband said it’s her body, what does it matter if I changed my mind?! Provider’s bedside manner was horrific. I tried explaining that I didn’t think endometriosis was only one thing causing my severe pain.I brought several peer reviewed white papers to her and got 2 unbiased second opinions that both agreed with me. She was the one that suggested I get another opinion so we could discuss options and come to a compromise on what she would do for surgery and said she would consider the other opinion and read the papers I brought. I clarified and confirmed with her twice. But, at the follow up appt, she said she absolutely didn’t tell me to do that at all and she wouldn’t read the white papers and that I was the one at fault trying to force her do something that she didn’t want to do. She tried to gaslight me and make me feel like I was the crazy one and that I misremembered—even though I had a witness. But in the same breath “love-bombs” me and says she’s so sorry that I’ve had such bad providers that didn’t believe I was in pain—but then she wouldn’t help me either.Went to one of the second opinion clinics and had hysterectomy and endometriosis excision surgery. Pathology showed not only was I right in my suspected prognosis of adenomyosis, it was actually much worse than I thought. It was ABSOLUTELY medically necessary to have a hysterectomy. This clinic scams you by forcing every single person to learn and follow their charting model—even if your reason for seeing them isn’t fertility—and have several follow ups with their instructors for a pointless meeting—which is of course out of pocket and not covered by insurance. And if you don’t bring your husband to said appts, they shame you.The office hasn’t been updated since 1989 and some of their equipment is quite literally falling apart. The waiting room looks like a church, not a medical office. It is absolutely horrific that they care more about the hypothetical unborn fetus’ rights than a woman’s rights to a better quality of life by getting necessary surgery. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone for any reason other than fertility.

Was happy to finally get a diagnoses for endometriosis but the entire process was not to be desired. The nurses have horrible bedside manners. They referred me right away to do the Creighton model charting - felt like a money grab the whole time. After doing my laparoscopic surgery they told me I would have to come in for two more surgeries and put 3,000 down for the surgery. I asked about a payment plan option and they didnt have one available. Oh, and they didnt have a CD available to show me the surgery when I went in to discuss it with Dr. Behrens. Was told they would send it to me through mail and still havent received anything. Reached out again today and they have told me I have to, You will need to request your CD through our medical records. There is a release form on our website. Website is not user friendly either, was hoping for a form to be sent to my email.Every few weeks I would receive an email or call from billing/front desk about getting scheduled for surgery - although I told them I would be in touch if I decided to go through with it.dont recommend.Update: got pictures in the mail but no video as promised.

After I was diagnosed by my Ob/GYN with unexplained infertility, Dr. Behrens at Saint Paul correctly suspected and excised extensive endometriosis, and I got pregnant quickly afterwards. I really appreciated their focus on finding and treating the root cause of our secondary infertility.

I did not have a good experience at this clinic! I saw the nurse practitioner to discuss why I’m having recurrent miscarriages. She told me she can’t treat me because I wasn’t married?? She referred me to take a class to track my periods and meet with an instructor for a month, it just seemed very funny to me that I waned to see a doctor not a newly graduate instructor making their money from my pocket 😂. I do not recommend this place even tho it accepts Medicaid for some parts like for wasting your time.

Was contacted by a third party from out of state on behalf of this organization. They divulged my private & protected health information to said party without my consent. Said party threatened me, cursed at me, and was harassing in general while I was already experiencing a very difficult pregnancy. My unborn child died as a result and I almost did; also. All at the behest of this establishment.

Any woman would love this place but especially those needing help achieving pregnancy or wanting to avoid pregnancy in a wholistic and safe and natural way. St. Pope Paul IV Institute is all about female empowerment because knowledge is power! Getting to know and understand your body and your fertility will lead you to greater understanding of your self. This will further lead to happier and healthier marriages. Dont waste your time with OB/GYNs who think the pill is the answer to everything. This place will determine the cause of your issues and treat them, not just lessen the severity of your symptoms. Have faith and trust these doctors. Dr. Teresa Hilgers changed my daughters life in a most magnificent way!

Dr Hilgers is truly a gift from God. My wife and I have a beautiful teenage daughter that is here because of the miraculous work of this blessed man. Long story short, almost 20 years ago we decided to start our family and went through hell over a 5 year period trying to get answers on her infertility. She endured numerous botched surgeries to supposedly correct endometriosis, adhesions, and other ailments. And with every step along the way we were told to just go right to IVF instead of trying to figure out the root cause of the problem. So in 2003 we stumbled upon what was the Pope Paul VI Institute at the time, and over nearly a 12-month period she had numerous blood draws and hormone tests, and waiting, and two surgeries, and hormone treatment, and more waiting, and trying, until we were finally able to conceive. Dr Hilgers had to fix damage done by prior botched surgeries and he was able to open a blocked Fallopian tube, remove endometriosis, fibroids, and adhesions, and also address a misdiagnosed hormonal condition. She had to endure two surgeries 8 weeks apart, 1500 miles from home, but it paid off a little over a year later when our daughter was born, naturally. No IVF, no horrible fertility drugs, no ignoring the problems and making her physical and emotional health worse. Dr Hilgers did what countless other doctors said would not happen. This man and his institute are true blessings and they showed kindness, compassion, and perseverance that is hard to find in this world. We thank God often for being blessed with the Saint Paul VI Institute.

I have had 3 surgeries for endometriosis. My treatment at Pope Paul VI Institute (2013) was amazing. Perhaps because they timed the surgery to be the optimal phase in the menstrual cycle but also because of great skill, I recovered much faster and had only 2 incisions instead of four. The healing experience surpassed the Mayo Clinic and my local care in Indiana because they were able to treat my PMDD and thyroid issues as well in ways that are not available elsewhere. The treatments I have received are also improving my digestion and energy levels. I believe I will finally have relief based on the positive outcomes so far.

Our experience with PPVI has been great! We have learned so much about my reproductive health, and have found several medical conditions that affect my fertility, while other doctors dismissed my concerns for years. They were amazing when it came to my surgery. And now, after 9.5 years of trying to get pregnant, we actually have some hope and a chance that it is possible!
