Advocate for yourself if you dont want surgery!!! I told Dr. Portera I wasnt comfortable with surgery and I was told there are NO other options for my issue, even though other options were listed in the information packet he gave me. Even if the other options werent right for me, I would have liked to have been told about them so I could have made an informed decision. I went to another urogynecologist in the area this morning who told me theres no reason I cant try non-surgical options, and whose nurse told me they have many patients who first saw Dr. Portera before coming to them because they were also pushed for surgery when they didnt want it.Im sure hes a great doctor for some, but I feel hes uninformed about all treatment options for minor issues like mine.
